I feel like a lot of classes just give us worksheets or print outs and don’t really reteach if we don’t get something the first time. It makes it hard for students to really understand the material, and some of us end up underperforming even if we try. I think it would help if teachers spent more time explaining things, going over tough topics, or checking that everyone gets it before moving on. Being more interested in the students would also help. Outdated teaching methods are hurting us.

honestly, this school is a mess.

The environment is very toxic, and none of the teachers seem to be good at their jobs they can’t teach properly. Most of what you get is just paperwork, not real education. They barely explain things fully, and many teachers don’t act professionally.

The substitutes especially don’t do their jobs. When a substitute is in class, the students basically run wild kids are yelling and moving around freely. It’s like you get freedom only when no one is controlling the class. But honestly, I want freedom in a controlled, respectful environment not chaos.

The school is way too strict with almost no freedom for students. If they’re going to be that strict, they might as well be a private school. The lunch is awful, and it honestly feels like they don’t care at all. The lunch staff can be rude, and the students and teachers often have very negative attitudes overall.

The sports teams are toxic there’s a lot of emotional abuse and harsh treatment. Teachers can be unnecessarily hard on students, even insulting them to their faces. The bathrooms are extremely dirty, and overall, the environment is unhealthy and unpleasant.

CMIT may be ranked somewhere in PG County, but those rankings don’t reflect what students really experience. If you asked the students how they feel, you’d hear a very different story.

There are old teachers who don’t seem invested in your success, and many students who are different or in special education get treated like outcasts or bullied. It’s just a harsh place to be.

If they want to be strict, they need to enforce real consequences and handle discipline properly. Right now, it feels like the school is mentally damaging many students instead of supporting them.

This isn’t about fights or violence there’s none of that. But the culture and attitude are seriously lacking. If you want your kids to get a good education and have a chance to succeed, I would not send them to CMIT. There are better schools where students have more freedom and respect.

Honestly, I’d rather send my kids anywhere else even schools with lower rankings like Eisenhower than CMIT. The only part of CMIT that’s okay is the elementary school, but beyond that, I can’t recommend it.

So please, think twice before choosing CMIT. This is just my experience, but I hope it helps you make a better decision.

This school sucks. I wish I went to an actual public school school can barely fund itself. They need to shut down the school also there’s no bus transportation. How was my child supposed to get to school? I have to pay $400 for a van every month just because the school can’t afford a bus that’s embarrassing And don’t get me started on the athletics here they suck. I mean what kind of high school doesn’t have a football team? unbelievable. If your child has any dreams for sports, don’t send them to the school.

What a great choice for my son. CMIT North Middle School has provided my son with a well-rounded, supportive middle school experience that I am so grateful for. He has truly thrived in this school thanks to the teachers who are invested, experienced, and dedicated to their students learning and having a meaningful experience. The administration provides a firm and nurturing structure for students that makes them feel safe and lets them know what is expected of them. Partnership with parents is very much present and utilized through weekly email contact and updates, invitation to participate in school events, and emphasis on parents being a big part of their child's involvement in school. My son is now in 8th grade and enjoys school, which was not always the case in past years. CMIT strives to take care of the whole child and in return, I can see how my son has benefited from attending a school that truly has its student's best interest at heart. I feel that I made such a good choice for my son to attend CMIT North Middle School- to me, it's like I hit the jackpot that keeps paying out year after year.

The school has it takes it's village to prepare our children approach. The parents, students and school work together. As parent, I have had one child graduated already and was accepted/given scholarships for college based on academic merit alone. I already have other child enrolled this year in middle school and I have seen how great school has evolved since its opening. I will have my youngest enrolled when time occurs.

This school is awesome and i enjoy it very much, i get enough homework as needed and my courses are good except for my reading teacher Mr. Conde who literally barely grades anything but the things he knows that you will do bad on.

This school is terrible! The way of learning here is terrible and many of the students do what they want without teachers bothering them! One of Math teachers pick on many of the students for nothing. One time a student wasn't even talking and got in trouble for talk! Let me also mention the school, Its an I.T school where the IT teacher Ms. Graham can't even teach the class and knows nothing about computers! If you are in honors you are doing advanced math and not even learning about the basic facts of math! Teachers constantly leave and we get new teachers at the school! Example, we had like 2 reading teachers, 2 Spanish teachers, and 2 art teachers. The school also has barley any activities and the parties are terrible. I suggest you go to CMIT South, a private school, or any other school!

