My friend went to this school and she told me everything that parents don’t see inside school grounds. She told me that she got body shamed and kicked in her private area by A BOY, and guess what the principal did… they said no recess for the boy. Like that’s going to do anything. Also, she got bullied by this LITTLE BLONDE HAIR GIRL THAT SHE THINKS THAT SHE RUNS THE SCHOOL, she didn’t include my friend(note this : she was new to the school). I would NOT RECOMMEND THIS SCHOOL. Parents you should watch how your kid(s) are feeling after school ,because you might not know that they got bullied for doing nothing!!!!
I’ll SAY IT AGAIN I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS SCHOOL AND DO NOT LET YOUR KID(S) COME HERE!!!!!!!

We’ve been so impressed with this excellent school! Our daughter has attended kindergarten and first grade here, and her teachers have been first-rate, encouraging her to learn and grow above her grade level, inspiring a love of learning, and also helping her grow socially. She’s made many wonderful friends as well. The school handled the challenges of COVID-19 very effectively- ensuring safety while minimizing impact on the kids education. The principal and administrators are helpful, professional and loved by the students. Truly it’s hard to imagine a better school, we feel so lucky to have found it.

They do not give homework to 1st graders. My and family and I are coming from a Howard County public school and they give hw to kindergarteners. My wife and I are not at all pleased with this idea. An administrator told us the families that go to the school want to have more family and sport times for there children.

Our child’s 1st grade teacher is not very pleasent to speak with. She has an attitude as if she doesn’t have to speak or say hi to the parents. She is VERY RUDE! We are very active with our children such as field trips, school event etc. We asked her about attending a school field trip and she gave us all the excuses in the world why cannot attend. Well we called the place they were going and they gave us to green light to attend. We informed her that we would meet them at the field trip. We see our and his class arrive and she wouldn’t even speak to us or acknowledge we were there. We had never witness this before.

She just doesn’t seem to be very active with the parents or maybe certain families she is. But vice principal was very nice in the beginning then I had emailed him a few times and no response.

I really expected more from a Montgomery County school and in Rockville. Also expected a way more friendlier staff.

We have had only positive experience at the school. My daughter went into kindergarten with no desire to read or do homework and now at the end of the 1st grade she is reading at the end of the 2nd grade level and has excelled at math and science. School provides a lot of extra-curricular activities and have been very responsive and understanding of special situations. She has come to school being very shy and keeping to herself in large groups, but thanks to the kindergarten teacher she has made some excellent friends and is now participating in most of group activities. Most importantly she hates to miss school!

Our son goes to FVES and we could not be more happier. The neighborhood is great and the PTA is exceptional.

I have two boys at this school. Both kids really learned a lot at it and they are loving it. The teachers are amazing! I am really upseat to see the rating of the school going down since we were sending our kids to another Montgomery county school which was rated 8 / 10 and I tell you the truth ; its not better from this school by any means! Great teachers and encouraging educational environment which made my older kid finish his ESOL program earlier than what was planned for him and we owe the achievement to the professional and dedicated staff of this amazing school

FVES is truly a wonderful school for our children. The teachers, staff and parents are supportive. We have been very happy with our children's progress. Both have been excelling in math, reading and spelling. Socially, they have made many friends and interact with kids of all backgrounds. An attribute of FVES that stands out as a major positive is that it is very small. There are less than 500 kids in attendance and we believe that this promotes a closer knit and a more cohesive group of kids. Flower Valley ES feeds into Earl B. Wood MS, which is a great middle school and ultimately feeds into Rockville HS (Excellent IB program, an Engineering program, a Journalism program and Advanced Placement programs). Another strength that this school possesses is that the Flower Valley neighborhood and surrounding communities along Muncaster Mill Rd, Norbeck Rd and Georgia Ave fully support the kids and staff members: The school and staff work with a fabulous after school program; the local cub scout and girl scout troops conduct meetings and service projects in and around the school every year; and the local businesses generously donate to the PTA. Speaking of PTA, we have a top notch PTA board. They are full of energy and great team of parents. Flower Valley ES is a gem!

We chose this neighborhood primarily for the school and community feeling; even transferring our child from the private Catholic school as a result of the rave reviews. We have two children at this school and could not be happier with the engagement of the staff and teachers, the excitement my children have to go to school each day, the endless activities that are available, the resources, etc, etc as the list could go on and on! The principal has extremely strong communication skills and is approachable at all times; she is very present at all school activities! Parents are very active and encouraged to participate in classroom events, parties, drop in for lunch and more! We've love the PTA sponsored events such as Read A thon events, Carnival, Math Nights - the newsletters from the PTA in addition to the weekly Sunday night phone calls are so helpful for busy families! The school does a fabulous job with "Peace Tokens" to promote their values, the Fine Line Award and Fine Dining program to promote positive behavior. We hear all about Flower Valley each night at dinner and couldn't' be more proud to be parents of Fireflies!

We were pleased to find a house within the Flower Valley ES attendance zone because of the school's reputation for being a place with lots of parental involvement, dedicated staff, and happy kids. We are now in the middle of our third year at FVES and have found everything we'd heard to be true.

Parents are encouraged to come to the school to volunteer and engage, and the administration/teachers/staff are welcoming when they do. The school has a tangible "community" feel which goes a long way in creating an environment where both children and adults feel comfortable.

Each of my child's teachers, over all 3 years, has been responsive via email when I've asked questions/raised concerns, and I know the administration places great emphasis on communication between staff and parents. The school leadership is also focused on making sure that instructional delivery helps all students achieve, and the strategies and technology employed to this end are ever-evolving and improving.

