The homework is given with the students in mind to all the other projects the other educators are assigned. The teachers work as a team to make sure it's not overwhelming.

Phenomenal!!! My child loves her school!!! This is truly a testimony of it takes a village to raise a child, we'll at BDS it is really a village of teachers supporting the students.

Starting with the morning routine, teachers in homeroom have holistic circles with character-building discussions. Students talk all the time about BDS being a family.

Principal Valentine absolutely changed BDS. The school is now a model in the city, and the teachers and students all feel the positive vibes and want to be a part and contribute to it.

My son graduated in 2018 with college credits. He loved his teachers and is doing well in college. I continue to have a deep loved and passion for BDS and always will.

We've been at BDS going on 4 years now. While there has been a rocky first few years with poor leadership, budget issues and a host of other issues that needed tending, a new Principal came on board with the 14/15 school year, and really began to turn the ship around. Dr. Patrylo immediately addressed budget issues and got the school back on track, got rid of underperforming teachers, as well as a core group of students with serious behavior problems. For the 15/16 school year, over a dozen new teachers have been hired, there's AP & honors courses, as well as SAT Prep & a host of other programing that will increase the academic rigor at the school. Last year showed definitive change. This year promises explosive growth. If anyone has a child with an aptitude towards graphic, fashion or architectural design, BDS should be at the top of the list for consideration. Take a visit. Talk with the Principal and students. Attend a PTO meeting and talk with parents. Get real feedback. Keep an eye out for the test scores to see if there's a difference as the years progress. Yes, the bldg is impressive, but even more impressive is conversing with the students about what they've learned and how they want to apply that knowledge to reach their future goals. I'm a parent in the school, and see the effects of a design-based education. I see the problems and if/how they're being addressed, and I see the successes. BDS has highly talented teachers, and a staff that's invested in the school. Focusing on what BDS does offer, will leave you impressed.

This school is unorganized and dysfunctional. No real leadership, and is going down. This upcoming school year (2014-2015) will make the 3rd Principal. The 2nd one left unexpectedly, janitor was laid-off because of money issues and some of the Instructors are jokes. The school looks good. Its huge (for no reason, there's nothing going on). It's diverse, not a horrible school, it needs new leadership (hopefully the new Principal does a better job). This school has great potential. I wouldn't give up on this school, but many changes need to be made. I will say, unless your child can attend Baltimore's best schools like (Poly, Western, Roland Park,etc...), I would never send my child to any 1's or 2's, 3's are not good, but the schools listed here with ratings of 1's and 2's are horrible, so The Design school doesn't look bad in comparison.
