Horrible school!!! If your kid has the slightest learning disability dont sent them here!! Ignoring all suggestions from parents on how to better your child in school, absolutely no communication!! Every single special event the school had they would send multiple pictures of the kids to parents, my daughter was never in any of the pictures. She was never involved in class activities. The teachers just put her to the side like she was diseased and didnt want the other kids to catch it. If you expect your child to be in a play or have a special role in any of the performances dont count on it unless they make straight a and are a class favorite they choose the same kids for special parts over and over not giving any other kids opportunities to shine.

My kids attend Beach and we love this school. One of my children is developmentally delayed. The teachers and staff have been amazing with him . I always feel supported from his teachers and staff during IEP meetings and that they try to help my child as much as possible . The teachers all seem to truly care for the students..

As former public school teachers, my husband and I are so pleased to say that Beach Elementary School is fantastic! Our daughter was incredibly prepared for middle school. The teachers, administrators and support staff created a challenging yet caring learning environment. Beach is a great place for kids!

They introduced the Common Core curriculum for the first time this year. Not impressed. The standards are "dumbed" down. Everything is taught in a group, all children are grouped and they basically teach themselves. My child is frustrate with having to learn math in a group the kids in the group bicker and argue but they are taught to resolve their differences, iLooking into the local private schools or moving to Virginia (they didn't adopt the CC standards). Curious to see what the MSA scores will be like since the test is going to be more advanced than what is being taught. The Common Core test won't be released till 2015. The children are the ones that will suffer if we parents don't put a stop to this. Do your research parents about common core. Let me just be clear, the teachers are doin their best with what is given to them to teach, the staff including the principal are all top notch and they truly care about the kids, my problem is the curriculum and that within itself is enough for me to seek for something better.

Beach Elementary really is a great place for kids. I cannot say enough good things about the hard working principal, Dr. Shisler; his energy has made the school (and the chess club) one of the best in the area. The teachers and staff are excellent and create a community atmosphere. In addition, the PTA and high level of parent involvement have a strong impact on the school's overall success.

NEED IMPROVED ACTIVITY FOR P/E AND RECESS P/E TEACHER NEEDS NEW PHILOSOPHY PHYSICAL ACTIVITY PAYS MANY TYPES OF DIVIDENDS

I have had four kids start in this school and almost all of them finish here. We have since moved but we loved everyone at Beach. The Principle is one of the best principles anywhere. My kids love their time at Beach and are in all Honor classes as they have moved forward. All of my kids can now play chess and because of the Principle and Vice Principle my kids are going to take something with them that no one can take away. Thank You Beach!

I would have to definitely agree with the previos review, the PE and recess time are definitely being deprived to our children. This is so sad since obesity is becominga widespread epidemic in the US and now our schools are enforcing that behavior. These are the years children need extra excercise, especially the best excercise of all....running..... to keep their minds sharp and focused and to burn off excess energy and here they are limited to 2 PE periods a week and one very short recess a day. I feel the teaching staff is doing amazing especially with very minimal break times and trying to get very young children to focus for a full 7 hrs. The lack of natural sunlight in the classroom is very depressing on top of the lack of outdoor activity. Parent involvement is very low from the schools we came from which is very sad for the teaching and support staff.

Our children have been at this school for two years and we have been extremely happy with their education and the sense of community they feel. As kindergartners they were welcomed and into a warm environment where they could adjust to being away from home all day and get a feel for this whole "school" thing that will be their life for the next 13 years. They continued to grow in first grade and their reading comprehension and math skills really took flight. They are only allowed to choose Accelerated Reader books from the library and have time during each school day where they DEAR, Drop Everything And Read. The teacher has provided many math manipulatives for the students to practice their facts. The other reviews have commented on the principle and it is all true. He is fantastic. He is very involved with all of the students and welcomes them at the door by name. Before the upper grades are dismissed from the cafeteria to go outside for recess he chooses a student from each table (class) to stand up and the group must correctly solve a math problem. He is also very involved in Chess and encourages all students to learn the game. Great school!
