It was my first year at this school last year and it’s about to be my second year here UNFORTUNATELY. This school is out of control. The bathrooms are always dirty, there are constant fights everyday, lots of bullying and a bunch of fake people. An experience I had was every day when I went into school people would take my food from my lunch. People would take my lunch box and open it without my permission. Some people wouldn’t take no for an answer. It happened every day that I just got so used to it but it was still annoying. I honestly questioned if I was being bullied. Now thinking about it I’m pretty sure I was getting bullied. Another HUGE thing at this school is racism. People will call you names and racist slurs. Teachers also don’t do much about that. Even when you’re just minding your business people still find a way to pick on you. People at this school will especially be racist to Asians, Hispanics and white people. I will say there are a few nice people here but it’s very difficult to find that at this school. I would not recommend this school.

School overall is dirty and decrepit. Several teachers have a power struggle with kids and I had a terrible bullying problem there and physical problems and harassment. Lowkey chill school other than that so yeah.

This school is very unorganized. The bathrooms are absolutely repulsive they are always filthy, and the heat and air conditioning never work and it’s always uncomfortably hot or freezing and it’s like this for more than the entire school year. The 8th grade counselor is very unprofessional she always hounds students for electronics but she walks around in the cafeteria during her lunch duty with her phone in her hand and she constantly staring at it. She doesn’t look at emails and she doesn’t respond. She’s also does her cafeteria duties very poorly durning the thanksgiving lunch my friends and I were patiently waiting in the lunch line when a bunch of boys came and pushed us so far back from them play fighting we were pushed almost in the kitchen and she did not address them at all and they kept pushing us so My friends and I decided to go to a different lunch line. Keep in mind that we were already waiting in that first line for over ten minutes so when we finally got our lunch from the second lunch line we only had five minutes of lunch left so when we all finally sat down she came to our table with a trash can and we explained to her what happened and she said we have to throw our food away our barely touched food and after that she made us stay behind to clean up messes on tables my friend and I specifically didn’t create because we were in the lunch lines for the entire lunch period and she made us late to our classes. And another thing that’s a problem is girls aren’t allowed to have purses/bags during gym and we are supposed to lock them in our locker which I understand why we can’t have purses but why do the gym teachers lock the locker room when gym class starts and now we can’t have access to our purses/bags during gym throughout class especially as girls who need to access their feminine hygiene products during class if the door to the locker room is locked it’s inconvenient for girls.

This school is ok if you just stay out of drama and do your work and theirs a lot of drama and fights btw. Honestly if your a parent I wouldn't recommend this school because theres a lot of students encouraging other students to not care about your grades and conflicts
that happen here also staff is not that bad it's just students being rude that causes them yelling at them. Magnet programs are nice especially stem. (Sorry if I explained this a bit confusing)

I loved this school! The teachers are very nice and supportive, and the school is big and provides both stairs and ramps for the children with disabilities. I know some people don't like this school at all, but I think I had a different experience from them. I was a magnet student in all GT/AA courses and the environment was pretty good, classes were around 10-30 students (depending on level.) The only issue I had with it was the students. Some students chose to be disrespectful and violent towards others, but if your child avoids these people, then they will have a great time here. Currently, the school is slightly unorganized due to one of the teachers who ran 8th grade history, finance, and magnet programs passed away (we miss you Mrs. St. Pierre!) But many teachers are working incredibly hard to prepare these students for the history MCAP test and high school.

I used to attend this school and let me tell you: DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO THIS SCHOOL. I left without learning anything and with trauma and anxiety. In my experience, do not send your child to this school. The bathrooms are obscenely filthy and generally inappropriate, the students are terrible, and neither the councilors nor the teachers do anything about it. The programs are not all that; if possible, send your child to a better school. The administration appears to not care, as they have done nothing to fix these issues despite numerous complaints, and these schools are not safe. The school did nothing about the boy who was sexually harassing the girls. He was suspended for only five days for inappropriately touching a girl and has yet to be expelled. The administrators promised to take action but never followed up. This lack of response from the administration is concerning, as it gives students the message that this kind of behavior is tolerated and accepted.

Posted: April 12, 2018

Bullying is at a all time high here. It’s not handled head on. They have no control here

Posted: April 12, 2018

Everything has been horrible, from the bullying to the teachers and there’s no communication at all

Posted: April 12, 2018

No real homework is given at all

Posted: April 12, 2018

The teachers are very rude and don’t want to work with the parents that are involved

Posted: April 12, 2018

The total opposite. It creates a very stressful setting not made for teaching

This school has no control over the students. My son is a A B Honor roll student and this had been a complete downgrade for him. Please re-evaluate this school. A 5 score is pushing it.

