Germantown is a hidden gem in Annapolis. All of the staff is loving and caring, looking out for the students' best interests. There are many ways to get involved with the school, the PTA has a lot of volunteering opportunities. Could not be happier with GES, their faculty & staff!

Very positive. The school rating does not reflect the positive side of the schools character and teaching staff. My kids enjoy each day of learning.

Both of my kids are excelling. Homework is reinforcing weekly lessons.

My daughter is in kindergarten and while students arent given homework to complete and return, parents are encouraged to read daily with their children and practice what the children are learning in school.

We have been very impressed with how much or child is learning from her teachers.

This school spends a lot of time focused on raising students to be worldly and compassionately-focused.

The leadership at this school seems to go above and beyond building relationships with students and their families.

I dont have any first hand experience with bullying but I do know that the school focuses on teaching student about bullying and ways to combat bullying.

My son is in 1st grade and has grown tremendously (academically, emotionally, socially) over the past two years at GES. I was able to spend quite a bit of time in his kindergarten class and was impressed by the implementation of PYP principles and themes in the class and quality of teaching. This continues in 1st grade where students have more leadership opportunities in the school, set academic goals and develop a greater understanding of world cultures. There are numerous resources for students of all academic levels. After school programs are amazing! The school is much smaller than stated here (closer to 600) due to redistricting!

Both of my children have attended Germantown. the staff is great, the principal is warm and caring. For a large school they work hard to give every student an opportunity to shine. Ms. Barrett has been wonderful and has helped my daughter read on grade level and assists in figuring out 10 year old social issues.

As a Title 1 school we receive a great amount of additional support and help.

The biggest issue with leadership is there are too many students and not enough time in the day. The principal and VP are always at the school after hours and often pulled away for meetings. AA county should work on a percentage basis, so many administrators per number of students. The issue has been helped this year with the addition of an admin who assists with behavior issues but the VP should not be spending 6-8 weeks on standardized testing.

I think the diversity of the school lends itself to a higher level of compassion. Every day they talk about respect and integrity. All three characteristics are talked about and incorporated into learning daily.

Most of the teachers my children have had have been wonderful. They are engaging, look for unique ways to get children interacting and encourage my children to do the best they can
Posted: May 9, 2017
Homework is generally not given as just busy work. Students are tasked with practicing what they learned, creating a writing piece or beginning/completing a project they are doing in school

It would be a good school, but the principal K. S. is the worst I've ever worked with both as a parent and as a teacher. She is snarky, rude, all about bureaucracy, extremely inflexible, and has a way of making everybody feel unwelcome. Many active, helpful parents have enrolled their children to different schools because of that reason and that reason only. Too bad, because other than that it's a good school with very good teachers and very good staff - if it wasn't for the principal, I would keep my children in this school.

The teachers at Germantown are an extremely high caliber and are able to manage varying learning levels within one classroom. Both of my students have been advanced and their teachers have challenged them throughout their educational experience.

We do not have much homework, which I appreciate in elementary school. I don't think it's a necessity, but what is given is appropriate.

Both of my sons have received a great education at our local neighborhood school, Germantown. It's been a fantastic experience for them because they have had great teachers, a strong International Baccalaureate program (IB - it's been in place for 5 years), great extra curricular opportunities, small class sizes and diversity. We have incredible resources at GES, partially because we receive Title I funds that enable more support in each classroom. I truly believe the diversity of our school has given my kids a better understanding of the world around us, and hopefully more compassion. As far as classroom size, we have not had an issue with this. My kids have always had classes in the mid-20's or below.

For my 4th grader, it amounts to 15 minutes max and 20 minutes of reading/night. I think this is good. I feel since the kids are in school all day, they should relax and play when they get home and not bogged down with homework.

My oldest daughter spent 1st - 5th grades at Germantown. She always had a great teacher at every grade level. She was challenged, too, especially in 5th grade in order to prepare her for middle school. My youngest daughter is in 4th grade and has been with Germantown since kindergarten. She, too, has had great teachers each year. The Principal is very involved and builds an atmospher of love and respect. She supports the arts, advanced learning, and, of course, IB. It is a well-rounded school which balances and honors diversity.

Germantown with PYP International Baccalaureate program, dedicated principal and outstanding staff is a great place to learn and grow. The schools second language is Italian, where even parts of morning announcements are said in Italian! In 3rd grade students can choose to play string instruments, in 4th and 5th addition to stings also wind instruments with band for advanced students. Choir is available for 4th and 5th graders. PTA and parent volunteers are very active and support the school with many fun activities, like field trips, wellness activities, walks to school, tasting events, winter rumpus evenings, movie nights, international nights and so on. My children have a great group of friends they play with outside after school and will go to middle school together!

I have been a parent at GES for 7 years. If my children did not have to leave the school, they wouldn't. The teachers are great and the principal is very attentive to the needs of the students, parents and staff. Overall, I give GES A+++++.

My daughter has been going to Germantown Elementary School since Kindergarten and I think it is a wonderful school. She has learned so much since being at Germantown. Mr. Reap does an excellent job as Principal. He really cares about the students and their families and ensuring that students excel in their education. My daughter is now in the 3rd grade and I really like her teacher Mrs. DeWalle. This school is a hidden gem in Annapolis and deserves a 5 star rating!

We have nothing but great things to say about GES... Our girls are in there second year there, attending 3rd and 5th grades. Their tracers are super attentive, the principal is amazing and hard working (he knew my girls by first name within 4days of attendance). There is a awesome sense if pride and community at this school, the PTA is super strong and parental involvement adds a warm and welcoming feeling at events. I fell they do an amazing job of utilizing their Title 1 dollars in providing enrichment for the students. I would, and do recommend GES to anyone and everyone!

Our experience at Germantown has been great. I am very happy that we decided to give it a try. I have two kids there currently, one in kindergarden and one in fourth grade. The transition was seamless and my kids are both happy and thriving there. Academically, I feel their math curriculum is excellent, and generally speaking, they are very willing to work with your child to make sure the learning is conducted so as to optimize their abilities. It is also wonderful to be a part of a community school and have my kids' friends in the neighborhood. The staff is wonderful and just as caring as any I encountered in the private school they were attending. I would highly recommend it to any parents considering making the switch
