This school is probably the worst middle school I've enrolled into. I have many things to say about this school, so I'll just be real. Most of the teachers are TOO disengaging. They just teach you lessons and expect you to understand it enough to get a good grade. They also give TONS of assignments and expect you to finish it in under a week. The students cause too much trouble and get into many fights. The staff members just baby you around instead of treating you like a middle schooler. The school's apparently so broke that we only get 1 field trip every year, which is the "All School Field Trip" and the special needs get better treatment. The only drinks they provide for lunch are only chocolate milk and regular milk. They should provide bottled water for people who don't have water bottles or people that don't want to drink from the water fountains. Some students will steal your school chromebook/charger for absolutely no reason. Some of the staff members even take your stuff away for the rest of the day, even if some of those students needs those stuff. They also have a vending machine, but they close it during the day and it only opens in the morning and dismissal time. What's the point of having a vending machine in the school if it's just closed during the day? Overall, this school is below average and at least I'm moving to a new middle school after this school year ends. I suggest you don't enroll your child in this school.

This school is horrible, disgusting, and overall rude. The some teachers are rude and do not care about their students, they think you can do a 3 page assignment in a span of 30 minutes. Sorry to say but there is MANY issues with this school system, one of them being the students. The staff here do not look into students when people are harassing, cyber bullying, and etc, and the staff who work in the front office are RUDE, rude to the parents, the students, and even some of the staff. There is no respect in this school, the teachers will likely put yell at you when you dont do what they say ESPECIALLY the security. They will take your stuff and not give it back to you until the end of the day EVEN though you need it to get through the day. The councilors do have lessons about it but MOST of the students dont listen and do it anyways thinking there is no consequences towards their actions. The parents have to careless about what their children are doing online and in person. On the other hand, the teachers here are okay they arent the best but itll do, and the principal allow the teachers to have food delivered here or have food trucks FOR the teachers regularly which is unfair to the students because we have the most disgusting and cheap-looking food we could get. Also, the drinks we get are not good, all we get for lunch is either chocolate milk or milk. The school should provide bottled waters for the students who either dont have a water bottle or dont want to drink from the fountains. The fountains have filtered water dispensers which is good but the water from where you put your mouth does not have a filter and you can get little to no water in there. The school also has a vending machine but you cant use it during the day which is weird cause theres no point in a vending machine being there if you can only use it in the morning and at the end of the day. Another thing, the school is NOT clean the classrooms, hallways, band rooms, and to top it all off the bathrooms. There is little to no air conditioning flowing in the school, there is classrooms that are either too hot or too cold no in between. Also, on the topic of field trips, there is BARELY any fun activities for students, theres no field trips, the only fields we get are the all school feild trips. Also, the provide more trips for the special needs.
Overall, the school is pretty okay, not the best but not the worst. The school can DO better academically, financially, and socially.

Their sites that occur at the school on a daily basis. Students do not have a true sense of belonging. student steal from each other on a regular basis and there's no real accountability..

My daughter got into a fight and none of the teachers, principal or counselors did anything about it. So i do not recommend bringing your child to this school because the adults dont do anything.

Excellent school with great teachers. They have an incredibly caring staff and the school is well stocked with resources for the students. Not overcrowded like some other schools in MCPS. Highly recommend!

So I'm currently a student at this school and there are good and bad things about it. Most of the teachers are caring and in general, good teachers but some give out way too much homework and assignments that they expect us to finish the next day and are rude or strict. Overall the school is pretty big, there is a wide arrangement of advanced classes however the students there are just the only thing what makes it worse in the first place. There are about 2-4 uncontrollable fights a day, racial slurs, cursing, that the teachers don't do anything about even if they curse at them they don't really do anything about it. In the end, the actual school system is my rating of 4-stars could be better but it's the students that are just what make the environment gloomy.

The school isn't bad I'll say that. During the pandemic, however, some things need to change. 1 this school needs to email their students about things other than their daily schedules, clubs, SSL hours opportunities, and grades. Recently students are returning to schools and bbms only contacted adults about whether or not their child is returning. I don't know about you but every single person in my house is either sleeping or working so they don't have little to no time to check their emails. I think they'd benefit more if they alerted students about this thing because I know a lot of students that regularly check their email for updates. So emailing them about the matter would be better than emailing their parent/guardian.

Like all public schools, there are some good teachers and some horrible teachers in this school. They dont know how to teach. The principal and counselors dont listen to parents concerns. When you communicate with them, they dont respond. I know they could get busy but isnt that part of their jobs? It seems that leadership/admin dont know how to problem solve.

The counselor and assistant principal never initially spoke to most of the students that were assaulting her, even though we were promised the would.

Numbers don't tell the whole story. After one year at this school I have been HIGHLY impressed with the attentiveness of the staff to my child's specific learning challenges. It's not just one teacher it's all of them. They bent over backwards to help, and it's working. My child loves going to school every day! Like any school, it's not perfect. There are troublemakers who consistently cause problems. And like any school there are communication issues between parents and staff. But we've experienced a "can do" attitude that overshadows those issues. When teachers contact me before I contact them to communicate concerns, that's a positive, proactive approach. That comes from the top down. Ms. Reuben is doing a great job motivating her staff, and it shows. From the front office and custodial staff, to classroom teachers, people seem happy to be there - and as a result, so are the students.

Banneker is a pretty good school. When it comes to teachers they're all great teacher and they do their best to execute their job properly. I've only been in Banneker for a year though and I'll be leaving next year for high schol, but everything in the school is great except for maybe, lunch. It really isn't the best. The staff is great, there's a lot of clubs and activities to help students. Like in every other school, there are some people that will cause trouble but that happens everywhere. The student body is okay, as always there will be people that are nice, and some that are not. Over all, everything is pretty good.
