My daughter's experience was fantastic here except for one teacher that was not a good fit for my daughter, but other than that my daughter did well here and the principal was able to get back to us with any concerns. She would also listen to my daughter if she had concerns-- one time the bus - the kiddos were disrespectful to the driver and other children on the bus. My child spoke up, so the principal went inside the bus to remind the rules. Was much after that. PTA has always been great with great parents involved. My daughter was here from K to 5 th!!

Millersville is a great community school. It's small and welcoming. They are working to continue to improve the curriculum to meet the needs of the children. While I think my children could surely be learning more in a more intense leaning environment, they are learning a good amount with caring teachers in a fun environment that allows them to enjoy going to school every day. I have 3 girls at the school and am please with their development. Larger issues with AACPS could be better, but that is outside of the control of MES.

I know the pandemic has taken a toll on kids ability to learn and the teachers ability to teach, however I have found so much wrong with this school since their return.
My daughter is not challenged in her third grade classes and was bored to death with second grade. Is there a reason to read the same book 8 times in a school year? She excelled in math and became bored when it no longer challenged her.
She has experienced terrible bullying in the playground and went to her teacher several times and was told to ignore it. This child makes her day a living hell and no one will help her. I have decided to go to the school board, especially after their 4 page newsletter on bullying.
The classes do not suit her needs as she is a fast leaner. While they placed her in advanced reading, her other subjects such as math, she also scores high on and they will not offer her that advanced class. Overall, I am disappointed that the schools complete lack of caring and nurturing her.
I have never seen a school in such disarray. They need better k-2 teachers that are there for the children and not their paychecks. I would be interested in how the school board would handle a class for her. So far I find the teachers lacking the proper skills needed to maintain the classroom to the point that they are able to teach.
She does the works and we have been forced to a hire an outside tutor for her other needs. I hope to see some improvement.
As for the bullying, the teachers need to be trained on how to deal with the bullying immediately instead of telling the children to ignore.

There is hardly any diversity in the staff. It is predominantly white women. Theres only one black teacher (Female) in the school, and one male (white) who is the gym teacher. The principal, although nice, is not very receptive to feedback regarding her staff. I addressed my concerns about my kids teacher and her lack of communication and ability to educate. The principal basically sided with the teacher as if my concerns were not valid - even though its her responsibility to hire competent staff. If nothing improves this year Ill be contacting the school board.

#1 school in the area and I am glad our kids go here. We also love participating in the other school activities.

Amazing. My daughter has thrived. She finished first grade reading at the highest 4th grade level. Her teachers have shown interest, compassion, and I believe genuinely care for our children. I feel so blessed to have landed here.

The Special Ed population is taking over. Our regular ed students are lost. They are made to keep quiet and get along with the special needs students regardless. They have no voice. Where are the needs of our neighborhood regular ed students being met. Poor leadership. The PE teacher runs the school. She is a bully.

The staff and administration should set the example first. It does not appreciate the teachers other than Special Ed teachers who get all the accolades. Regular Ed students are ignored.

The school is good for the kids and for the most part the teachers are experienced at handling all sorts of issues that arise. This year the principal reportedly has overreacted to several incidents involving students, but overall she is likely doing what the "front office" tells her to do.

Great teachers here, but clearly AACPS has an agenda for the administration. The principal/VP turnover is ridiculous and many parents feel this is the county's way of implementing sweeping changes in the school.

My daughter is in Kindergarten and has had an absolute blast her first year of learning. She enjoys school, has made friends, and can't wait to come home and tell me about her day. The school seems very close knit and has done a pretty good job with communicating events and anything specific that I need to know about my child. I like that they utilize Class Dojo to keep me in the loop about behavior or updates about her classroom. Crossing my fingers that her experience in 1st grade will be just as positive!

My child has been at this school for a few years now and I have to admit that my wife and I are pleased. Each child is addressed for their strengths and weaknesses at the classroom level and all children are held to the same standards of discipline in terms of behavior; there are no favorites. Every school has its problems, but the small "charm" that this school has makes it a real draw. The only thing negative I can say about it is that prior to attending the school, we had heard about how amazing the parent involvement was. This may be true for kids individually, but the PTA struggles to do its job because of the lack of interest. They try extremely hard, but it is either the transient nature of the population (due to the military and careers) or a sign of the times; no one knows. Bottom line, this is a public school and you are not going to get the same hand holding as a $20,000/yr private school. If you are active in your child's education, Millersville Elementary is a goldmine opportunity for any child. If you expect the teachers to do most or all of the work in educating your child, I don't think you will be happy in most schools.

Very sad to see the most current reviews of this school. I have 1 who completed 5 years here, another currently enrolled & a future MES Student. The positive points have all been addressed here. I can say that we are a low income family & completely disagree with some of the negative comments. Most families are accepting of an income, background, orientation, etc. yes these kids are high achieves but there are many special Ed & special needs students here. As with all schools you have to be active if you want your child to get what they need. There are plenty of options out there but schools don't "offer", you have to do your homework. I have had few problems & consider myself school spoiled. I love MES and would recommend this school to anyone!
