The school isn't that bad. Me and my friends always cry when we think about how next year is our last year here.

This school is actually not too bad. After reading many other reviews, I have seen how many parents/guardians see this school. However, as a 7th grade student I share a different view. The teachers aren't too bad, though they give a lot of homework and become pretty prickly towards the end of the year. Their view starts to shorten towards the end just like the students. Though many teachers give very big and hard assignments at the same time with only 2 days to complete them. And though I understand that teachers have lives outside of school, so do the students. I have many after school activities to juggle and the amount and length of the schoolwork does not help. Though I must cut some teachers some slack, they aren't all bad. Many teachers have readied me for high school and they all leave some sort of lasting impact on my learning. There are fights and bullying incidents generally often, but they never get too out of hand. The staff are pretty good with catching the fights early, keeping kids away, and intercepting the fights. Bullying isn't really treated as a priority, and though they constantly wave the no bullying flag, when it is reported it is kind of shunned. Though this is only my personal experience. The school is a bit obsessed with the idea of both ethnic and sexual orientation diversity. Though even as a white female, I have been bullied for my race before, and I have seen others be bullied for the same reason. If you took the time to read this review, I sincerely thank you for listening to my personal story and experience at Mayfield Woods.

This school is a joke not a school. I don’t know how it even scores 6 out of 10. It’s maximum score shouldn’t exceed 2 out of 10.
My son studies there and we are waiting for school year ti end as soon as possible. Because of this school we will have to move out of our home because it is IMPOSSIBLE to go forward with this school. Although they have very few good teachers (math, geography) most of others are always absent with different reasons and classes are being substituted by different teachers who don’t care at all. Every single day slap competitions in toilets, bullying each other… terrible demographic causes terrible discipline in MWMS. No principle, no counselors even care about the kids (probably they are exhausted too, I don’t know). Bit as a parent mu advice keep your kid away from this school. He/she will learn only vulgarity and cheap behavior. This school is NOT able to positively contribute your kid’s life. All schools have problematic kids but this school is FULL of them.

They have some good teachers but most of all they don’t care bout the children the staff sucks meanly the principal and counselors. If they put more attention into the kids in helping them achieve to be successful then the kids would want to come to school and have more teachers that want to teach and not just there to get a pay check it would be a better school the children just do what every they want. they minus well be running the school. They need 85% of new staff. The office staff are nice and helpful besides the principal that never ever Kind bout kids and she and the counselors like to cover up a lot of things that go on at mayfield woods middle school. Had three kids to attend this school and this has been the all time worst school year ever 2021-2023

Though there have been some inconveniences with child safety in the past week, I am pleased to give both the positive and negative atributes of this school. Let me begin with the front office secretaries, they are very helpful, always eager to help parents like me out, and reflect a great gratuity towards the school's colleagues. Teachers, most teachers are helpful and have a significant amount of care for their students. Though not all teachers are super lovely in this facility most are and have great respect for their students. The academic curriculum is also very well organized and explains a lot if the students decide to care for it. It is very understanding and well-organized. The student services team in this school is just PHENOMENAL they are always there for students and have a great way to get to their students. The Special Education for students in need of Special Education is great, they treat their Special kids with dignity and are understanding of their needs. The safety and Family engagement of this school is just OK, their are definatley ways of improvement in both areas to make it better. Overall its a great, inclusive school where places of improvement are needed but is great.

I love this school. I am in high school now, but I went here last year and I miss it so much. Many say it's not a good school but I loved everything about it. They gave a lot of homework but it was worth it because it really helped in high school.

Mayfield has made me into a different person for many reasons. It’s very diverse so no matter what you race is you’ll always fit in in that way. The help from teachers can be different. Some teachers will help you while others won’t. But I wouldn’t trade my experience at Mayfield for anything.

There are many great teachers at Mayfield, and I haven't experienced, seen, or heard of the "bullying" they do to students. There is obviously going to be bullying, it is a middle school, but I have never seen anything particularly awful. The principal is absolutely amazing and cares about the well-being of students, and had encouraged many school wide activities promoting unity and kindness. The teachers encourage learning many of them are absolutely awesome. I have heard from the parents of several special ed students that their children are being treated well. I think that Mayfield is a perfectly good school, and there is no reason to avoid going to it.

This is an amazing powerful school I live my kids have learned so much we moved here from patuxent valley that school is so old and outdated.

Mayfield is a good example of a school with some great teachers, and some awful teachers. There are a few teachers in each grade who are not qualified, and are collecting checks. But there are some teachers who are awesome and could be college professors. Since the redistricting and building of Thomas Viaduct middle school, there is a noticeable difference in the student body. Much of the "rowdiness" has left and has caused a great impact in how the school is run and how teachers teach. MWMS is a normal middle school, that is going back to what it used to be, before the "ghettoness" arrived.

Don't listen to the staff when they say we have a nice, clean envoirment. I was suspended for doing absouletly nothing, and was set up by bullies. No teacher looked into it.That's a major problem. The students at the school are some of the most repulsive behavior you'll see in your entire life. Some of the staff actually bully students and can't do there job. My past 2 years at Mayfield have been lacking. There are plenty of better middle schools in howard county, so just pass this one.

whoever said that their was a basketball team is wrong. There is no sports teams at the school. All that we do is work. I hate going to school everyday. the only thing that is fun is playing tackle football at recess. Every teacher at the school is horrible. I am ready to move out of this over-appreciated school.

I attended this school from 2004-2006 and looking back it is by far the best school I've ever attended. You can't do anything about the students but the teachers and faculty were fantastic.

I am a student who attended MWMS from grades 6-8. I flat out love this school. People say there is a bullying issue, but honestly, I have seen anything of the sort. The teachers there are amazing (GO MRS. MAPLE!!!). Of course, there are a few that fail to do their job, but I've only come across about two of those. I've met so many great people there. People say it's not that good of a school, but I really don't see why they would say that. Don't judge the school. It's very culturally diverse and offers many extra curricular activities for children. They have a varsity basketball team, an amazing band/orchestra/chorus, drama, and an outstanding debate, photo, and film team. I wish I could stay there forever, but alas, I must move on to high school...

I have 2 sons that attended here and the staff support is wonderful. My boys are no angels and need the extra push to keep them on track, socially and academically. They received it here. I had an issue with a teacher and we solved our issue like adults. I was satisfied with the positive outcome. If you follow the rules, check-up on your child (behavior & homework), and follow-up with teachers, your child will do well. The principal is friendly, approachable, and supportive. She is no push-over. She does her job well with the right balance of strictness and kindness. Everyone under her leadership are the same. Finally, you get back what you put in and more. If you get involved in the PTA or volunteer occasionally, you will see first hand what I'm talking about, not just with my boys but with all students. Most of the students are respectful towards each other and respect school rules. Now, this observation relates to the students of 2009-2012.

There is a lot of bullying in this school. The sad part is the staff will bully students and parents. The students bully and get away with it. Then the school covers it up. I will not miss this school. I expect better from Howard County and would encourage the Board of Education to take a close look at this school and parents start taking every problem to the Board of Education. The most heart breaking is you have a few great staff members there surrounded by a bunch of bad ones. This school needs to be put in check and the staff needs to reminded why their there. Maybe instead of moving principals they need to move teachers to new schools.
