HHES is a very special elementary school. Very diverse students. They have several ways to communicate with families with different apps. Teachers are caring & compassionate. Our children are excited to go to school each day to see their friends & favorite teachers. We have a new Principal so we’ll see how the new changes go. There will probably be a lot of hiccups for the first few months.

We’ve had a wonderful experience at Hanover Hill Elementary! The teachers are caring, patient, and dedicated to helping every student succeed. The school provides a safe and welcoming environment where kids are excited to learn each day. Communication with parents is excellent, and there’s a great sense of community. Highly recommend this school to any family looking for a strong academic and social foundation for their child.

I kept my grandchildren from 2022-2024 and they attended Hanover Hills. Their experience was pretty good. I formulated relationships with the teachers and we worked together to make sure our girls had the best experience possible. I will say that we had one who was tested for an IEP and the meeting with that team left a bit to be desired but overall we had a decent experience with school. My girls are in NC now, wishing they could come back to Hanover Hills.

The staff and teachers at the school talk to the kids terribly. I have never seen grown adults who show no compassion or sensitivity to the kids. To say to a child in Kindergarten “Oh this girl must not have any sense” is crazy. The teacher who said this someone who works with the kid in the class that has special needs her job is to guide that student in that class. You would think at least she would know how to be sensitive to children and how you talk to them. The school is always asking for help for different activities they want to have for the teachers but what parent would want to donate to teachers who talk to their kids in a disgusting manner. A lot of the teachers need training or how to communicate with children. Maybe that will help instead of being rude and condescending to the kids and when the parents call to address it they like to put on an act and pretend like the child is misunderstanding. Highly disappointed in my experience with this school and I am counting down the days until my children time at this school is over with.

We moved to Howard County to be in this school district. The teachers are exceptional and they have been teaching there for a few years - not a lot of turnover from what I can see. We have a ton of family events and teachers make learning fun. They have had famous guest speakers that have been remarkable. It’s a new building too. It’s nice the Middle School is right next door, older siblings can walk the younger kids home.

The teachers are wonderful, Ms. Kanter (new VP) and the guidance counselors are great. Mr. Todd is a figurehead. Doesn’t answer parents emails, doesn’t participate in problem solving. The school would be in better shape with Ms. Kanter in the Principal’s chair.

Overcrowded and Overwhelmed. My daughter struggled to keep up in a chaotic classroom with 30+ students and one teacher. She received little support, hindering her learning progress. As a parent, I felt disconnected from her education due to infrequent communication and a lack of guidance on providing essential supplies.

My children have had the absolute worse experience at this school. Being constantly bullied and threatened and the principal does absolutely nothing about it, there is absolutely no communication from him whatsoever. My daughter is afraid to go to school and he brushes her concerns under the rug as if it's no big deal. With every incident that has occurred which involved my kids being bullied and hit by this child, the principal never calls me to inform me, I have to find out through my kids when they come home upset. He excuses the child doing the bullying by saying "his dad isn't in the picture". That is no excuse to allow this type of behavior. I'm so disappointed with our experience at Hanover Hills. As a parent, I have never felt so unheard about my constant worries for my children's safety.

Having lived in Howard County since 2017, this was a newly built Elementary school for Howard County. My son went here for 4th and 5th and my daughter has been here since Kindergarten and will be finishing up 3rd grade this year. I really like Hanover Hills because the teachers and Principal really care about the students and the community. They offer opportunities to sign your children up for different after-school activities. They offer support for those that are falling behind due to the pandemic and starting school online in a virtual environment. The teachers are very responsive to emails. The counselors and nurses keep you informed of anything that is brought to their attention. Haven't had too many issues. On most days, my daughter comes home happy. It really comes down to the child. If they are motivated to do their work and can stay focused on learning, they will strive here. They don't give a ton of homework as they expect kids to finish the work during class but if they don't they have the opportunity to finish it at home. Most of the teachers do a great job of posting the lessons and material they are teaching. Resources for parents are also available on Canvas platform.

I went to this school ever since it opened in 2018 until this year in 2022 when I graduated 5th grade, I have to say this was not a pleasant experience. The teachers were kind of rude and they yelled at us all they time for no reason. I will not list the recess monitors name for privacy purposes but a recess monitor had grabbed my arm for no reason while I was talking to my friend and the vice principal had saw the camera footage and did not do anything about it! No warning to the monitor or nothing. I was basically in the Guidance counselors office at least 2 times a WEEK because of how the teachers treat the students. Honestly, they could have done better with staffing.

Hanover Hills ES has worked out very nicely for our child. He is properly placed to learn at his individual level, and really enjoys going. All of the staff has been incredibly friendly, and the teachers communicate with us AT LEAST on a weekly basis. Overall, our child is learning and enjoying school...What more can you ask?

When my son went to school one day, he told me that one of the teachers took something of his which he worked very hard to work on. They never gave it back and he was very sad. He also told me that the teachers were very mean and rude. He said that he did not like the school at all. I do not recommend this school because of what I have heard.

Our experience has been Kindergarten and First Grade. We feel the school can do better in communicating with parents. Teachers, while seemingly patient and good intentioned, have no time and make no effort to have meetings with the parents (in our experience). We have to reach out via email to attempt to determine progress academically and how things are socially (we appreciate a discussion, not just an uploaded report card with notes). Sometimes (once or twice) we receive a call/reply to our emails, other times it seems like the effort is bothersome and unwanted. Dare we try to be informed, I suppose. The motto they seem to emphasize daily is to be “bold, ambitious, respectful, and kind” - and lately there have been a few days this year where my student doesn’t want to attend school due to “bullying” by other kids and a lack of acknowledgement from the staff. Like they’re too busy or don’t want to hear complaints when the student attempts to speak up for themselves. At least that’s what I draw based on what I’m told. My 1st grader now says she doesn’t trust telling the adults how she feels because they don’t do anything to help. That’s pretty unfortunate.

The good side is the building is new. The PTA activity clubs for students are nice (but would be great if offered year-round). The ability to check out media books is also nice. The K & 1st grade teachers my student is assigned (aside from some seeming very busy, stretched thin, and zero office hours) have been good.

I hope other parents/students can share their great (or not great?) experiences at HHES. With improved communication, quality learning materials, and teachers that receive the necessary supports, I think this school can be rated 8 and 9/10. For us, right now, it’s a 6ish.
