Sad thing is I went to the school when I was younger. The school has went way down the drain from the unprofessionalism of the teachers and the principal to other staff, they do a terrible job of consistency and following through when it comes not to mention the amount of car accidents that happened due to failure of regulator traffic, the school seems to target parents who brings up concerns for the principal to be a doctor. She sure acts like she has an associates or GED. She's unprofessional and Quito temper. I am definitely seeing how to transfer for my kids for the following year. She allows her staff to talk to parents any kind of way and yet reports that is the parent fault instead of addressing with our staff that initiates the conflict. This school not only is an education concern with a concern for the Children parents and some Staff has education gone so far down the drain where we are allowing schools and individuals inside the school to demonstrate poor and lack of engagement and unprofessionalism in the workplace as many times as individuals call the school board. I wonder if anyone ever looked into these situations I will continue to call school board until action is done. This School ratings are so low because it's being ran by unprofessional who allow her staff to run the school as it was southeast DC as a parent. I am utterly disgusted that I have to have my child attended school until the school year as other said before, if I was able to withdraw my child right now, I would at this point. The school board needs to do a full investigation please any of you that are reading this or have wrote on this page before continue to call the school board for assistance even if your child does not go there anymore we cannot continue to allow us to go on for our children's education which they deserve.

Horrible school aside from a few great teachers but the principal , vice principal and 8 th grade guidance counselor are the worst I have ever encountered my daughter was assaulted by a boy there in class she had to get 7 stitches and they have done nothing to help make her safe or bring her any justice the have no compassion for the children they just come to work and go home your children are not safe from bullying or violence everyday.

I thought this was a great school until....the communication with this school is very bad. Don't go up to shadow because the kids will say that you are doing something when you are not. Don't bother communicating with the staff because some are worthless. If it wasn't close to end of school year I would WITHDRAWAL MY SON...

My student got beat up for doing his work and not disturbing no one. The kids called him werid and a b word for nothing. My son is special educated and has anxiety and dosent talk alot. so when he came home he was crying and saying he never wanted to come back. I was so mad and i came to the school and told them what happend and they said they couldnt do nothing about it so this school gets a one star. Do Not Recommend!

I have never had or seen a teacher before punish learning. I heard the most ridiculous rule from a student in their 8th grade science class. If you ask the teacher a question on the material, class notes, or assignment requirements the teacher would remove 10 points from a students final grade. So for example they would go from an A to a B for trying to learn a challenging subject. The reasoning that the teacher supplied was that "as a former college professor their help doesn't come without penalty for wasting their time". I have had opportunities to learn from pioneers in the STEM field and they would even help students with work into the late evening, happy that they are putting in effort to learn. This is the worst example of a gatekeeper from a so called teacher I have ever heard. I hope they are investigated and properly dealt with for discouraging learning in a crisis where students are falling behind nationwide on most subjects.

Appalling communication skills with parents. The staff make flagrant decisions for kids that need bus accommodations without discussing with parents. The teachers do not communicate when a child promoted to another class resulting in retainment. Even the principals force kids into high school when they aren’t ready and should be retained. “I love you… but, I don’t want to see you next year…” was what my child was told in front of me. Teachers push their own moral agendas and groomed indoctrination on the children. My other child has come home in tears because of this. Parents you have a choice even if they make you feel you don’t or are not as capable as public. Homeschool in Maryland is very accommodating. Good luck

Im leaving this school next year. Personally, I did not like my 2 year experience here. All of my friends seemed to like it but that is most likely because they have been here since Kindergarten and 2nd Grade (we are currently in 7th Grade). Im not sure if it is just me, but this school raises my anxiety level, but they have a great Mental Health Specialist :)

My son is in the 2nd grade and is enjoying his experience. His teacher Ms. Forbes is truly a professional. She does a good job of engaging each student in person and virtually and creates a positive affirming environment. The school administrators are strong communicators. I receive updates about activities, issues, and positive happenings at the school via email, class dojo, and YouTube in a timely manner. They are also pleasant and welcoming when you interact with them. My only dislike is the amount of testing that our scholars are subjected to. However, I acknowledged that those decisions are made at the county level.

