My daughter goes to this school and is thriving! We love the staff, they go out of their way to reach out and check in on the well being and academic growth students are making. Middle school is such a difficult time for students, but with supportive staff like this, it makes it more manageable.

I hate this school. It has a gender bias and it hates boys but likes girls and girls can literally get away with anything. So many kids have been caught vaping, fighting, and are just being jerks. Also so many teachers just don't do anything and the school has the most brain dead rules like how sometimes if one of the people who have more power will just be like "we are going to make you come and shadow your kid for the day and you have to and we don't care if you can't or if your job won't allow it." also the administrators are brain dead and they just don't have to work and when they do they just have to make the most idiotic rules in the world.

Both my daughter and son have gone to WLMS since the renovation. Both kids were able to have GT classes with excellent educators. Middle school is the most difficult time for kids but the teachers and administrators are acutely aware of what is going on with the kids and know them all by name and in most cases when necessary, also know the parents. I’ve been very impressed with the way they handled a couple encounters where my son had issues with bullying. They immediately dealt with any problems and offered to set up meeting between me and the other child’s parent (which ended up not being necessary.) I see some reviews about bullying and that sits with individual children. It’s how the teachers and principals handle it that matters. It is not tolerated here. As a parent you can be as involved as you like. Ultimately, we as parents can make a real difference in supporting our kids and the people who are with our children 35+ hours a week.

I could not reccomend this school any less, and I heavily suggest enrolling in private school. I am a recent alum who has siblings going here, and man its awful. The students fight and leak and spread their nude pictures, cyberbullying accounts are made everyday on instagram to harass one person, one of them having harrassed someone to the mental hospital, and the staff do absolutely nothing. They suspend the students, but the students don't care and neither do their parents, so they come back and do all the things they were doing again. I never learned a single thing at this poor excuse of a school. If you want your child to mature into a great and successful person, don't send them here.

The building looks nice but it's super trashy. Kids vaping in the absolutely filthy bathrooms, the rudest teachers who literally could not care about any of their students, and lackluster faculty all lead to a horrible experience for me, my sister, and all my friends. There are daily fights, literally one within the first week of school for the 2022-2023 school year. The faculty could not care about resolving the actual problems within their school, and instead decide to worry about whether or not students have Starbucks when they walk in, like a sizeable portion of their students aren't literally being sent to mental hospitals for extended periods of time.
One of the view good things about this school is the staff's views on the dress code, as it's very rarely enforced and not once have I ever had to consider the dress code when deciding what I would wear for the day.

I do not recommend to send your child to WLMS, sure, the new building is nice, but the people aren't that great. I know that there are constantly fights and things like that and the teachers just send them to the office and the principal only gives them an in-school suspension or they suspend them for 2 days and they keep doing the same thing over and over again. And the students are so disrespectful to teachers and other students. For example they always talk back to teachers and when the student is doing something annoying and the teacher tells them to stop they don't listen and they talk back and all the teacher does is tell them to step outside and then the teacher comes outside and talks to the student for like 2 minutes then they come back in. And the teachers are dumb af they always give detention for no reason. One day i was 5 SECONDS late to math and the teacher gave me detention for 15 minutes which is HALF the lunch period. I'm forced to go to this school because my parents said I have the choice to go to a private school but I hate private schools so i'm stuck here. Parents, please be careful.

My daughter is a 6th grader at the school and is having a great experience. The principal is AWESOME and there are lots of great teachers. They have a very strong music/arts program and many other after school enrichment programs. They are moving into their new Net Zero school building this year which will provide the kids with a one of a kind learning environment! We love it!

The school is way to small for every kid to go through the hallway when its time to go the next class. Some times the food id under cooked. That school is dangerous. Its too much fighting. And the principal does nothing. And the teachers just sit there and sends kids to the office. We don't even learn anything. WLMS is not a good school

I read the review posted below on July 27, 2014 and wondered for a minute if I wrote it. That was exactly our experience and now we are now sending our child to private school for 7th & 8th grades despite living in Howard County with this "wonderful school system". In my opinion, the primary issue was a total lack of leadership. The principal was as unengaged as any I have come across. She did not attend school events, return phone calls, or get involved when issues came up. She has no business being in this role. With a strong leader, many of the issues at WLMS could be overcome. I'd be interested to see statistics on how many kids start at WLMS and leave for private school. I feel badly for the kids who do not have the option to leave.

I would not advise sending your child to this school if you have any choice in the matter. It is a dangerous place where my son was bullied and nothing was done about it even after written complaints and a filed report. Part of the problem is about 40% of the student population, which is a rough, violent crowd that is not or cannot be controlled by the staff. The other problem is that most teachers have given up on the students. My son will be going to a private school after 7th grade so that he can catch up, recover, and be ready for high school. I never felt that my son was safe at WLMS. It was a very stressful environment for him.

I like Wilde Lake Middle School I can't wait to go there yes I'm a 5th grader who is going to Wilde lake soon. Although You have to take 7 classes it's awesome. Wilde Lake Middle School is unique that's what I really like about it . Another school you may like is Running Brook Elementary School.

Go to the test scores tab above and look at the 6th grade and 8th grade scores. You will see the trend of score decreasing as children matriculate through this school. This downward trend from start to finish says it all. The staff is too worried about controlling bad behavior and if your child is a minority, watch out ---he/she will automatically be "labelled" as a trouble-maker (demonstrating the lazy-minded mentality of the administration -- who ironically are minorities themselves). I had my son transferred (after fighting for 2-years) to Clarksville Middle School and have found the learning environment to be the polar opposite of WLMS. The byproduct of spending nearly 3-years at WLMS is that he is now FAR behind his peers at CMS (but at least we escaped Alcatraz). Glad that WLMS is now in my rear view mirror...don't make a mistake and fail to research this school (unfortunately like I did, relying solely on the reputation of Howard County). I may have to reclassify my son back to the 8th grade due to the academic "damage" done by having him in this horrible and "radioactive" learning environment.

WLMS is an underrated school, particularly for kids who take lots of GT classes. Teachers are excellent and dedicated, on the whole. Sure, there are a lot of students in the school who get subsidized lunches, but it will certainly not hurt more privileged kids to meet classmates who were not as fortunate. We know of several parents who opted to pay for private school because they were afraid of the school's reputation for discipline problems. In our experience, that was a waste of money. WLMS provides a good education in a safe environment.

I am a parent of a student that will be progressing to high school from WLMS this year. I love Wilde Lake. The teachers and administration really care about the children. There have been some social issues just like in other schools; however, they were all immediately addressed. My daughter did very well at this school, and the diversity is awesome. I see the Great School score is a 6 and this is based mainly on standarized testing. Now, that's another topic of discussion by many. My child, as well as her friends did quite well at this school and their test scores were above average. We are preparing for WLHS in the fall. I believe that WLMS gave her what she needed to be ready for high school and layed the foundation for college in 4 years. This school is not a bad choice. Raise your children at home, and stay involved with the administration and your child will do great at WLMS.
