This has been a good space and place to learn. I am impressed with the low staff turn over. Many of the teachers and staff have been there over 5 years.
I love the level of communication and transparency the administrion exhibits. The motto of "Kids First"

Excellent school with great teachers. They have an incredibly caring staff and the school is well stocked with resources for the students. Not overcrowded like some other schools in MCPS. Highly recommend!

The teachers did not usually assign mindless busy work.

Posted: September 5, 2018

Most of my child's teachers were quite good. Not all, but most.

Posted: September 5, 2018

There are kids at Burtonsville that get away with a lot and other kids that get penalized for the tiniest perceived infractions. The guidance department is just about non existent and deinitely not at all appropriately responsive.

The current principle has no leadership qualities, poor communication skills and no sense of equity. She does not appear to care at all about the student community.

Posted: September 5, 2018

Most of the teachers are aware of good teaching practices. I did however have to basically tell two of my child's teachers what they should try as strategies to effectively teacher my child. They did try those and they worked so they stuck with it. It seemed like they made no effort or had no training to try to address differences and no attempt to problem solve on their own. Until I was in to ask what had been tried with my child, really NOTHING had been tried. Come on!!!

Bullies run the day. The way the administration and the counselor address bullying is worthless.

Posted: September 5, 2018

Mixed. The quality of the school has gone way down hill since my first child started there in 2009-2010. The student body coming to Burtonsville seems to be a rougher crowd now with rougher parents. The school's previous principal was kind of abrasive and annoying but she was a great leader and cared about the kids and the community. The new principle...ehhh. Like I said, totally mixed experience. As a parent you just need to be really really on your toes. Oh yeah, and the secretary in the main office is incredibly rude and disprespectful to parents.

Great experience at Burtonsville elementary school since my son started going there in 2015/2016 school year.

They give daily reports on how the students day was and sent home work on Monday and summit home work on Friday which give our kids enough time to use what they learned through out the week to fully understand the content. Very effective way of learning.

Teachers at Burtonsville elementary school are very friendly and dedicated to educating our kids.

Send educational information to parents and guardians about bullying and have mandatory reporting policy .

My daughter has attended Burtonsville since kindergarten and she is doing very well. Her teachers are engaged and there is constant communication. She gets homework on a daily bases. Couldn't ask for a better school.

This is such an awful school. There is no communication between parents and teachers. Every teacher teaches in different way. I have reached out several times to the teacher and the principal and have been assured that they will help me help my child, but they always FAIL. The students are so not disciplined. The teachers aide that watch the kids during lunch have play favoritism and give their favorite students basket balls , other kids are left on their own. My son was pushed by another student and hit his head and told the aide and he was ignored. Through out the year his teacher only had negative comments about my son, I approached her on giving me constructive criticism so I can help him and to point to resources so I could help my son. She never followed thru. The principal is never available . She is only business oriented and does not care about students. Like someone else mentioned, bad kids get all the attention and kids like my son who are quiet and follow rules are ignored. I wish they change the principal and teachers. This is very poorly managed school

See previous comments, I have mentioned previously wish I could change my sons school , I want to educate my son but there is no help

Posted: April 25, 2016

They give homework once a week. I don't know what they are teaching, only find out when my son brings home worksheets that are in correct / incomplete and he says he didn't understand the concept and when he asked his teacher she ignores him

Posted: April 25, 2016

Like I mentioned in my review, school aides have favorites that get treated well and other students have to just follow those privileged students and hope they will get to play basketball. School lunch time, kids who are quiet and eat lunch get ignored and kids that break rules are closely watched. The days when the bad kids are well behaved they get rewarded and good kids are ignored. I have witnessed this first hand, I have volunteered and see this done all the time

Posted: January 28, 2016

Great teachers, but I don't think they had the resources to develop every child so the ones who are smart and well behaved get ignored.

My son went here for three years and every year he liked school less and less. The teachers were great but the environment of the school was unwelcoming. I felt as if I was visiting my child in a low security prison every time I'd get buzzed in. The kids were mean and my child was never challenged academically. Now we've moved out of the county and my kid "loves" his new school. I can see that our experience at Burtonsville is not how public school has to be.

We moved out of PG County to get the Montgomery County School experience. Two years later, it has been very clear that Burtonsville is not nearly far enough away from the county line...it is only slightly better than actually being back in a PG County schools. So, even though it means I am about to start driving over an hour to get to work each day, we are moving back to Harford County to make sure our kids have quality schools to attend.