I was very enthusiastic about this school. I moved my child from private school. I HAD TO WITHDRAW MY CHILD FROM CMIT and re-enroll at the school previously attended.
My child was placed in class 65, which is one of the higher levels (the highest is 66). The Math that was taught in 6th grade was more 8th, 9th and 10th grade Math and the concepts are being taught, at a ridiculous rate. The child is also expected to perform at a higher level in ALL the other subjects. Sixth grade students are expected to take notes to study etc. No textbooks! I wonder how effective this method can be and also about the parent who is not academically inclined and has no reference as to what his/her child is learning. Because the Math is of such a high level, my child had to drop out of all other extracurricular activities. I felt as if I were back in school. I could not even supplement the teaching effectively because as soon as I began one concept, they would move on to another. It has been the most frustrating experience for me and my child. When my child started complaining about hating Math, a subject which was previously loved, I made the decision to move quickly.
I carpooled with a child in 61 and he seldom had homework compared to my child in 65. There is also a feeling of superiority among the higher level students.
The person who encouraged me to try CMIT, has also removed her child and my neighbor whose son attended CMIT last year is now homeschooling his child.
I would advise any parent to look carefully before leaping. If you have a super smart kid (A's in Math does not necessarily mean the child is super smart. I know 4 kids who were getting A's at their old school but ended up in 61 at CMIT) who would be into his/her books 24 hours then CMIT might be a good choice but for an average or just above average kid who likes to do other things THINK CAREFULLY. The problem is, if the child is placed in a high level class and cannot keep up then the child can be left behind and lose a whole year of instruction. On the other hand, if he/she is in the lower level classes, I am not convinced that he/she is getting the relevant attention and instruction.

I have experience with both middle and high school and it is truly a class system. The students are grouped only by math scores and travel from class to class as a group regardless of other strengths. They lack the ability to manage classroom behavior which often results in lack of effective lessons being taught. The school administration is fully aware and lacks motivation or knowledge to make solid change. Teachers resort to yelling and penalizing the entire class rather than addressing the actual student. I believe the thought is that peer pressure will cause the students to self manage and squash the bad behavior. Instead the quite students get overshadowed and caught in the net of negative SIS points. The students with high math scores are treated quite differently and exposed to all sorts of options versus everyone else who is just left with subpar teachers. The school board really needs to take a hard look at the day to day operation because something is not right. The reputation does not match the reality!! Buyer Beware.

This school is wonderful. The students here are smart and marvelous. The teachers teach great lessons and teach the students what they need to succeed in college. The athletic program is succeeding at high expectations and will soon be better than Dematha. Everyone should enroll their students in this class.

This School is absolutely horrible. Their business practice is of something I have never seen before. The staff can be quite disrespectful and they are not out in the best interest of the students. The culture here is not preventative nor ensuring academic success of the students. It also gives the perception that they treat students differently, by not holding them all to the same standard. Their communication is always one sided without giving the parent the opportunity to have a voice. I DO NOT recommend this organization (they have multiple sites) to any parent considering a charter school.

This school is no honestly a horrible school, after this year im removing my child from the school. The foundation and disciplinary aspects of the school are poor. Students often misbehave and the number of suspensions per week given to students is astonishing. My son has often told me of things that occur on school grounds such as fights, drugs consumption, administrators abusing students, and disrespect to authority. I definitely do not suggest that you send your child here. I learnt my lesson from my child. Also, educational wise, the school is extremely bad! There are only two advanced placement courses throughout the whole school! How does that motivate our student body to excel. The health of our students is poor! After 4 years we still haven't started a plan build/ construct a gymnasium so they can be healthy and their physical bodies are in shape. The high school students don't even get to go outside for excercise or field trips! Students should not be treated like robots: all work no play. All work, and no play will make our students depressed and sad. Finally, the school lunches and breakfast are simply revolting. The other day my son sent me his poor undercooked food!

continue to say that cmit is a great school with challenging curriculum, great teachers & administration, etc. the work i do in class could be done by a lab rat. horrible administration (like mr guenes). he's not a people's person at all. alot of students dislike him because he's always out to get a student in trouble. a classmate of mine was suspended for kissing AFTERSCHOOL which is something you'd see at any other pg county high school. cmit in general makes no sense, frm th principle to some of the staff & the curriculum taught (& im in an honors class.