My daughter is her second year at this school and both years has had to deal with bullying. This year 2017-2018 school year has been the worst. A"child" who is in a gradde under her and who admitted to not even knowing her attacked my child. The reason supposedly was my child rolled her eyes. I did say to my daughter if she rolled her eyes she needs to stop, don't even look her way. This child has been into 7 fights before attacking my daughter. The school also thought that 1 school week in school suspension was good enough punishment maybe it would be if there weren't prior fights and ridiculous reasoning to attack someone. Some children the attack my daughter tried walking away 3 times than the girl hit my daughter than pushed her dragged her by her hair across the floor where are all the teachers when this was happening. Why did it take so long to get to the incident. Because they aren't doing their jobs protecting my daughter from violent people. Endangering the welfare of a minor. This girl is han told the vice principal that my daughter was talking about her they than took both children into the office with letting me know into the office and asked my daughter if and what she was saying ( by the way my daughter said she hasn't said anything because she was afraid to) the same child pit on the internet that she was going to attack her again. But nothing was done about that so they were pretty much punishing my daughter and rewarding this other child. Now this child has had her friends go up to my daughters friends and threatening them if they stay friends with her yet the school has done nothing because i made an anonymously called the Monday after this happened and asked them to look into it yet no one has been asked anything about this incident I can't believe this school the decision they have made and the terror they are putting my child trough everyday this child maybe this can be changed and possibly be dealt with correctly soon but I don't think so. If your a child that attacks people and fights more than getting her education. The administration is a joke at this school they don't help the kids that are good they give the bad kids maybe if they actually gave this child consequences they make a difference in her behavior.

Send your kids elsewhere, if at all possible.

This school has developed a thuggish student body where bullying and harassment are tolerated. The administration isn't controlling the students and is not fostering a positive environment for learning. The culture of the school is poor and that's attributable to the leadership. Things are particular bad at change of classes and at lunch.

I feel bad for the good kids who are stuck here. A lot of these kids went to good elementary schools like Hampton or Cromwell Valley and are thrown to the wolves here. Most of those kids end up going to one of the local private or Catholic schools for grades 6, 7, and 8 to avoid this place.

The staff members don't promote a healthy environment. I didn't care for the way the staff talked to me. One teacher uses fear as a educational tool. My child was in tears one night, his math homework ran long leaving very little time for other subjects. He said the teacher was going to yell at him. He was so upset he begged me not to say anything, believed it would make the teacher mad at him. There were altercations with 3 other students in two different classes with the teachers in the room and I was never told. While sitting at a table one boy came up behind him and punched him twice, and my son was suspended. This is when my child tells me about the previous issues. I asked the principal to find out why nothing was done that could have stopped the esculation of this violence. When I met with the principal he said one of the teachers knows how to handle these issues and does a good job. Yet no one knew and nothing was done after repeated attacks. I was told that if my son had swung back at the other child even in self defense and hit the teacher he would have been expelled from Baltimore County Schools. I pulled him out of LRTA 43 days into the school year. It was appalling, disgraceful and they should be ashamed of their selves. These poor children are going to be statistics. They will not reach their full potential in an environment that promotes negativity and fear from both students and staff. I just see how the world is with everyone going against each other, this is a very influential time in our children's lives. We need to do better, we need to be better.

My child in in GT and in magnet program. While some kids on regular classes have some attutide, other kids keep thier mind straight. Great teachers in all grade levels. If kid wants to have good grades- he/she can do it.

Posted: January 11, 2016

In 2014 my daughters both started their experience at LRTA in the middle of the school year because we moved from the county. After a week at the school my daughters liked it. Once incident occurred with a male student off the bus and I contacted the school. Mrs. Johnson quickly responded and handled the situation. I haven't had a issue since. The Art teacher saw the talent in my daughter and advocated for her to be in GT Art for the next school year even though the cut off had passed. My daughter who struggled with math for many years grew to a B average because her teacher took the time to invest in her. Both of my daughters have had great experiences at LRTA. Both are in classes that challenge them. The music program is awesome. There is no perfect school, they all have their issues with student's, parent's and teacher's. I love LRTA and I can't wait for my son to arrive.

All schools have some issues, but this school doesn't get the credit it deserves for the positive things. Most people focus on the few negative things. Loch Raven Academy is a great school with many positive things going on. If you want to see some of the positive things going on follow them on twitter. They are @LochRavenAcad.

We were optimistic about this school when we first started. Seeing what happens even in the GT program, where students are unruly and teachers spend more time disciplining than educating, we have had to change our assessment. Bullying and theft are a problem in the school. The school suffers from a lack of parent and student concern and involvement, which teachers and the administration seem to be fighting with little to no success.

Posted: September 16, 2014

This school is great. The community tends to have a perception of the school that is based on the past. The magnet programs are awesome and so are the teachers and the leadership.

My daughter attends this school and loves it. There are bully issues but she has not faced any herself. I'm not sure that academically the school is maintaining the skill level of students entering the school over time. I looked at the test scores and see an interesting trend that students in 6th grade were doing well and by the time they get to the 8th grade they are doing worse in terms of percent proficient. Be careful how you view rising test scores. Compare 2012 sixth grade proficiency to their subsequent proficiency in 2013 7th grade. They are losing ground. Sixth grade is still a benefit from elementary. Something is amiss and I am concerned my daughter may lose what was gained in elementary if the instruction is not preparing the students. My daughter has complained that some teachers are not effective. They don't make sure students understand. It's hard to get help from the same person who is confusing you. I have to teach my child at home sometimes what teachers are not making clear. This school could be great if parents advocate for their students.

Loch Raven Tech Academy is a good school that could be great. However, there is a BIG problem with bullying and the administration tends to ignore the problem and good students suffer. Some have even transfered out!

Posted: January 20, 2014

My son is currently in 8th grade. It is well managed and challenge the kids to excel. The growth in test scores is fantastic and the kids are happy.

I went here and I loved it..... except for it's long hallways lol. Some teachers were great. I miss it.

Posted: November 4, 2012

This my daughter's first year here and so far so good. I really like that they encourage the children to come back and get their grades changes if they aren't good. They offer every opportunity for them to get higher grade. Much different from when I went to school.
