3 principles in 3 years should say enough. If you want your kids to go to a safe school, don't go here. If you want hour kids to get an education, dont go here. Crofton Elementary is a terrible school that has gone down hill quickly under new leadership.

1) No police/resource officer on site. This may be true but the Town Hall "buildings" (which is a SFH converted to office space) is next door, abutting the school property. There is no fence between the properties, and you can see the school from the Town Hall house. I mention that because Crofton PD operates out of that house. Several times a week, I see officers in the school parking lot, just sitting there. So, while the school may not have a dedicated officer, there is a police presence around the school. 2) My child's classroom size (teacher to student ratios) has always been in the 22-27 child range (per one teacher). In that regard, the class sizes are not ideal. In my opinion, that's far too many children for one teacher to try to manage, while effectively teaching. 3) My child has been at this school since kindergarten (2020). That year, it was virtual, due to COVID. Even during that stressful time (entering school at a Kinder and school being 100% virtual), the teacher and teacher assistants handled the circumstances VERY well. 4) My daughter has progressed appropriately with each grade. 5) In our experience, the primary grade students are given laptops that they can take home with them. This is helpful for homework and accessing resources when your child needs extra support for a topic they're learning but may be struggling with. By Grade 3, the laptops no longer are allowed to come home - not even for virtual learning days, which happen when they run out of snow days. So, if you don't have a home computer, that becomes challenging. I wouldn't suggest using an iPad or other tablet for virtual school. Its just not conducive for that platform. 6) All of the teachers, with the exception of one in Grade 3, were absolutely wonderful. Third grade we hit a rough patch, but after meeting with the teacher a couple of times and addressing things with my child, we were back on track and the rest of the year was uneventful. ((Honestly, I just think it was time for that teacher to retire, but that's just a personal opinion.)) 7) My child has allergies, and the school has been good about finding a balance where she doesn't feel alienated at lunchtime and is able to sit near her peers. 8) EXCELLENT PTA! The PTA-sponsored events and care for staff is amazing!

We have had nothing but wonderful, positive experiences at CES. The teachers we have been blessed to have are incredibly strong and dedicated. I work in the school system myself and have been nothing but impressed by how CES relates to kids and families. I won't want to move simply because I love this school so much!

I have three children at this school in 5th, 2nd and 1st, and each of them have had terrific experiences. The teachers and staff go to great lengths to educate our children and go the extra mile. We have had weekend conversations with teachers and seen them at multiple after school activities. The PTA is active and strong. Great events such as Monster Mash, Holiday parade, field trips to Arlington Echo and Annapolis and a great strings and band faculty.

I'm not sure how anyone could rate this school lower than good or great. I suspect the issue would lie more with the parent/child than the school.

I am always comparing the way I was taught back in prehestoric times with today. And I must say it is VERY different when it comes to Math and Spelling/Reading. But if my child gets it and can explain it than I am fine with that.

I LOVE Asst. Principal White . I always see her making sure the school is in order, safe and that if students are fine. She also goes the extra-mile for the school in my opinion. It would be great if Principal Lawhorn need to make herself more visible vs. invisible. But she was new to the school in 2016-17. We will see if it changes for 2017-18.

The school offers activities such as playing in the band, Math 24 and what was very AWSOME in 2016-17 acting in school the school play. The Annie play was the first ever I was told and the director Ms. Adams did an excellent job. Can't wait to see what she has in store for 2017-18 school year. And I think it would great if the school supports the students by allowing them to participate in events like Spelling B and so forth.

The school does a good job but I think it could be better if maybe a "Officer Friendly" Officer comes to speak with students and some one from Juvenile Detention Center so students will be aware of the rules and what not to do. Talk about diversity because the school in increasing its diversity of every year. Make it a school function versus a teacher and student function.

My experience at Crofton Elem. has been good. They are very close in my book to being great. I think that a few things that I mention up above just need to be address to make it better. But the office staff and its teachers are good so far. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY! the PTA is well involved and support the community with fundraising events.

There approach to homework is fantastic for the parent(s) and child. It resembles college where students have 4 days to complete assigned work. That method is great because it allows your child to get proper sleep if managed right.

Excellent facility, great teachers and a very involved principal. I've found teachers to be very approachable and very responsive.

The teacher of my daughter doesn't know how to differentiate. My daughter regressed from being an honor roll to a C student. Parent communication was poor. Had couple of conference with the principal and the teacher but nothing was done. Teacher uses "one size fits all" approached and never believed nor developed the potentials of my daughter. We have to move to another rental home just to get away from this school.

Been very pleased with the school's administration, teachers and community. Good communication with teachers whether in person or via email. Great parent participation in school from both working parents and at home parents. LOTS of opportunities to get involved. Daughter has attended here past 2 1/2 years (K-2) and has excelled in every area. CES knows KIDS:)

I have two children at CES. They love their school experience. This is their second academic year and it didn't take long for them to adjust. My chlidren participate in the various activities. Children are encouraged to write a book every year with Paw Printers which is outstanding. The staff from the nurses office to the front office are very welcoming and ready to help. I have been very impressed the the teaching staff and administrative staff.

AWFUL. Moved here SPECIFICALLY for the schools. Used the ratings on THIS website as basis for our decision. Wish we'd never, ever moved here. Teacher is incompetent, ill equipped to deal with a child who is borderline ADD. Has my child singled out as a failure. We check our child's homework every night. Teacher frequently marks my child's work wrong when it isn't - sometimes there's more than 1 correct answer. If it isn't in teacher's answer key,. it's wrong. No exceptions. What does that teach a child? *Most* of the front office staff: bitter, judgemental, RUDE. Always so very rude. Crime is abundant. Do your homework. Google is your friend. I have a child in another school nearby, and I have nothing but wonderful things to say about it. Have a great relationship with the principal, the teachers - even the office ladies. I *know* it isn't just me.