My child sometimes talks about wanting to move to a "different house"-- but he's always quick to say that he wouldn't want to leave Flower Valley ES!

There is a certain degree of liberal elitism at play with the neighborhood parents and it seems that they have taught it to their children. This had led to these children exhibiting elitist attitudes by bullying other children, and the faculty turns a blind eye to it. This school has a DHOH program, but I am not sure that this school is a good fit for the DHOH program. The Principal treats DHOH students as second class and as after thoughts at best. Often forgetting to address their needs in newsletters and/or verbal speeches. This is unfair to the children in the DHOH and other special education programs. Flower Valley needs to institute a weekly Peace/Anti-bullying rally as it seems to be a major issue at this school, especially the bullying of DHOH and other special education students. This trend must be stopped. Otherwise the I have no complaints. The afterschool program is great.

I have three current students at this school. I have been more than pleased with all of their teachers so far, and I am so grateful that the community is so welcoming and friendly. I went to Catholic school as a child, and originally thought I'd love to send my children as well. But now I'm glad we couldn't afford it:) FVES has so many great opportunities for their students - both because of the active PTA and because the school staff is committed to the students. The only things that bother me are not because of the school but because of the county/state regulations (testing, class size, calendar - let's vote out that BOE;)).
We are planning on moving soon - but will definitely stay in boundary so that our children can stay at their beloved school.

I am a first year parent at FVES and the experience has been excellent. The teachers are war and welcoming and they have genuine concern for the children's education and well being. They have an organized and structured curriculum and in school after and before care programs. Which beats some other schools by having to bus the children off to another facility. They also offer multiple languages and have extensive technology in the school. They recently built and added new playground equipment and have a very involved and active PTA. I think this school is doing it right and I am very happy with it.

I have two children currently attending Flower Valley Elementary (FVES), and I d strongly recommend it. At FVES, my children have received a top-notch rigorous academic education in a peaceful learning environment where school leaders and staff teach children to respect and celebrate diversity. I love the diversity of the staff and students at FVES, and appreciate that students learn and recite a daily "Peace Pledge." Most significantly, however, I am impressed with the rigorous academic instruction and nurturing learning environment that my children have received. I can honestly say that my children have always felt that their FVES teachers truly cared about them, loved teaching, and were committed to making a difference. And, as a parent, I believe that my children have received an excellent elementary education and are well-prepared for middle school and beyond. I have found that the current principal and other leaders of the school are consummate professionals who are extremely responsive to parent questions and concerns. The PTA is very involved. In sum, I strongly recommend FVES and will be sad when my children graduate and move onto middle school.

I too have had a very difficult experience at this school. My child was in the deaf program. She came home with bruises (bullying). When I took it up with the school asking why the teacher in charge allowed this to occur, they fought me vehemently. I pulled my kid out of the school as I could not afford attorney fees. The teacher in question is still at the school

If you have a child with special needs, be very wary. The IEP process is rigidly controlled and your rights as a parent, if contrary to the school's decision, ultimately may not be regarded. The school is very driven by liability (they say safety), and there is high degree of liberal elitism at play. Otherwise, the level of education provided was very good and my child's needs were addressed. But your decisions as a parent will be overridden if they decide to the contrary.

We have three kids in Flower Valley, 5th grade, 2nd grade, and Kindergarten. Flower Valley is a wonderful school and my kids LOVE it here! I like that there are Special Education programmes for kids with Emotional Problems, along with special classes for Hard of Hearing, ESOL for kids who are not fluent with English, and much more! The teachers are wonderful, and the new principal, Mrs. Melnick, is striving to make FV one of the top schools in Montgomery County. I recommend bringing your children here! (:

We have two kids in Flower Valley one in K and the other 3rd. We have no experience with any other school since both of them go to FVES from day one. Any way FV has everything we need from a school. Great teachers, a wonderful principal, involved parents and very talented and smart kids. Our kids love going to school and we are really impressed with their day to day progress. School has a very warm and welcoming atmosphere all the time and there are so many events in the school to enhance teacher, student and parent interaction, such as the International night, science fair, Bingo nights, movie nights etc. Principal knows almost all the kids by name and most of the families as well. It's one heck of a happy place. We are so happy our kids are going to FV. Go Flower Valley.

Flower Valley is awesome. The current principal has a great vision and mission for her entire school body. The school climate is welcoming, the staff are knowledgable and effective, the counselor is involved with designing & offering prgrams that meet the needs of the whole child and the students seem happy there. I enjoy the open communication between stakeholders & the study of disaggregated data to determine the school's next steps in meeting the needs of all students. The successful use of technology in the classrooms makes me believe that my child will be prepared for middle school instructional & technology use expectations. I feel that FVES is on its way to becoming one of the top elementary schools in the MCPS district.

My children are in kindergarten and first grade at FVES. I have been very happy with their classroom teachers and particularly impressed with the Art, Music and PE teachers. I think FVES has great school spirit, on display at International Night, the Parent vs. Staff Basketball Game, the Talent Show, and various events during the year. I think the Assistant Principal is especially outstanding. My children have made great academic progress in reading, writing, spelling and math, and have built strong friendships along the way. PTA is active, many parents volunteer in the classrooms and at events.

This school has a class that only has children with emotional and behavioral problems. My issue with them is that they do not know how to deal with black children with emotional problems. They fear them, pacify them, are just afraid of them.
