Honestly, this school really sucks. It’s mostly because of the staff they’re really rude and like to argue with parents. It seems like they almost don’t like their job and only are there just to be there. My children weren’t very welcomed here either.

this school is very unorganized. Kids are vaping in the bathroom and it takes the staff 20 mins or more to notice and when they do catch them they don't even provide a consequence. it is also very unsanitary half of the time there is a half eaten burger on the table and kids are throwing ketchup around. some of the staff are rude to students and blame them without letting them speak as well with the principal she is being rude to hispanic people and nice and patient with black and white people what kind of school is this?. i dont recommend this school at all its horrible.

Colin Powell Academy has horrible leadership. There is no structure or discipline. No consequences for bad behavior. The expectation for the kids in the school is very low. There have been drug overdoses that the administration has not communicated with parents. Kids vape in the bathrooms with no consequences. I would not recommend this school. It may look good out the outside but inside it is horrible. It is an autism designated school and the coordinator is horrible. She doesn’t communicate with parents properly. I have been in the school multiple times with autistic students running around and staff trying to find them. On 2 occasions I have seen an autistic child get out of the school and run around the parking lot, taking Staff 1-2 minutes to realize. Completely unsafe and ridiculous and I’m pretty sure the incident wasn’t communicated to the parents. Until the administration change this school will never do better! They have so many long term subs teaching because teachers are leaving mid year. HORRIBLE!

I went to this school since it came out and I no longer go here because the middle school is not a good place to learn and the principal is not a good principal

This school is very unsanitary. I once got food poisoning from the lunch food. There was also some cardboard in the pizza. I’m not even joking.

Worst school ever staffs beats on the children and the principal dose not take care of problems in the building the correct way I’ve been at this school for three years and it’s only gotten worse I am so glad I’m leaving this place it was never right for me and the handful of staff members need to leave and join a better school and parents do not brush off anything your children say to you and do not support this school I can only hope for better from this place and it’s a shame they tarnish Colin Powells name DO NOT JOIN THIS SCHOOL

This school has minimal experience as an institution. The worst in addressing kids with learning difficulties. Some of the teachers are great, but they were placed in a difficult situation as they need to deal with about 2000 students. They are understaffed.

My son was in honor roll the entire year and at the end of the school year I received a letter informing me he needed to repeat the year. They just gave him good grades and never informed us he was struggling at school.

Every parent I have spoke to they complain about something regarding the school. Simply the worst school I have experienced in the PG county.

Since they've deleted and turned off google reviews... Staff is rude and disrespectful to children. The school is very disorganized sending out information sometimes day of for events. The school is brand new and already dirty. The only reason my child is still at this school is because she is passionate about the sign language program. If you have the means, send your child to a charter or program school. This ain't it!

It's a brand new, multicultural school that really supports parents and helps kids with whatever they need. Plus, they give students awesome resources to use at home.

Communication between the teacher and parent is not the greatest. I was a little concerned in the beginning that my daughter wasn’t being teached correctly but then I noticed that her test scores have consistently been getting better so I’m guessing the teachers are doing their job. I would say that it’s seem that the teachers are unable to control the students. I receive messages everyday asking parents to “please talk to your child”. My daughter enjoys school in general but that’s because shes only 7 and she doesn’t know any better. I think the school is trying but things could def be better.

Classes taught mostly by substitutes or conditional teachers. Administrators, especially the principal, do not have control over the staff or students and is mostly focused on making TikTok videos. Leadership is very dismissive and when you do get them to engage in conversation, becomes very argumentative and defensive. My child and her friends have shared that a male administrator has made them feel uncomfortable. Student schedules are a mess.
