The new secretary at this is a joke.
Both of them are so rude answer the phone. Like why they even paying them to be the first responder for this school??
She is so rude flick her finger to come in like she is a boss. She doesn't say a word to greet making grumpy face like she has a problem and want to fight.
She should get trained again.

This year has been a challenging year for my child. We requested meetings with the school a few times and we discussed the plan on how we could work together in helping my child excel. Once the communication line issue was addressed, I corresponded with my child teacher on a regular basis. I believe the teachers commitment to her student meant everything to this year's experience.

I am so glad we are moving. The school was AMAZING with Mr. Gruber as the principal, but now that AACPS moved him the school has gone downhill very quickly. This school district cares very little for military families and it shows in the lack of support to schools on Ft. Meade.

They don’t typically give out homework. Great for parents, but then rising 5th graders aren’t ready for the LOAD of work that comes with 6th grade.

If Mr. Gruber was still there the answer would be strongly agree. The current principal is absent. I’ve been to every school function and she is never, ever around. It’s as if she is actually avoiding contact with parents. My son has no idea who she is. Ann Arundel County Public Schools takes the good teachers and administrators and sends them on the richer schools, leaving the military schools left out.

I relocated mid school year. This school is by far the best elementary school my son has attended. He is on his way to 6th grade next year! My son was on an IEP but being at Manor View for only 5 months, his academic, behavioral and social growth has shown a huge difference. He is no longer on an IEP! I love the teachers and Mr. Gruber for being so compassionateand hands on with the kids! Sad to know Mr. Gruber is leaving for another school. I know the kids will miss him a great deal.

Overall, AMAZING. When we need to move, it's going to be a little sad. My son has grown so much and received so much support at this school, it'll be hard for any other school to compete.

My son is in the 3rd grade and they have monthly black-out sheets as their homework, so instead of overloading the kids with homework every single night, they have simple assignments for the month that encourage parental involvement.

My son LOVES his teacher this year. There is a wide variety of teacher-types at this school across the spectrum from very strict to not so much, and I feel like my son's teacher this year is exactly right!

My son has combination ADHD w/ Autism Spectrum Disorder and has received nothing but TOTAL support from the teachers, principal, and staff at the school. It has been an amazing year.

Coming from Florida schools manor view has been such a wonderful reprieve. The teachers and staff have all been amazing. Any issues are addressed immediately and staff is always available to help

My children are not loaded down with homework every night, nor do they never have any for additional practice of skills. Its a very happy medium.

As a military family we have been to 3 elementary school in 5 years time. Manor view has had the most responsive, effective teachers we have. My kids love them and the class sizes are smaller, making the teacher/child relationship more effective. They get to know your child

The principal is very proactive and gets to know all of his students and parents. He makes an effort to interact with you each time you enter the school

When we came from Florida my son was behind and needed services they were not following his iep. I had him repeat 1st grade at manor view. Theybheld an iep meeting before he started and by 2nd grade he was on honor roll and graduated from his speech services. Currently 4th grade and continuous honor roll and no services.

I have had a good experience overall this school year. My childs teacher Ms. LaCovey is awesome; she is very understanding and patient. You can tell her years of experience resonate in how she deals with each child. I have been fortunate to have her as my childs teacher and hope that my other child will have the opportunity to be in her class as well. The principal seems engaged with the students so I have no complaints there. The only issue I have had is with my childs art teacher. I have observed her on several occasions and she does not interact with the students very much at all. She was very nit-picky with my childs grade throughout the year with little to no expectation. I worked with my child on the "issues" she claimed were the reason that their grade was not as high as it could be, and every time it was something new and unfounded. It felt as though she was just grading children as she fit to do so based on her personal feelings of the child. The rest of the front office staff and teachers I dealt with were very reasonable and understanding.

The school has a code of conduct where students learn a SOAR pledge- Safe, Organized, Accountable, Respectful. Each day, students start their day "Soaring." If they do a great gob, they go to "wow". If they've been given 2 or more warnings, students need to "reflect" on their behavior. Expectations are rules are simple and consistent.

Teachers set high expectations for the students and are more than happy to discuss any concerns and answer questions. There were a lot of staff changes last year along with a new principal. There are many after school clubs, a strong music/arts program, and an IB program where students are even learning Mandarin. I am impressed with all the great things that have happened in the past 2 years. Everyone seems happy to be there and want to do what is best for students. It would be nice to see more parents attend PTA Meetings.