This school gives its expectation list and how much work is given to the children. All lies! They don't give any more homework than the public school system. My son is a 9th grader who is pretty much failing ever since I put him in this school. The VP nor most of the teachers don't care about these children. What happened to teachers who teach? I get that it is technology focused! However children should have a balance of technology and teachers actually teaching the class not depending on the computers to do the job for them. According to my son the only class he's learning something is in his Science and History. The Math teacher is a excellent teacher but class is taught from a math online website. Which of course for most people math is a subject that is hard on its own and to make students learn from a computer is stupid. In collage math is taught by a teacher 1st and the online stuff is secondary. In some of the classes more than 10 children are failing. If that many children are failing a class then something is wrong with the teacher's style of teaching or the school is giving poor guidance. Don't think because this is a STEAM school it's a great school it's not!

I removed my child from the six grade after second quarter. He was on grade level for math and slightly above grade level for reading. CMIT placed him in the lowest level class. If your child cannot do 7th or 8th grade level work while in the sixth grade, they will be placed in the lowest level. The problem with this is that your child will be in a classroom with kids who are below grade level. Eventually, your child will start to fall behind because the some of the teachers will teach to the lowest level kids i.e. reviewing 5th grade work while the other kids in the classroom learn practically nothing. I was so disappointed and apalled at another teacher who was heard mocking her sixth grade "Xavier" group of students as if they were dumb. Also, we had a major problem with this same teacher who is grossly incompetent and communicated to me in emails with beginning sentences in lower case letters and lower case first person pronoun "I" which is unprofessional to say the least. I do not recommend CMIT for the average student. It was a horrible experience for my child, negatively affected his self esteem and he is a half year behind in math now thanks to CMIT.

Lack of Leadership..... Is the only thing that I can say about this school. I believe in the school's concept of introducing students to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, but the school's approach to education (both academic and social) is not well executed. The school's faculty (administration & teachers) would benefit greatly with training in education techniques that involve a more rounded approach to teaching than just passing out assignments, harshly criticizing students in their completion of the assignments, and assuming that all students regardless of age are perfect. Being a STEM school you would imagine that they would be the first to realize that education is not a boolean decision. There was once a time where a school in Prince George's County was a good place to receive a well balanced education, but unfortunately CMIT is not a school where that is currently possible.

CMIT North- Those parents posting positive comments most likely have students in the highest classes. Yes, this school places the students in classes based on a placement test that administration refuses to provide the parent's with the results of. Those students in the lowest classes are often the recipients of ridicule by both the teachers and the student in their grade. Fortunately, my child is in the highest class for her grade but many of her elementary friends are not. I agree 100% with the previous review that says the teachers do not know the difference between rigor and volume, the principal lacks people skills, and I do not recommend this school. Many of the students leave after or during their 6th grade year; thus the low numbers. The only good thing about this school is that there are very few discipline concerns.

I am so disappointed with this school.I agree with the poster from Dec 8th 100%. If your child is on grade level and performs average (mine was always mostly "B"s and 1 or 2 "C"s student) they will be placed in the lowest level. This would not be so bad if there weren't children in the same class that are BELOW GRADE LEVEL!!!! Guess what happens to the child who is on grade level? They will learn absolutely nothing because the teacher will teach to the lowest performers in the class. They will keep telling you your child is learning on grade level for math and science although the kids are not doing on grade level work. This is a nightmare because my child will actually decline academically here! They only want advanced kids here and this is why it should be competitive to be admitted. The science teacher has the lowest expectations and didn't bother to prepare the kids for the science fair by having them do presentations in the class. The kids in the lowest level do not have a chance because expectations are extremely low. The one positive thing that I can say is that my child is learning how to be a better writer and is learning grammar.

