The principal has 0 control over the school, the 2 female assistant admin do the best they can to try to get clarity and handle issues but.... Mr.Smart is "Mr.Community" yet he is pushy, rude, and pompeous when having to handle matters with him. They're is constant bullying and fights all the time, students who never had issues before middle school being dragged into altercations. There is a particularly nasty old verbally abusive teacher in 6th grade who speaks down to the kids and makes snide comments regularly. Other teachers ignore emails from parents and delay in grading so you never really understand if your child is missing work or not. Just be prepared for never ending list of issues if your child is going to attend this school. The principal will give you a huge false Impression at orientation and it will leave you so insanely disappointed after. This is also partly HCPSS's fault. They need to provide better security and security cameras for the school. They need to give the support that is so OBVIOUSLY needed yet they only seem to care about cutting positions and taking away from the schools. This school needs SECURITY and a change in leadership ASAP!!!!!

This school has been hell I feel like after the other principal left before we can the new one has been making school worse. "We do not do group punishments" they shall while we all get in trouble because of 2 or 3 dumb kids. Also some of the teachers are treated unfairly and deserve better. This school is trash and I cannot wait until I leave for high school soon.

My daughter attended this school and was a hard working, well behaved, cooperative student who was always very respectful to teachers. However teachers were absolutely terrible to her bullying and isolating her in class. Teachers were also very rude and nasty to my husband and I at I.E.P meetings by ignoring us not speaking to us not even looking at us and talking among themselves making disparaging remarks about our daughter insulting her and disrespecting her right in front of us as if we were not even there and not allowing us to say a word. The lying and gaslighting were infuriating. This is a BAD school.

There are furries in my school. If you don't know what that is its basically a HUMAN dressed or acts like an ANIMAL. They have ears, tails, paws, and barks or meows. This is a BIG DISTRACTION to people like me. I feel uncomfortable near them. One time I walked past this human cat and she was crawling on the floor with paws. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SCHOOL!!!!!:):):(:(

This school has good teachers and staff but manly a good chunk of students cause fights and are distractions.

My experience at Patuxent Valley Middle School was not okay. Bathroom doors were gone, there was writing on the walls, there was some blood in the bathroom floor after fights. Students don't respect each other and some of my teachers ended up leaving PVMS because they got treated unfairly.

Violence, and administrative and teaching incompetence will result in having your child come out of this school fully unprepared for high school. They welcomed my son as a higher achiever and now he lost interest in school and struggle to go to school every day. Reason - constant violence and in action by the school leadership. My son is a current student and he has been there from 6 grade. I can't wait to get him out of there.

This school is a good school, however the students give this place a bad rep. My experience with this school was terrible. At least 80% of the students are very rude, extremely disruptive to the school community, and lack seriousness about their education, and only care about being "popular," (apparently in order to become "popular" you have to argue w/ teachers for no reason, get into physical or verbal fights with other student over the most vaguest reasons, lack decorum and sensibility, while also failing school miserably). Some teachers, administrators/other staff treat the students poorly, but the rest are good people. There are frequent fights between students, which staff fail to control most of the time. The food is regularly overcooked or under cooked, and the portions given aren't enough (some students get way more food, while others get way less). The school accumulates a lot of dirt/trash because of the students normalizing littering, which sometimes gets out of hand (especially in the classroom desks and the bathrooms). Whatever you do, I do not recommend letting your kid come to this school.

My experience at pvms has been honestly pitiful so far. The worse part is that some students are genuinely wonderful people but the bad ones stick out so much and make the experience so terrible itÂ’s hard to get by. With the very frequent physical and verbal fights going on left and right, vandalization of the building, and hostility from everyone (students, teachers, administration); there doesnÂ’t seem to be a safe place to confide in the school. Whilst there are SO many opportunities to succeed and be amazing, most students canÂ’t take advantage of it and instead choose to create a horrible pvms. I want to love this school but i canÂ’t because the intensity of the bad challenges the good.

Staff are very unprofessional. They try to hide the racism of the students from the parents who don't even get phone calls about the harassment their children are facing.

So unsanitary! My kid got 3 different illnesses at Patuxent. She also says there are fights and homophobia. There was no academic support from teachers or counseling. The food gave my son food poisoning and the school didn't give enough food to begin with. Their muffins are greasy and they always buy the dollar baned version of food. Get a grip.

The bathrooms are absolutely awful. Especially the boy's bathroom. One of the doors is missing, another has a lock that won't even work, and there's no soap and toilet paper on most days. The sinks are always dirty and filled with gross liquids that I don't even want to describe.
There are fights almost every day, the food is burnt or undercooked, and the students are just awful people.
Some teachers are bad. I also sometimes feel like the student council does nothing to improve the quality of being in that school.
Lunch is especially full of chaos as food sometimes gets thrown across the room, lights get turned off, the lunch lines are very unorganized, and people create a fighting ring. Also, a lack of discipline for those who actually do deserve it.

This school is so unsanitary, there was a bat in the science class room DRAIN. And the halls are so dirty if someone fell on it there face would be covered in dirt. Also covid protections are very low like they do not sanitize at all.

Their was almost at least 10 fights in the same week at this school. At this school you donÂ’t know if youÂ’re going to make it in time for class or get jumped by a group of people
Posted: September 10, 2018
Leadership? One of the previous got beat up by a 4”10 student. Leadership doesn’t exist at this school
Posted: September 10, 2018
If by support you mean continue to harass students with disabilities and differences, then yes this school does “support”(sarcasm).
Posted: September 10, 2018
If you were to randomly pick 10 students from this school IÂ’m 100% sure 8 of them would be bullies.
Posted: September 10, 2018
1/10. Literally the worst experience of my pre-teen years. The teachers donÂ’t care about the students and if the substitutes are better than the actual teachers then you know youÂ’re doing something wrong
Posted: September 10, 2018
Teachers are extremely inconsistent when it comes to homework it’s disgusting. Some teachers at this school have no idea what the meaning of “due date” is.

The GT program is excellent including the vigorous math program, English and history tracts. The school has a new principal who encourages students to work hard. If your child is motivated, they will succeed no matter where they attend school. That motivation starts at home!

Ive been at Patuxent valley for the past year and it is a travesty. The teachers and administrators are way too strict and just purely punish students out of spite. There are fights constantly occurring between students for the most idiotic reasons. There is practically no after school curricular for student to sign up for. I am ashamed to be part of this so called school.

My daughter attended this school, and it was okay. Now, my son is attending it (starting in 2013), and it has become horrible. The teachers are okay, but only a handful of hard and good teachers left. The administration is horrible. The guidance staff is also incompetent. Both the guidance and administration do nothing to help the kids, and are basically useless. The administration does what they can to make their jobs easier. They do not let any parents argue/show their side. Mr.Motley is still kinda good, but the two vice principals are horrible.