This is the worse school my kids have ever ever been in. The front office staff were nasty to the parents. Going through so many different principles is so unbelievable it's not even funny. If you don't hang out with the teachers after school and party with them they are very rude to you and your child.
Both my kids were straight A students and when we moved and after testing at their new school we learned my girls were a year and half behind in learning. My oldest daughter got bullied so bad I had to quit my job because these girls would follow my kids to my house. I brought it to the school and the school board and they didn't do anything about it and told me kids will be kids. This child told my oldest to should kill herself. They were in 3rd grade. My oldest daughters first day of kindergarten the school lost 2 kids. How do you lose two kindergartens? They us to call the mp's to help locate these kids. So many people pulled their kids out to homeschool or moved off base to a better school. I was getting my kids one day after school the principle was telling a mother should could never set on school property again and if she did she would be arrested and she would have to stand across the street in the mornings and after school to wait for her child.

Manorview has been a good spot for all three of my kids. One has high functioning autism, and has had an amazing teacher each of her three years here. My son struggles with being bored, but his teachers have been good to challenge him and expect his best. My youngest just started this year here as well, and has an amazing teacher who has picked up on some issues that she has and is helping get them addressed. Mr. Gruber is a good principal who leads from the front. He is the one welcoming the kids in the morning at the car drop off and is outside and available to any parent after school. He addresses concerns professionally and has really done a great job taking over the school when the last principal left and took 1/3 of the teachers two years ago. Honestly, I think the school is even better than before. There are some amazing after school clubs for the kids to get involved in, the music program is excellent, and the school is small enough that everyone knows everyone. My ONLY compliant is that there is no gifted and talented program.

Teachers have to want to be IB teachers and undergo additional training in order to teach at a IB-PYP school. They know how to foster creative thinking in their students. I was grateful for my daughters 5th grade teacher last year. My daughter was disruptive at times due some anxiety issues, but they were handled professionally and my daughter still was able to excel in school.

Teachers and support staff are awesome! They are open to any idea that may make the school better! Mr Gruber (the new principal) has energized the school. It is an International Baccalaureate Pre-Years Program School and the only one on post that is. If you graduate the 5th grade here, you are automatically enrolled in the Middle Years Program at MacArthur Middle School. Otherwise you would have to enter the magnet school selection program. I strongly encourage you to look into the school and ask current parents. The facility is older, but they are in the middle the planning process for rebuilding. Teacher quality matters more, to me, than building quality. The facilities are adequate, but the quality of the education is tremendous. Your children will learn Mandarin and play an instrument if they so desire. The art teacher is amazing.

The school wide system of behavior intervention is confusing, to say the least. There was some sort of eagle feather reward system. But, it never made sense to myself or my kids. There should be something simple and concise in place. Student behavior is out of control. One walk down the hallways during school hours will reveal the fact that the teachers have very little control of their classrooms. Usually, this indicates little administrative support in addition to poor teacher training. Children should be built up and encouraged. They should be inspired by positive adults that ensure a safe environment for them at school each day. This vital aspect of any public school is sadly missing at MVES.

The school building is old and unkempt. I went to have lunch with my daughter, and she was seated with two other female students. One of the students was extremely loud, unfiltered and had not clue about "personal space". These were the TWO students that my child had to sit with every single day. My daughter is social, personable, interactive, polite, and creative. All of these traits were being completely stifled. The school was dirty - hallways dusty and cobwebs, bathrooms very filthy. I checked in on my daughter as she had to use the facilities during lunch. I saw that the sink was stuffed with dirty brown paper towels. There was no soap to wash hands, anyway. I didn't get a sense of "school community" here. No sense of pride in school community from parents OR teachers OR administrative staff and therefore no sense of pride in students. I pulled my two kids out of by the fifth week of school! As a public school educator, I support public education! However, it was obvious that the less-than-stellar staff and incompetent admin at MVES would do more harm than good for students. Don't waste your time, if you are thinking about sending your kids here.

I attended Manor View Elementary as a fifth-grade student from 2000-2001. Though I can't speak for the current curriculum or teachers (a quick look at their website told me that none of my teachers are there any longer), but I would like to speak to the school's unusual set-up, which it appears is still being used. I was told while attending that the cubicle-style pod architecture was a popular design in the 1970's, but I've yet to see it elsewhere. It took some time to get used to. The classrooms were very small as a result. And with the combination of four classrooms worth of noise, it could get distracting. Especially if another class was watching a video. However, it did mean that it made inter-class collaboration a lot easier; at the time, I switched classrooms daily for science, math, and social studies, which were taught by other teachers. If your child has a hard time focusing with a lot of noise, Manor View might not be the best learning environment for them. Personally, I liked my teachers, but like I said, none of them are there anymore.

