Im very disappointed with how this school handled my sons situation. He is a special needs student, and instead of offering the proper support and accommodations he needed, the school repeatedly suspended him and delayed the process of placing him in an appropriate special-needs program.
As a parent, its heartbreaking to see a child punished for challenges that require understanding and resources, not discipline. I hope the administration improves their approach to helping families with special needs children so no other parent has to go through what we did.

Central Elementary is a great school. The teachers and faculty are very engaged in student learning, yes academically, but also in social development too. In our experience (we're on year three at this school), there's an open line of communication between teachers and parents (and administration, if needed) about our child's success and any hiccups along the way. The new CKLA (Core Knowledge Language Arts) curriculum rolled out this school year is pretty impressive! The Central community itself is very connected; many families are involved in the PTO, afterschool clubs/organizations and local fundraising initiatives to benefit those beyond the elementary school walls. There is something to do or get involved with every month! Keep in mind the overall number of the GreatSchools ranking does not always depict the true value of a school, whether good, bad or mediocre. You need to evaluate the feedback of those that are PART of that school community.

Both of my children attended, one with an IEP. Teachers and administration went above and beyond to work with my child and family, my child thrived and flourished. Both children were well engaged and enjoyed their classmates as well as their teachers.

My child came from another highly rated school and had a much better experience at Central Elementary. The teachers and administration went out of their way to make her feel like a member of the Central community. She enjoys going to school every day.

The children develop in spite of the school not because of it.

The principal can care less about the students.

My child was bullied for a full year, the school did nothing.

The teachers do not communicate their expectations

If I could give them zero stars, I would.
Posted: April 5, 2018
In my experience they seem to ignore bullying.

The principal and teachers offer little help when called upon to do their respective jobs.
Posted: April 5, 2018
They seem to care more about their reputation than ensuring the children they oversee.
Posted: April 5, 2018
They are strong proponents of common core and do not care if you actually learn anything and go out of their way to treat kids differently based on their personal feelings, not facts.
Posted: April 5, 2018
From my experience, the teachers are not watching the children and offer little assistance during long projects and just expect 100% completion with little to no encouragement or assistance should questions arise. Children as young as second grade are left alone, with ZERO SUPERVISON, as the teacher only focuses on a small percentage of the class. When you question them they blame everything on common core.

Students are no longer trusted and adults are always in the right. If a child's story isn't given consideration then a disservice is done to the child.

The staff is great. The teachers are hit or miss. They are constantly facing curriculum changes which make things difficult for them. The kindergarten team is great. However the new principal leaves A LOT to be desired. He has really changed the atmosphere of the school and not for the better. If I had a choice I would not send my child there.

Considering the student population, I feel the results are less than where they should be. Both of my children didn't feel comfortable there, even after several years. It is VERY loud at lunch. I wasn't happy and I have moved them to another school where they are much happier.

I attended this school starting in second grade and I absolutely loved it! The teachers were so interactive with our classes and i really had a great time there. Mrs.Haberline is the best principal like ever! I think she does a fine job at Central Elementary. She and Ms. Keenen, which has sadly moved on, helped me win the ark community award and i cant thank them enough. My education there has brought me far, enabeling me to be in the most advanced coarses possible in middle school, including high-school coarse classes in 6th grade. I would recommend this school to anybody because i just loved it soo much. I even still attend Author Artist Night to connect with my old teachers.

Love it. We have three children currently attending Central Elementary. In the last few years I have been able to volunteer often at the school, where I have seen the teachers and staff in action and I am so impressed. They go the extra mile, they take it personally and the children respond. The parent involvement is equally impressive and as a result the school offers so many unique programs and events. It is a great feeling to know you are sending your children off to a place where they will thrive.
