This school was an absolute nightmare and ultimately made us leave MoCo and Maryland. Our daughter was relentlessly sexually harassed through out 5th grade and the school would do absolutely nothing to help her. They would not even move the boys to another classroom after they spoke about dreaming of raping her and wishing they could see through her clothes. The things these 5th grade boys said to her were absolutely revolting. The principal and MCPS destroyed her faith in humanity. It is a vile place to send your children. We moved to a different state after this experience and it is amazing in retrospect just how far MCPS has falling and what a terrible school system it actually is. Ask yourself why so many of your neighbors send their children to private school.

My son attended kindergarten at Garrett Park Elementary from 2020-2021. We really loved the care and academic attention that was provided to him. They discovered that he was good in maths and was also provided extra classes on top of his regular kindergarten class. 2020 was an unusual school year but despite that they were very attentive and proactive and the teacher knew everyone and their likes and dislikes. Transitioning to in person class was absolutely awesome as he met his friends in person and she never made it feel like there was anything different. The teachers, principal and assistant principal and very good and I would highly recommend this school.

I think that they don't have enough support in this area. MCPS does not offer services.unless.The child.is severely impaired . If a child is somewhat behind they don't provide additional support to children that are borderline slightly behind their peers.

Posted: October 3, 2018

The school wants to ensure that children are respectful with others. They begin reinforcing values and community rules since k up to 5th.

Posted: October 3, 2018

Rhe pri cipal and assistance principal are great caring individuals. They are ensuring that children understand the importance of working together as a community. They always working towards new projects that can improve school performance and environment.

The front desk/ administrative staff is not very welcoming and tend to be quite rude especially to minority groups. I'm pretty sure this is known but they have ignore this behavior for years. This is the main reason why I'm giving them 4 stars vs 5 .The rest of the school staff, teachers ,nurse, are all very caring and helpful. The PTA is great and does a variety of school activities for helping the school. There is a sense of community between families and staff except for the front desk staff. Children do learn at good pace and are not overwhelmed by the amount work as I have heard from other parents at others schools in the area. Overall Garrett Park is a very good school.

My children have been at Garrett Park for six years, and I couldnÂ’t be happier. The teachers and staff are wonderful and responsive, and thereÂ’s an emphasis on kindness. Academically theyÂ’re on top of things and keep the children engaged. Parents are involved and PTA is active. ItÂ’s a great school and awesome community!

We have loved this school since our oldest started kindergarten 3 years ago. The environment is so incredibly friendly, the PTA is organized, the teachers have all been great. They do a beautiful job of acclimating the incoming kindergarten students to the school. There are multiple activities in the summer and orientations to get them comfortable. We loved the old principal and the new one has been lovely too. Communicative administration. ESOL team is great and the interactions that weÂ’ve had with the school counselors have been helpful. Lots of kids walking & biking in, lots of familiar faces at pick up. We love this school and the community.

My daughter had a great experience with her first grade teacher, but lately I've noticed that the quality of the school has gone down. My daughter gets told to ignore bullies and no disciplinary action is taken against children hitting my daughter or verbally abusing her. Her teacher is horrible at enforcing homework. They have been going through numerous principals and instructors. Some teachers don't even have all the qualifications necessary. Their anti bullying protocol is horrible. Her first year here was amazing but god has this school gone down in my eyes. One thing I'll never understand if you're a theacher who hates explaining things to students and disciplining them why are you in this career? I really hope they get their act together and get proper teachers that do what they do because it's their passion and career. Because as of late I am extremely dissatisfied with this schools performance.

My son recently joined GPES this October and has thrived with the warm, caring, respectful and dedicated environment to the children. In addition to the staff's commitment, it seems most parents are involved with the school in one way or another. We are very happy with our choice and look forward to the next 5 years at GPES.

I have one child that goes to Garrett park elementary this is his second year and I do not like the school at all. If my child does something he always get in trouble but let another child do something to him nothing happens it's time for another school.

My child attended this school a few years ago and I was just checking up on it again and I really have to say that the principle is amazing. She knows all of the students on a first name basis, and always pays attention to each of them; one year there was this little immigrant girl and she even went out of her way and talked to that student in her own language for a bit. Many of the teachers, as well, have unique teaching methods that work perfectly with the diverse mix of students, and encourage each individual to achieve their best. The extracurriculars are rich as well; art class in particular seemed to make a positive impact upon my child. And to top it off, the school events were fantastic and relevant to my child's own contentedness. The rotation of classes taught by one teacher within a grade and inter-grade "buddies" is yet another great idea that could only have come up at this school.

I love the Garret Park. My daughter didn't speak English. But when she was in kindergarten, she started! The teacher explained so amazing, that my daughter 2 month later started to understand instructions, made her work like other children and try to bring me letters like 'I love my mom' =) They are very friendly and always try do something for children. We had some parties, fun theme weeks and walking-tours.

The staff is not qualified enough and does not want to teach kids. From a discussion with a stuff development I understood that they believe the later a child start learning anything the better.

In a climate of shrinking resources and ever more complex elementary curriculum, Garrett Park is nothing short of miraculous. It puts complex educational theories into practice while recognizing the unique gifts of each student. The principal is very hands on. I see her in the hallway almost every visit I make. She continues to surprise me by being up-to-date on each of my children's progress. The faculty is dedicated to high-level education and very skilled in its execution. The staff is professional, courteous, and quick to smile. I always feel comfortable calling. Three of my children have gone to Garrett Park. Each has had individual needs met with competence and understanding. Two have IEPs that reflect their learning style and support both their strengths and weaknesses. The principal worked with me and the team to insure that the proper staff and testing were involved. I feel my children s issues were well defined and the proper accommodations were put in place. The school nurse has been highly professional and attentive in helping manage my son's asthma. I have nothing but praise to offer for the entire operation at Garrett Park.

Parent of a special education pre-schooler who goes to GPES for speech therapy weekly and will attend GPES for K this fall. We LOVE the school and the staff we have interacted with to this point. The counselor is AMAZING, the resource teacher supportive and accomodating, the PTA is very involved and pro-active, and the speech therapist is sensational. The new building is beautiful, and the staff makes it even more appealing. We have been nothing short of 100% impressed.