This review reflects that thoughts of may parents as I have spoken to several Accokeek parents (all educators) in upper and lower campus. This school is a great school with teachers who care and are in tune with the needs of their students. Overcrowding issues are due mostly to people who are dishonest about where their children live. If this was rectified the class sizes would be smaller. Communication is a strength of Dr. Adams and is supported by her strong administrative staff (grade level administrators). For example, Ms. Crook is a stellar K-2 administrator and addresses challenges and issues swiftly. It seems that most people review only when things are bad. I am taking time to acknowledge that my children have had a wonderful experience and enjoy coming to school each day with excitement. Parent involvement is encouraged and supported at this school.

I've enrolled my son into this school since 2015. The school was amazing! the Teachers were so nice, the only thing I dislike is that when my son gets on the bus, he always brings me news about someone bullying him. And this has been going on for YEARS and they still haven't fixed the behavior. If the bullying was better, Id give it 5 stars, but for now, it will stay just like this.

Most teachers don't care about your kid. They say negative words and when your kid is in eighth grade they would give your kid advanced math classes called advance algebra.I could barely spell. Your kid in advance algerbra would be stressed out including all classes.

The leadership at Accokeek Academy is very engaged. Dr. Adams is at most PTSA meetings and Honors Assembly. In the rare occasions that she is unable to attend, she always send another administrator to represent her. Dr. Adams is involved in the daily activities of the school, is easily accessible to parents, and manages by walking around to ensure that she stays in touch with school happenings.

Accokeek Academy supports students with learning differences in many ways. Two methods that I am aware of is that students with learning differences are pulled out of their primary class (for about an hour) and work with a teacher specialist with a smaller group of students. Another method is within a class, a teacher will assign students in groups based on the reading level and assign work that matches and challenges them at their level.

I love Accokeek Academy from the teachers, to the Principal, to the office staff. Everyone is helpful and friendly to parents and students. Every year my son has been given challenging work and projects. I love the fact that there is a big emphasis on reading comprehension and critical thinking. From kindergarten, kids are taught to be independent and the school has focused on getting the kids ready for college. The main reason that the school is overcrowded is because everyone wants to send their children to Accokeek Academy. The school has been working with the community and the school board to address the overcrowding issue and have reached a resolution for the 2020-2021 school year and beyond.

Principal and assistant principal need to enforce stricter zoning guidelines. They allow children from Waldorf and Oxon Hill to attend this school without tuition and allowing transportation which causes extremely late buses and classrooms with 35 kids to 1 teacher ratios.

Homework assignments are not helpful because the kids aren’t being taught in school. My child had 35 kids and 1 teacher in his classroom last year making it hard to receive attention from the teacher.

Not good. Again, the student to teacher ratio last year for my child was 35/1. How can one learn and focus on students when there are so many children in a classroom. My child is enrolled this school year and I will see how it goes for the 1st semester. If the class is overcrowded he will be removed from Accokeek Academy and placed in private school.

I've had several incidents happen last year from child being bullied on bus, threatened to be killed. Book bag thrown out bus window. Fights on playground last year, nothing happened, no one accountable. Nothing from leadership buy promises. Made 7 phone calls before a call back.

They communicate when asked but have not been proactive. All of the classes are overcrowded and teachers are perpetually behind schedule of the county's set curriculum, even giving tests on work introduced in class the same day in an effort to try to 'keep up'.

There is little to no accountability from the instructional director down to the principal, administration and teachers. The principal is hardly there and vice principals address even the most serious issues, and that comes after pursuing a concern vigorously.

My child has been going to this school for 5 years and I have only had one grade mix up. This school is very good and organized. My chid has not been bullied or has had any problems with teachers. This school has a very organized way of teaching. Now that she is in 6th grade the school has been introducing them to new technology. 5 Stars to the Academy!

