I don't even know how this school is still open. Allison Seymour is the worst principal. She is rude, does not respond respectfully to parent concerns, and has taken an already poor-performing school lower in their performance. Maryland state report card rates them as a 1. She cares more about her ego than providing students with the necessary resources to succeed. Resources for students with learning disabilities are a joke and nonexistent. They find it acceptable and see no issues with graduating students who test at a 3rd-grade level. Total incompetence.

It's a shame. There are many good things going on with Lansdowne HS. I had two kids graduate from here. They enjoyed many of the extracurricular opportunities - being in the excellent choir, appearing in the fabulous plays the school puts on every year, and participating in a program run with the Hippodrome theater. They had some very good, dedicated teachers. Both of my kids adored the televideo class, and all the projects they got to do. They were in GT classes, took some AP classes, and did dual enrollment with CCBC while still in school.

On a down note, the atmosphere at the school can be a problem. There are fights, drop-outs, and a seedy neighborhood outside.

The physical building is a disgrace, and Baltimore county school board should be raked over coals for allowing it to fall into such disrepair. It has no air conditioning, and as the summers get hotter and longer, this becomes a dangerous situation. It is two stories, but has no elevator for disabled students. They found asbestos in supply closets. The water fountains break and run rusty. The auditorium literally floods a bit when it rains, and mice run around the floor during performances. I believe the last major renovation to the building was done in 1973. So no, sadly, I would not recommend this school to anyone.

All my teacher's are helpful and teach well in the class. Some of the classes, like televideo and photography, have up to date appliances and are very informative classes. The students here all mind their own business and I have seen little to no bullying. I have seen more fights and arguing in my former middle and elementary schools. Overall I am quite proud to be in this school!

Lansdowne High School, I would like to praise the Teachers and Staff who work with the Academy of Finance Students. My office has had the privilege of hosting some of their students over the past 4 years and I find them to be intelligent, polite and genuine young people. Four of my own family members, in the last 10 years have graduated from Lansdowne. They are all doing very well in the this world we live in. I believe that parent need to step up and take responsibility for their children's education, become involved in school activities etc. and stop blaming the system.

I have had three children graduate and one more to go. All of my kids excelled in Lansdowne! They all play/played sports, are very active on committees. We had one issue with my youngest being "jumped" by some other kids (not on property, but by LHS students) and LHS handled it very professionally and proficiently. I receive email updates and communication from teachers often. I'm tired of hearing the bad things about this school. As parents, get involved. Your child's success depends first on his home life. And, by working together with teachers, your child can definitely succeed.
