Thee most caring and educated staff in the county. A very present and visible principle. My children feel safe and cared for here at Deerfield. They love their teachers current and former.
The education they receive is high quality. My children are excited to go to school each day and look forward new ways their teachers incorporate fun into their work day.
The staff is great with communication and community involvement. They are always meeting the students and parents where they are and match their needs. I couldn't ask for a better school.

I have yet to find a teacher at that school that takes the time to make the students better. They give a ridiculous amount of homework and I struggle to figure out what it is they do all day. Why do they need multiple hours of homework after a 7 hour day?????

Posted: September 13, 2016

we have a 1st grader and kindergartner and they receive multiple hours of way too hard homework. They are teaching things to those kids that couldn't possible know and retain. This school is becoming a joke.

This school is so awful it is hard for me to keep calm as I write this. The pick-up and drop-off processes are a joke and they are dangerous. some of the parents that drive their children to school should be reprimanded. They speed through the parking lot and cut people off that have taken the time to come early to wait and do the right thing. that is just the beginning.

Then the childrens day starts around 9 am and they get picked up at 4 pm. That is a full 7 hour day then they are all sent home with multiple hours of homework. This is just killing these kids. that is roughly 9 hours a day of straight school work and they are in Kindergarten and 1st grade! What are these people that run this school thinking?

I have a 4 year bachelors from a Division One University and didn't have days that long. When do these kids have time to be kids? By time we get everything done including dinner and getting them bathed it is almost 8 at night! Then the cycle begins again the next day. This is outrageous and makes no sense to me.

This school is terrible. They try to make it seem as if everything is okay when parents are around but in all actuality when the doors close it is a different story. My child has told me horrific stories about what goes on in that building and last year has even been beat up by another student there. When I spoke to the assistant principal about it she told me that the other student was not suspended because he was special ed. Fast forward to american education week, i saw this child in action and he definitely knows right from wrong and should have been suspended. If i could send my child to another school I would. This is not the place to send your children.

My child has has been bullied, choked, and stabbed in the hand with a pencil, among other incidents at this school. There are kids that throw chairs in the classroom, and yell obscenities at the teacher. I am tired of hearing story after story of what my poor 7 year old daughter has to put up with there!

Both of my daughters attend Deerfield and we simply love this school! We have had fantastic teachers and the low class size is a big advantage. My daughters both are top of their classes and their test scores are easily above the state average because of the great teaching they receive. My girls get Art, Gym three times a week, Library, and Music. There is an IPad lab in their classroom. They both bring home a variety of projects that are very cool. The homework isn't overwhelming, but there is a lot of it. The girls go on field trips, stay for evening activities, and they love Lunch Bunch with their teachers once every 2 weeks. Because the school has recently been re-zoned, only children who live on the peninsula attend here, making the environment lovely. We've never encountered any bullying what so ever. Dismissal and morning drop off are very organized. Everyone knows us and the communication is great. It's a great neighborhood school.

Love, love, love this school! Don't believe the hype surrounding the Edgewood area. Great community with great people. You get what you give in life. Good parents have good kids. This school has a first class morning drop-off routine. The teachers are awesome.

My daughter started 4th grade this school year at Deerfield and she LOVES it. I love the friendliness and helpfulness from the staff. My daughter is coming from another school so I was scared that it would be hard for her to adjust but it wasn't. The kids are and fun and so are the teachers. Every week she comes home with her learning plan and I must say I am impress. Thumbs up.

My son will start second grade this fall. He loves this school. The staff has been great, his teachers so far have been wonderful. Communication from the school is generally very good. Communication from his teachers has been excellent. Dropping off kids in the morning seems more orderly than dismissal, but there are 800+ students! The curbside service in the morning when dropping off a car-rider is very nice! Side notes about comments: Everyone is entitled to their opinion(s). That is what these boards are for. If your post looks and sounds like it was written by an elementary school student or a texting teenager, it is hard to take it seriously. Sorry if that is offensive, but if you want people to take your comment(s) seriously please make it intelligible. Sorry for the rant.

I used to think that this school is not that bad even though the test scores never met the state standards. Then we moved and saw wht does it feel to be in a school that actually meets the standards. THIS IS THE ONLY SCHOOL THAT did not check at dismissal as which child is going to which parent. then just go volunteer during the lunchtime and you will know what am I talking abt. when ur kid asks for the restroom, they will be asked to hold. if there's a kid crying and needs to go to the nurse, she will be ignored. if ur kid opens his dorrittos and mrs warfield hears a pop then there u go her eyeballs are gng to give tht poor kid nightmares for DAYSSS. THE PRINCIPLE is full of her self , just read her newsletters u will read 2 pages abt herself with hardly a page wbt the school. PTA is non-existent. your child's word work is scheduled at the end of the day when all of their energy is drained. other schools have it at the beginning of the day when ur child mind is the most active.I have literally seen kids fighting and bullying almost everyday in this school!!