The previous reviewer (who described the elementary school) is so on point, because that review can actually be applied to CMIT North. If your child is very organized, has good self management and has no special needs that necessitate services, this school may work for you. Otherwise, be very cautious about sending your child to this school with an IEP or even a 504 plan. You will have to remain ever vigilant that your child is getting what he or she needs. And if you don't already have either for your child and you think he or she will will need one, I don't recommend CMIT. Also, the school seems to confuse rigor with posting a lot of homework and requiring it to be submitted online, requiring a STEM fair project (with little guidance) of each student, and pushing so-called advanced material that students may not be retaining. The principal is not engaging or personable. Some of the teachers are good, helpful and engaging. Others are disorganized, lack classroom management skills and want to engage in power struggles with students. Overall, the school is a good concept, and many students appear to be doing well here. But the concept is poorly executed.

CMIT Elementary school is great if you have a child that does not need special services due to a learning and/or emotional disability. It is a new school so it does not have school counselor or other support systems that a zone school may offer. Unfortunately, the principal is not very personable and lacks critical child development knowledge which reflects in her decision making regarding the students. However, the school has an accelerated curriculum and fantastic classrooms equipped with state of the art equipment. It is clear that a majority of their funding is in their equipment and not personnel. Hopefully, they will improve their leadership and logistical issues in the coming years.

CMIT is truly a prayer answered. It has been challenging for my child, since this is his 1st year, but i do believe he will come out a better student than when he 1st came to CMIT. I am very impressed with the administration, teachers and the way they drive their students. It is a standard and measure of excellence that has been missing in PG County schools for a very long time.

The school strives to bring the best out of our children and the results is clear for anyone to see. Our satisfaction with the commitment of Mr. AG and the staff as well as the quality of the education is what is bringing us back to CMIT for a 4th year. To see the development and growth of the school from the beginning has been amazing. We are excited to have our daughter start CMIT H.S. next year and to have our younger daughter start middle school. The fact that the county is opening a second CMIT middle school and a CMIT elementary school, is a testament to the impact CMIT has had on our students.

My daughter is a high school student at CMIT. She is really enjoying the challenging courses and extracurricular activities such as the College Leadership Program, Math club, and Orchestra. The dedicated staff and mentors at CMIT make a huge difference and impact. I am really impressed by the time and dedication that the teachers and principle are putting in to make this school a success. CMIT is led by a very engaged principal who personally visited incoming students' home. It was a great introduction to the school. The teachers are nice and they help the students learn to make the information lucid so the students are set up for academic success. The enrichment clubs are very diverse and our daughter was exposed to a variety of cultures, such as the Turkish Enrichment Club and multi-cultural festivals. I was happy to see that the basketball teams were added this year. Overall, CMIT is an excellent school.

As my son is a sixth grade scholar at CMIT, this year the academic agenda has been rigorous and extremely challenging for him. This has been something that he hasn't received thus far, in his previous school. Regardless of how difficult a subject has been for him, he has maintained a positive demeanor towards the next challenge. "We are extremely happy at CMIT. We have re-enrolled both of our children, one is a rising 7th grader and the other is a rising 10th grader. You couldn't get a better education. The teachers are challenging and engaging. The principal listens to the parents' concerns. CMIT offers tutoring workshops focusing on math & language/reading skills, after school clubs like robotics & drama, college tours, travel opportunities abroad and an awesome STEM Science Fair. CMIT is by far the best school in PG County. The school has only been around for 3 years but has met all goals set. Using technology as the method to educating has to be a great benefit along with the academic curriculum that challenges the student not just do good enough to meet the bar but to do better to soar above of the bar and achieve excellence. The staff, administration and parents work together to support the students, which is something that I have never experience in any school.

CMIT Academy is a hidden treasure in PG County. As a public charter school, we entered our son in the lottery to attend the school. We feel as f we have hit the educational lottery for our son. Students are given a challenging academic curriculum which is STEM focused. He has been given the tools for success at CMIT. Staff and administration are incredible. Parent involvement has been even great than I anticipated. We are extremely happy. Most importantly, our son is really enjoying CMIT.

My son has been at CMIT for 3 years, and we have been extremely happy. The curriculum is challenging and we welcome the advanced math and science curriculum. In 8th grade, algebra 2 and biology were both offered for his class. You will not find that in other area middle schools. Dedicated staff willing to work with students before school, after school and on Saturday mornings. Tremendous amount of parent involvement!
