I have 2 children at FGES and we have had nothing but a wonderful experience. The PTA is active and plans a lot of fun events like parent/child dance, Lego club, Talent shows etc. The teachers are amazing and caring.The administration keeps everyone informed and responds quickly and professionally. Parents are encouraged to volunteer in the cafeteria during lunches and as class parents. The playground is awesome and my children are outside frequently. We paid for private school for my oldest but the quality of his education and experience is so much better at FGES. Very pleased!!!

A prison... children rarely go outside for recess (too cold, too wet, too busy, too bad) and at lunch the children are forced to be quiet. They have a cup rating system at lunch. If they are too loud a green cup on their table is switched with a red cup. In addition, every time a class leaves the cafeteria (and it is frequent), all of the students must raise their hand and be quiet. The students are not allowed to turn around and speak to children at other cafeteria tables. Lunch time should be a free period that reduces stress and builds bonds of friendship and community. Instead children are afraid to be yelled at. I volunteered in the cafeteria and the Principal reprimanded me for giving a child a high five. Parents are discouraged from visiting the school during the day for functions. There are evening functions that parents are invited to attend. Bottom line, there is no joy at this school, no sense of community and the administration is dour. I would encourage the administration to visit other elementary schools.

While I do believe that FGES has a lot of potential, until the district removes the principal it will never be a positive school environment. We have two children in the district, our middle schooler went to PMES and had a phenomenal experience and superior academics. Sadly FGES does very little to create a friendly inspiring learning environment for the students. The principal has zero personality and doesn't interact with the students nor the parents. I'd be surprised if she even knows the names of 1/8 of her student body. It's sad that HCPS would even place an individual like this in an elementary school. Very sad bc there are so many highly capable leaders that would be more deserving of the position.

Our family loves Fountain Green Elementary. We moved to Harford County as our DD was entering second grade. We had concerns regarding our DD's progress in K and 1st grade, but her previous school dismissed our concerns and her progress reports indicated no issues. Based on entry tests, FGES validated our concerns and immediately conducted additional testing that concluded our DD suffers from ADHD and dyslexia. An IEP was quickly put in place. Our DD's second grade year is drawing to a close and we have been very impressed with the interventions FGES implemented and the committed and experienced teachers that execute them. Most importantly, we're happy with the results we're seeing from our DD. We are disappointed to read negative comments about our principal, Dr. Gerringer, because we have been supremely impressed by her. She is professional, knowledgeable, assured, confident, and assertive all traits that make her a great leader in our opinion. We are also very impressed with the parent involvement and the strength of the PTA. FGES is truly a great school!

my child was at FGES, but it was not good. The principal minimizes problems at the school and is dismissive of independent thought by parents. She dresses like a young girl seeking attention.

Our family moved out of NJ in October of last year. Needless to say, we entered the community, and hence the school, late, with little knowledge, and concerned about schooling. We sent 1 to K and 1 to 5th grade. Fountain Green was SO well organized and socialized that the teacher created a project for the kids in how to orient our kids for school. Mind you, NJ's schools are pretty good, however I noticed that that Fountain Greens cirriculum was @ 6 months AHEAD of the NJ school we had to leave behind! For the school year, our kids showed both an interest and ability in school not seen ever. Even though we were there just 9 months, there were tears when summer came. (Tears for summer ?!?!)

I jus had to share this with the school. We were at the "Dig It" program last evening. What a treat to see all of those children involved in a program that was done so well. You all have not only a lot of talented children, but the music instructors and all of the other staff and parents that helped with this program, were fantastic and you can tell how dedicated they are. Thank you for such an enjoyable evening. We attended with our Grand-daughter's Dad, and Uncle. Please feel free to share this with all. My children have done well academically at Fountain Green Elem. Many of my children's teachers have been caring professionals. The Principal is not helpful or forth coming towards parents in regards to conflict resolution or special education. She is sometimes hostile. She often dresses in tight fitting, short dresses and high heels. The school is inconsistent in meeting the needs of children with food allergies. Allergy safety has been a concern and ongoing issue. There have been a couple of teachers that were inconsistent with home work, parent communication, and following food allergies protocals. The PTA is cliquey and focuses on fund raising.

My husband and I think that Fountain Green is a fantastic school for our children and they love going to school! The professional staff is strong and caring, and the administration always puts students and their safety and academics first. At a Back to School night, a presentation was given to the parents showing us all the wonderful things that have happened In the past three years; the test scores in math and reading have gone through the roof. And, if anyone remembers, the building was not that clean a few years ago. The building is now clean and beautiful. There have also been little extras added like live piano music for the children to enjoy when they arrive in the morning and the opportunity for students to participate in a musical. We also appreciate all of the notifications which let us know that the safety of our children is foremost. Not sure why some of the other reviews have focused unfairly on Ms. Gerringer. We have found that she has been nothing but a professional and strong leader who advocates for the safety and academic success for the students at Fountain Green. Her leadership along with the rest of the staff has made Fountain Green a great school!

The school is nice with a great set of teachers. The adminstration does make it more difficult for parents to be involved. Children do not seem to be the priority, but flexing control over parents does. If it were not for the great teachers and active PTA; this school would drop quickly in rating. Hopefully the adminstration will listen to parents and see them more as partners in the children's education.

The teachers are great as is the PTA and parent involvement. The current principal, however, is the worst ever. Rude, fake and rigid are the words that come to mind. The principal came to this school with a chip on her shoulder and has poisoned the environment for all. I will rejoice upon my child's matriculation to middle school!