My son has been at Manor View for 3 years and has loved it. We were here with both principals and Mrs. O'Shea is absolutely amazing. The entire atmosphere at the school changed when she arrived. She is very approachable and you can be sure that when you go to her with a grievance that it will be addressed. The guidance counselor, Ms. Wallace, is also incredible. Each teacher that my son has had is above bar. They do a wonderful job of instilling a love of learning, not just teaching for a test. They are also very easy to get in contact with. We are sorry to be leaving here.

My daughter went to Manor View for 2 years and we absolutely loved it. The principal was everything the other posters have mentioned and it was definitely a great day for Manor View when she was removed. I loved how involved the teachers were with my daughter. Despite moving half the world away we miss Manor View. The teachers at this school (especially the art teacher) are the only reason I'd even consider moving back to Fort Meade.

This is our first year at this school and I have 2 kids here. The new principle is great and we have wonderful teachers for both kids. They have been involved in science, music, and art programs. It is really unfortunate that the rating is so low for this school because of the past principle. This school will start the new IB program next year and already has STEM. People really should not rate a school based on the office staff. That has nothing to do with the learning environment.

It is a great day for Manor View teachers and families. The principle has finally been removed from the school. Too bad so many teachers had to give up their jobs for this to happen. Next year should be a much better school year with teachers not being bullied by administration.

Having had children at this school for 6 years I can completely agree with the newest comments. The principal is rude and like to bully not only the teachers but the parents and students as well. The custodian (daytime) in my opinion has TOO much interaction with the children, does not clean the school as his job description says and is buddy buddy with the principal. I don't know how a principal like this has not been replaced, by now. Having concerns when there that the principal wasn't in agreement with me, I was banned from the school and school property and told I would be arrested if I crossed the boundaries! All this for what I believed was inappropriate behavior of a staff member with the students. I will say my children had the greatest teachers there, but they were limited with what they could do because they had to "teach to the book" and at MSA time the stress put on teachers and children was ridiculous, all to make the principal look "good". Fort Meade does NOT need this principal. Our kids go through enough every day having one or two parents in the military. Their lives are changing day to day and school should be a place where they should feel happy about going.

Monor View Elementary school is a good school they have some good teachers and they believe in working with the students, however the women in the front office are the worst, they are always mean and have attitudes. If you come up to visit your children they give you the third degree and the school is suppose to have an open door policy. Today i went to the school to get work for my child because she is sick, i was told to wait for the teacher to come to the front to see me but when the teacher came to the front she told me she was waiting on me and that she told the office to send me down, so they wasted 30 mins of my time and my childs teacher time

First of all if you have the option in school do not choose this one. This is the WORST school I have ever been too. The principle likes to "bully" the teachers. The learning environment is horrible. You can tell the teachers don't want to be there because they get no help or respect from administration. The fact that they only have 15 minutes for recess is ridiculous. Children should be able to have time to relax and play. The head custodian is rude and talks to the children inappropriatly and gets away with it. These issues have been brought to the school board but nothing has been done. The principle has been there for 8 years and the quility of the school and learning has gone down. The best thing for the school would be to get an entire new administration that respects teachers, staff, parents, and students and doesn't micro manage every aspect of the day.

If you receive a letter saying the cost of something is $10, and students are to pay $4 by a certain date, and there are others items listed the same way, do you: A. believe the amont due by the date is a partial payment, to avoid straining paren'ts finances because there were several things they wanted paid for all close together? B. figure that you only had to pay the amount by the due date, that whole 'item cost' thing isn't relavant. Wrong! It's B. Mentioning the item cost is completely irrelavant to the paragraphs, indeed, the whole paper, and one is to use their phychic powers to see that funding picked up the $6, as they do not mention it. This is the sort of obtuse reasoning and grammar issues you will deal with at Manor View. I recommend calling to make sure they said what they meant.

PTA money is spent on skate nights, the accelerated reader program, eagle feather prizes (incentives to help with behavior), books for classrooms and the media center, the holiday party, parent involvment like mom's and muffins and dad's and donuts and next year parent presentations, ice cream socials, end of the year activity, 5th grade promotion activites, enrichment assemblies, some funding for guidance to spend for families in need, teacher appreciation, science fair boards, and prizes for various other incentives throughout the year (and more). Come to the PTA meetings to help determine what the money is spent on--your PTA membership gives you a voice and the right to vote (which is why we encourage families to join and get involved).
