With great empathy and compassion, please do not register your child to attend Bethesda Elementary (BE) School. The inept academic structure and the one-size fits all teaching model will cause your child to lag at least two (to three) years behind their level of academic competency. Sadly, your parental concerns as you advocate for your child's academic success, will be construed by BE (administrators/teachers) as intrusive and unwarranted. Collaboration among parents, teachers, and the administration to foster a nurturing and safe learning environment, unfortunately, is foreign to BE's mission and as a result students suffer. It is disappointing and heartfelt to write this review but for BE to thrive corrective actions must be implemented, with its students as the number one priority. Regrettably, I cannot recommend this school. :(

We have really enjoyed our time at BE so far. The PTA is active, the teachers offer clear communication promptly and the student population is global.
Our family feels welcomed and our son is really happy with the friends he has made.

Bethesda Elementary was once a stellar school of learning, however, since the inception of the current administration (in the front office) it has plummeted on all academic levels. If your child does not conform to the one-style teaching/learning model, your child will be placed in remedial/special ed classes without your knowledge or consent. The administration office is more of a Payton place than an environment of acceptance of active and committed parental engagement... there is a low tolerance for questioning the status quo. The administration is very slow to respond to bullying and other behavioral issues, as a result children suffer.

Lack of having good hires as far as teachers. Tolerates teachers who do not perform. Way too laid back. Students suffer.

BES is a warm and welcoming school community. We love the administration and teaching staff who take the extra effort to make sure everyone feels included. The school also strives to provide an enriching learning environment across all levels of learning. Further there is a huge emphasis on make sure ALL students have access to programming and opportunities at BES.

We enrolled our son to the kindergarten last year and this year he is in the 1st grade. Until now we are fully satisfied overall and also our son enjoys his school. We love BES very much, thanks to everyone...

Our oldest is in kindergarten this year and loving everyday. When I ask him the best part of his day, he'll list all the fun things he did ("bus ride! Literacy stations! Media Center!") and then just give up, saying it was all so great he can't decide what's "best". The school is inclusive, diverse, and sets a great tone from the top about kindness and work ethic.

I love our school. The teachers have been wonderful! The school implements an inclusion model that makes all students feel welcome. I couldn't ask for anything more in a public school.

So far so good, if your kid does not speak English, there are good resources.

There will be a response to a parental complaint but in some of the most serious situations the principal will cave to a few teachers she is afraid to lose.

One of the best aspects of this school is the principal/vice principal team. We fled DC in part because of the system's inability to retain fine principals, and we have no regrets. The stability of the principal/vice principal; their steady, cheerful leadership during a time of tremendous growth in the student body, and their responsiveness to parental concerns (prompt responses to e-mails and phone calls) are wonderful and inspiring, day after day. I wish the school were smaller--but good schools like this one attract people (like us) who flee weaker schools.

Great academics, great resources and involved families. Truly a neighborhood school. I have 3 children there now and they are thriving.
