Honestly I’m so glad this is my sons last year at this school. The teachers my son has had over the years have been between fantastic to terrible. ESPECIALLY this year. His kindergarten, 2nd grade, and 3rd grade teachers were the absolute best! They communicated with me effectively and efficiently. As well as took the time to follow his 504 plan and understand his need for extra support and kept me in the loop at all times. 1st grade was virtual due to Covid so you can imagine how that went..4th grade was meh because I never received updates on anything as his plan states but at least the teachers he had then actually communicated to some extent. This year is 5th grade and it has been the WORST experience. From his actual teacher leaving the school 3 days into the school year, to the acting-teacher being an absolute nightmare with communication as well as he comes home everyday complaining about how rude she is to the class. Communication with her is basically non-existent and its completely unprofessional. His CARTs technology teacher (who also left the school after I complained about his grade) giving him a D in the 1st quarter because she refused to follow his 504 plan. Because of that D, he didn’t have honor roll for the first time EVER at this school and she refused to change it and the new principal didn’t do anything about it. The administration is a joke and doesn’t care about parents complaints. Don’t let the awards fool you into thinking this school is absolutely amazing. There clearly are parents who agree because why else would the google reviews be turned off and I you have to come to this site to leave a review?? Begs the question why is that? I hate that when you’re trying to get information the teachers just blatantly ignore your messages on class dojo and only send group messages on the class chat that you can’t respond to. Thank goodness for the PTO who made a group chat for parents to share information with each other since we can’t rely on the teachers to do their jobs. Again I’m talking about this school year. Terrible. Awful. My son needed mental health days to get through the year and I had to keep him home to take a break from being around his teacher. She isn’t even a “teacher” she is “acting teacher” and she chooses which responsibilities to follow and not all. 0-10. Don’t send your kid here if they need a 504 plan or IEP. The teachers, that my son unfortunately was paired with, don’t care!!

The leadership at this school takes zero accountability for anything that goes wrong. They won’t even hold their teachers accountable for gross misconduct. Most of the good teachers have left, however, they still have a handful remaining that actually care and teach the children. They have the kids sitting in front of screens most of the day. Half the teachers don’t respect the principals and the horrible teachers get away with bloody murder.

They are constantly asking for money and donations for EVERYTHING.

They are a STEM school that has yet to teach the kids the scientific method, yet each year they require the students to do a huge science fair project with a written paper which is great, except they haven’t taught the kids to write sentences and paragraphs. They haven’t taught kids about variables and constants but they are required to explain this. When I pointed this out, they sent home a video and a booklet for the parents to teach the kids themselves. Like I said ZERO ACCOUNTABILITY.

They look good on surface, they say the right things but do not execute. When the MD state evaluators came to the school, they had the teachers and students put on a great show. The next week, it was back to normal. Communication is horrible unless they’re asking for money or they want to make a point about how unruly the elementary students are as a justification for why kids aren’t learning. When you call them out they deflect or tell you it’s your problem.

Send your child somewhere else unless your other options are absolutely abysmal.

This school teachers don't really want to help the students they just like yelling at them and the teachers mainly like the girls, not the boys. Also if you do something really bad you don't even get suspended I would not recommend this school for those who want a good life and a good education I would suggest other schools that are actually fair to their students and like to help them learn things and not hate on them.

this school is not good at all Everybody that is in this school hates it and they try to force the students to say good things about this school. Still, we refuse as this school is not good there have been statements of rats in that school, and the school should be shut down, my son was begging me to switch schools and my friends and his brother's kids are hated constantly. The bullying is nothing they say the deal with the bullying that's a lie as my friend's son was bullied for having an android and the bullying did not stop. this school forgets about boys and says they like the girls better.