Accokeek Academy is a great npre-K through 8th grade school. My child has been attending the school for the past four years. When we moved to the area, we were hesitant about putting our child in PG County public schools, but Accokeek Academy has been great for our child. It has an excellent full-day talented and gifted program, and the school s music programs are particularly strong. There are lots of good, dedicated teachers. The current principal is great and committed, continuously striving to improve the school; she has been at the school for three years now, and there have been positive changes regarding school communications, organization, and academic rigor. Like with any school, there obviously are some issues, but the school leadership is committed to addressing concerns as they come up. The new elementary building was completed in January 2014, and the middle school is currently under renovation. The new/completely renovated campus is scheduled to be finished by the 2015-2016 school year.

Accokeek Academy has a welcoming environment with very welcoming staff and students. I recently visited the school and was very impressed with the level of respect and scholarship exhibited by the middle school students. The interaction was not rehearsed; the students were completely open to learning and anxious to share their knowledge of the world.

This school is a joke. The only people that care about the children's education are the Guidence Counselors and the exception of a few other teachers. The leadership starts off good at the beginning of the year but fall off by the Christmas break. This school not only needs a new building but a new staff that actually cares if the children succeed or not. Does the school system not teach vocabulary words anymore, while there giving out meaningless assignment there should be vocabulary words and quizzes for every grade level. Some big changes need to happen or there just setting the kids up for failure. 1 star only because I have too.

Accokeek was the best school I've ever went to. It had cool teachers, fun activities, and they know how to throw a party,plus they have added some cool classes this 2013-2014 year. I'm in the choir and the whole music part of school is AMAZING! So many talented people! Though it has it's ups and downs. (Like how some people think that one or two of the teachers and administrators are a bit creepy) It's a good school. And no, you don't have to worry about your kids having their hair cut by a rent-a-barber. (It was a one time thing.) And about the fights; If your child stays within the right path like I did and doesn't talk badly about people; they'll be just fine. We don't jump people out of the blue. I've only seen 1 fight this year and about 2 that started to boil before the teachers stopped it. Can't wait to get back there! P.S.:The 7&8 are going to be outside the school due to reno. They'll be put in trailer- like class rooms.

Accokeek Academy is a great school. My son has been at this school for 2 years now and he loves it. He can't stop talking about his recent trip to New York, it was a great experience for him. Whenever I had a problem (only had a few minor ones) the administration always worked it out. My son's teachers always challenge him and keep me informed as well. My son is in the 8th grade. I hope the administration at the high school is as effective as they are at Accokeek Academy. I recommend Accokeek Academy to any parent that lives in the area.

Anyone find it ironic that the school's homepage at http://www1.pgcps.org/eugeneburroughs/index.aspx?id=22350 shows a banner that reads 'Maryland Public Schools: #1 in the nation 5 years in a row!' This school, and Prince Georges County School District by extension, do not reflect that title whatsoever. The school district and this school should both be torn down and rebuilt from the ground up.

MY CHILD HAS TO GO TO SCHOOL AND HOPE NO ONE BOTHERS HER AND THAT IS NO WAY TO GO ABOUT A SCHOOL DAY. i've heard about PG County schools but never experienced anything like it. My child attended only 3 qtrs at Accokeek & by the middle of the 3rd qtr I was ready to home school. It's a joke from the administration down. There was only 1 administrator there who seemed to have any sense of what she was doing, but she was a resident principal. The 1st day we went to register my child I thought I was in a zoo. The teachers could care less if your child is failing; they won't even contact you - you'll find out when grades come. The music program is past substandard. Some teachers are just as ghetto as some of the students & 1/2 the time they don't even show up. My child had a substitute in at least 1 of their classes each week. The science fair was a hot mess - it was like being in elementary school. There's no tutoring for kids who need it. The school doesn't partner w/ any college or the community to get the educational or financial assistance needed. W/ the amt of $ folks make in PG County, it's ashame that more $ isn't spent on a better facility and education for their kids in this particular school. I'd close the school if I could but kids in the area need a school to go to. HATE IT!
