This has to be the worst school of all time the assistant principal has no care for his students and he is just so weird he only looks at one group of boys and writes them up for stupid idiotic stuff that literally any other school wouldn’t care for and he is always looking at the middle school girls all the time I would never go here unless u want to be miserable for ur whole middle school life and the students aren’t even that bad they genuinely just are chill only a little bit of the students aren’t genuine mean people and the food isn’t as bad as others but they should upgrade their food.

I am now in high school. I went to Brooklyn Park Middle School for the Performance Visual Arts program. I went to this school my 6th grade year and never returned. That should tell you that this school is not good. First, there are SO MANY fights in that school, the teachers cannot control their students, especially the violent ones. Students get threatened left and right. The teachers don't deserve half of the disrespect they receive. The administrators act as if they are friends with the students. They don't take anything serious when it comes to actual issues in the school. Let's get to my personal experience. I had this "friend" and she was talking bad about me everyday. I found out, and I decided to cut her off and stop communicating with her. We had mutual "friends" and they decided to pick sides and stop being "friends" with me. I was okay with that. Until, They decided that they wanted 15-20 people just in my grade to JUMP me. They never succeeded but it caused me to have anxiety just being around them. I had classes with each of them. I wasn't scared but I just didn't know if it was gonna happen or not. My mother had to pick me up from school multiple times because I refused to go to certain classes. The Administrators didn't do ANYTHING to resolve the problem. They knew the threats that I was getting via social media and through others in the school. They never directly came to me and did anything. They always swore they "were gonna beat my a**" and they never did. The Lord was covering me through those tough times and I depended on him the whole time. My mother was fed up with all of the threats they were giving. I had to watch my back EVERY SINGLE DAY. It was draining to my mental health and it took a toll on my well being. I never returned to that evil, negative school. Mostly because I moved away but if I stayed where I was leaving, I probably would have never returned still because that school is dangerous. Do not let your kids come to this school.

They received a new principal for this school year (24-25), and she has done nothing to address the issues facing the students and families in this school. Apparently she got demoted from a high school in the county where she had very similar issues dealing with things as they arose.

It sucks.. the teachers don’t care about the schedule, some are cool but they don’t actually teach. The principal punishes the whole grade because of 1 or 2 students. Racism everywhere, teachers don’t care even though they are supposed to handle hate crimes. Students are trash too… They bully and disrespect teachers and other students.

I will say that the PVA program is good, but the office staff and principal must hate the students. My guess is that they are only there to collect a paycheck.

Today is my niece's birthday and they said we could bring her food for her and her lunch table. When we arrived with the Chic-Fil-A food, the office staff refused to allow the food in because it was in a plastic bag instead of a brown paper bag or lunchbox. The office staff and principal knew the girls would be without lunch and they really didn't care one bit. I can't imagine more heartless people running a school!

The other comments here are older, and I know there's new teachers and staff. I think it's a better school than most people assume. It's also beautiful and doesn't feel like a jail like some AACPS schools.

AACCPS has a clear homework policy. It can be no more than 10% of a student's grade. Teachers are understanding and do not assign busy-work.

Teachers are always in some kind of professional development and they help make the school better.

The school has a program where students have a teacher and a small group of other kids, and they sit in a circle and talk and learn how to work out their problems. All the staff I've met teach respect in their class.

The principal has a clear idea of how great she wants the school to be, and the administrators are very supportive and helpful. AACPS policies are pretty strict so even with that they have to suspend students.

The person in charge of Special Ed is really good. She returns calls quickly and the meetings go well. They are really trying to help your kid. Not all teachers are perfect at supports the first time, but the school handles it.

It took the Administrators until my child had to defend herself to recognize bullying and even then it was brushed under the rug (She also went to the Administrators herself twice)

I love how most teachers give out their homework on Mondays and it is not due until Fridays. They have all week to work on it. This is fantastic because it allows the student not to get stressed about it; it allows the student to learn time management; and it allows the student to have family time or time for other activities after school. I also love that some of the teachers send an email with the homework that will be given out on Monday so that way the parent knows what the child will be doing for that particular week. I wish this was mandatory for all of the teachers to do this. However, for the ones that already implement this success building strategy, you are setting the students up for achievement!

The PVA magnet program at Brooklyn Park Middle School is outstanding! As a parent and volunteer, I see so many of the students with a great attitude, a quest for learning, and they are actually able to carry on conversations with adults! I am super impressed with this program and credit its success to the wonderful and highly motivated teachers and staff. I have been to many of the school events and have not witnessed "clique-ish" behavior or bullying at all. I have only seen the kids interacting and being friendly to everyone. The positive rewards that the teachers implement must be working, because my daughter is happy to go to school in the mornings and still has a smile on her face when she comes home in the evenings! I think the low score on this website should really be re-evaluated. It is an outstanding school with very helpful teachers and staff, as well as having incredibly gifted students!

I've subbed at this school only once, but feel inclined to give a positive opinion. It is true that this school has a "reputation" for some reason, perhaps because of its Baltimore address. Hopefully, I can help defeat that myth. I've worked in schools throughout MD and other states. This is not a hectic, bad, unruly school at all. I had a very nice day with staff and students. The students thanked me at the end of classes. The environment is "normal." It's not the highest ranked academically or perfect, but there are some kids here from very challenging backgrounds. This definitely isn't a "ghetto school" or a "failing school" and deserves no stigma. I've worked in schools with deserved stigmas, and I know what that looks/feels like. The halls and classes here feel "normal." It's not a bad place to be at all, and is certainly worth a chance. I look forward to returning soon. I'd be happy to teach there full time.

The Administration Team At Brooklyn Park Middle School Are Very Rude. They Are Cruel To The Students. My Child Told Guidance That Others Students Who Does Not Attend Brooklyn Park Are Coming To The School To Fight Her, And The School Did Not Help Or Try To Protect My Child. The Next Day The Girls Came To The School To Fight My Child And The School Expelled Both Of My Daughters. The School Lied To The Board Of Education And They Are Feeding Lies To The Communtiy About My Childern . Brooklyn Park Middle School Is Not A School That Can Be Trusted With You Child's Safety.

My daughter has been going to this school for two years now she's in avid and has been on honor roll the whole two years.but the adminstration in this school has no idea what these kids put up with from other students,and always quick to take sides with other students,insted of getting both sides of the story.their school lunches are uncooked and thety still serve it to the students,even thou the health department has been called multi times and have been there.the borad has also been called on this school and yet nothing is being done.They have a no bullying rule but in all honesty it still happens and the teachers turn their back quick.i would not put my child in this school

My son and daughter are in this school. He is an ASD (Asperger) in 6th grade and my daughter is in 7th grade. Bulling is a bigger problem than the administration wants to acknowledge. We have had to modify our son's IEP because of this bullying. Our daughter has had some bullying but not as bad. Most of the Teachers are excellent, and a few are outright outstanding when dealing with children with issues.