CMIT South has its benefits and downsides. I sent my student there for 6th grade. He was bullied and people picked fights with him. The staff is really good! Time to Time, the students can cause disruption to class . Staff will be there but not often they are just there to monitor and remove students from the class! I can’t say most things because this is all from what my kid said. The school overall is good for the lessons. Advanced is different from other schools in PG county. Their rival school is probably better than this but it is what it is . My overall review on this school is a 3.5. I would recommend your child to go here just to make sure to monitor them. EDIT 6/8 : CMIT SOUTH had an issue on this day. My kid was sitting outside for about a whole period outside in the bad air quality. They didn't tell us what was happening, all they told us was that we cannot pick up our kids. They told us what happened in an email talking about a threat of violence made by an anonymous caller. I was mad and my kid was texting me to come pick them up and a teacher took my kids phone! I was very mad just because the school is on lockdown or something doesn't mean you have the right to go and take my kids phone that I pay for him to use.

Can say so many great things about this school. The school offers so many programs for the kids including clubs like coding and Lego building. The parent teacher organization at this school is amazing. The coordination between the parent teacher organization and the teachers, staff and parents really can make the difference between a good school and a great school! The principle is extremely engaged and informative. Parent are kept up to date regularly with frequent communication. My children are excelling academically and socially.

The bathrooms are dirty the hallways aways have trash in them and its just bad people are always playing in the bathrooms teachers are rude 7th grade math teacher is extremely rude and doesn't really listen to anyone in the class except her favorite students some of the staff are good but most of them are bad the classrooms have no AC and most of the time its either super hot or super cold and the schools safety is bad because people always scream and yell in the hallways and fight and most of the time the bathrooms are closed because people mess them up

Poor.. I had very high hopes for this school 3 years ago each year it has dropped drastically. CMIT South is not at the same level as they other CMIT Schools.

Posted: June 14, 2018

Teachers assign homework for topics not yet covered in class. My daughter received 30 assignments in one night from her science teacher because she got behind due to standardized testing.

Posted: June 14, 2018

There is a very high turnover in teachers. My daughter has been here for 3 years. 6 grade 2 Spanish teachers, then the assistant principal, the science teacher did not grade they students work. They found it pulled in his classroom. 7th grade 4 English teachers. 8th grade science teacher never lectured during class she relied on websites to teach the lessons and. More websites for homework.. 30 in one night.

Most teachers use the sis point system as negative reinforcement for Behavior.

Posted: June 14, 2018

Mr AG the original Principle was more effective then the current acting principle Ms Asafa. She has no personality and never really engages with the kids. She walks the halls and always seems to have a scowl on her face. That kinda attitude from the leadership transfers to the teachers and the kids. Not an enjoyable learning environment.

Posted: June 14, 2018

Posted: June 14, 2018

My daughter has dealt with bullying in this school each year in separate occasions and the principles have not effectively followed up in the incidence. Nor communicated with me as the parent on incidents that happened in school.

My son has been attending CMIT South since it opened almost 3 years ago. Currently, he is a 9th grade student and doing extremely well. As a parent, my main focus is providing my son an environment that will prepare him for college and succeeding there and beyond as well. There must be a collaboration between the school, parents, and student to achieve this conducive environment. CMIT South provides this environment with a rigorous curriculum, pushing students to reach their full potential, and providing a disciplined and structured setting for learning to take place. I receive weekly updates on my child's behavior, grades, and if an issue arises I can reach out to a teacher quickly because the school is so small. My son had many options for high school including gaining admission to our science and tech school; however, I chose to keep him at CMIT South because of what it has to offer. The school has an abundance of after school clubs, school sponsored activities, behavior incentives, etc. The test scores are high and continuously increasing. The school has the Information Technology Early College (ITEC) program(a program in conjunction with PGCC where the student will graduate with an associate's degree in information technology and a high school diploma), Project Lead the Way, and College Leadership Preparedness Program. There is a wealth of opportunity for academic growth if that is your goal. It is a charter school so sports are slowly being integrated yearly. I am pleased with my son's growth and excited about the future!!!!!!!!
