This school caters to rich white families. They do not treat the very few low-income families well. No black teachers or other teachers of other races in this school. Far from diverse. School is 85% white kids. This school pushes students to do well in academics so they can get funding even though the community of millionaires around them dump a bunch of money into the school PTO. The constant testing and high expectations of students causes extreme anxiety for children. This school was built and founded by farmers and blue collar workers before Davidsonville turned into a rich town. It currently is the farthest from what it used to be. Don’t send your kid here unless you want them to suffer from extreme anxiety from ridiculously high expectations.

Principal Hofstetter who recently retired was hands down fantastic. She set the tone for teachers, students, and staff. The current principal has some growing to do.

They do talk about these things and try to teach concepts, but it's confusing for the kids when the administrators' actions don't follow what they teach.

Posted: January 27, 2019

These teachers have been told to act like everything is fine, regardless if your child is struggling. The administrators are not genuine, even though they try to act like they are. The only thing they seem to care about is test scores.

Posted: January 27, 2019

These teachers and administrators have no clue what to look for or how to address learning differences. My child was denied a 504 and an IEP, even after having letters from multiple doctors and paying one of them to attend a meeting. This is a "wait until the child fails" school. They do not believe anything is wrong if your child is able to get decent grades. It seems like the teachers my child has had just pushes them through the system. I've seen As on my child's papers that I can't even read!

My child was bullied on the playground and the teachers were oblivious to it. I've seen what it's like at recess and a lot of times the teachers stand together and talk - they have no idea what's going on. This school says it has a zero tolerance bully policy, but it's not true. Again, they turn a blind eye to it. They do not make the kids feel safe or comfortable talking to administrators when they are bullied. My child was afraid to report it to the teachers because they tell him to stop being a tattle tail and dismiss my child. I know other parents that say the same thing. The teachers do nothing. One parent told me her child was bullied almost every day - they ended up switching schools.

These teachers and administrators are only effective if your child is well behaved and does not have any type of learning difference. They are not trained on learning disabilities and have no idea what to look for. As long as your child gets good grades and is not disruptive in class, they turn a blind eye to any challenges and tell you repeatedly that everything is fine. Several of the good teachers left, leaving the students to struggle even more. The class sizes are huge (30+). There's no way teachers can be effective when that's the case.

If your child fits in, is able to get decent grades, and has no issues, s/he will be fine. This school has no clue how to address students outside of "the norm." One of my children is completely bored in class because he's not being challenged enough and my other child is struggling to make it through the day but isn't doing poorly enough (per the school administrators) to get any help from the school. One teacher told me that they are taught to teach the masses and not to address these "one off" situations. It's completely ridiculous and extremely rustrating. If your child is perfect and has absolutely no challenges or issues, this school is for you! If not, do yourself a favor and send your kids to private school.

My child has dyslexia and recieved no services. He did not qualify for an IEP becuase 'special education is reserved for the worst of the worst' (school psychologist's words).

If your child fits the mold, they will thrive. Any learning differences, they will be left to flounder with no effective interventions offered.

My school is actually very fun while educating at the same time!!! We get 15 minutes of recess and six hours of school time! At the end of 2nd grade, you take a test determining what classes you will be in later (gifted and talented) and the teachers are very nice. I don't think any of us can say any of the teachers are mean. As a fifth grader, I've seen 'em all! I STRONGLY recommend this school.

I have 3 children in DES. All three are doing extremely well and are on the Principal's list. All 3 love their teachers and there is an amazing amount of parental involvement in this school. The community, schools and extracurricular activities like Davidsonville Athletic Association (which shares the School's mascot) have a so much to offer. I'm so happy we moved here and chose this school.

I have a special needs child and am amazed at how clueless the school is in dealing with my child's special needs.

Davidsonville Elementary. My granddaughter attends DE . I feel she is getting a better than average education. The staff and teachers are helpful and concerned. There is a lack of observance of student behavior ie: bullying. And when reported, the staff does not seem to be interested in investigating the incidents. There is a lukewarm concern given to individual reporting. There is a lot of gossip and talk about bullying but no real action or education of teachers and staff. I plead with you to exercise the guidelines that are given to your school on bullying and not ignore them. A concerned grandparent.

Teachers are fantastic, parents are very involved and the speed and complexity at which learning takes place is perfect.
