I have several children who have attended MCPS schools. Glenallan is by far the most outstanding. Each morning when my daughter leaves for school I am filled with feelings of happiness, pride, and confidence that she will learn and grow. Mr. Moran greets her by name every time he sees us. He knows how she is doing in class and even congratulated me on her assessment score! He makes my daughter feel important and the teachers she has had believe the same and demonstrate it through their actions. I am so proud to be a member of the community!

Glenallan is a student's home away from home. The school strives to support all learners. The administration cares about the "whole" child, not just their test scores. My son missed his teachers greatly when he went to middle school.

My kid was student of kindergarten during 2013-14. All teachers and the principal were very committed.
I was always surprised to see 3/10 rating.
I had to move to other state for job reason, my son still misses his teacher, friends and the school environment.

We started our oldest daughter in kindergarten in Fall 2015 after some skepticism about the 3/10 rating (based on test scores), but could not be happier. Principal Moran is hyper-committed to each child and has turned around the school. The teachers are truly amazing, and the teacher to student ratio is so much better than other schools. The school facilities and STEM program are fantastic, the entire faculty is obviously committed to supporting each child and fostering a strong sense of school community at Glenallan (AKA "Gator Nation"). The kids are all so well-behaved and hard-working, no doubt in part because "character" (e.g. respect, responsibility, caring) is the most important value taught at the school... and it shows. An added bonus is that the before/after school extended day program is run by Kids After Hours which is AWESOME (especially the Glenallan staff). The ONLY negative is the PTA seems to meet less frequently than it could, but they're working on that. Overall, we are so relieved we didn't throw away money at a private school, as Glenallan is top-notch. And to emphasize, we're only half-way through the year and on Glenallan's watch our daughter has blasted to the TOP of the charts/assessments in reading and math AT A FIRST-GRADE LEVEL (not even kindergarten). You would be remiss to consider private school if you're in Glenallan's school zone. We very much look forward to starting our pre-schooler there next fall.

The grading system on this website is based solely on a Maryland assessment test. This school does not focus on kids regurgitating material for an exam. Instead they teach kids to learn. I was a little worried about the score when I was first looking at schools, but I have 3 other children from my family that go or went there and the oldest is taking Advanced Placement courses and going to graduate with honors from high school. I've seen first hand the level of education that this school is capable of. My daughter absolutely loves going to school and loves her teacher. The Principal of the school is also very involved with the families and the children. He knows every child's name and is truly dedicated to the education, well-being, and character of our children. I went to a private elementary school in this area and believe me, I wish I had gone to this school when I was a child. Would have saved my parents thousands and gotten a better education. My wife and I could not be happier.

The staff and administration model character traits and positive behavior for the students. Students are encouraged and rewarded for demonstrating exemplary character. My child loves Glenallan, especially her teachers. I really appreciate everything they do to challenge and engage her on a daily basis. In fact, she is actually upset that school has ended! I also want to commend the faculty and staff for creating a warm, welcoming environment for parents, as well. I am greeted whenever I come to the building and the administration always takes time to compliment me on something my child has done. I really feel like they have taken the time to get to know her and me.

My daughter is going into third grade and we love Glenallan. The teachers are caring and make school engaging for her. I really love the wide variety of teaching methods used to meet the different learning styles and interests. Plus, the STEM focus has given my daughter opportunities to think and work beyond the curriculum. My son is about to start kindergarten and he cannot wait to become a Glenallan Gator! Keep up the good work.

Before enrolling my kids at Glenallan they were at a Private Montessori school. Now I almost feel like I spent a whole lot of money that I did not need to because we are so happy at Glenallan! What a hidden gem! You will absolutely fall in love with our Principal, Mr. Moran, who interacts with the kids like a father/sibbling/friend/guardian/mentor all rolled into one. YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS TO BELIEVE IT. The kids really love going to school everyday and it shows. The kids here are so polite and well mannered, they show respect towards each other, teachers, staff and us parents. The kids understand what being in a community means and they look out for each other. The teachers are such an inspiration. I am a very Proud Parent of 2 fantastic Glenallan kids!

In this School, there is Character, there is friendship and mentorship. Mr. Moran, the Principal of Glenallan , has striven to bring this community together. Him and his staff, work really hard to bring the best of each student and bring them to the next level, to prepare them for the future.

More homework should be coming home for kindergarteners. It would be great to incorporate family monthly projects and reports to help increase writing and public speaking.

Glenallen is an outstanding school! My daughter is entering her third year as a Glenallen Gator. She has thrived academically and socially there. The pricipal and staff are extremely dedicated to the student's success. We love Glenallen!

Glenallan is a wonderful school. I have 3 kids that have gone to school there and my husband and I are so happy with their academic and personal growth. Mr. Moran and his staff do an amazing job of making sure these kids feel safe, are happy, and are receiving the academic development they need. They also do a great job of stressing the importance of values and character. We're so grateful and proud to be a part of the Glenallan community and would highly recommend this school to any parent.

My son is part human and part slug. Although he takes a long time getting from class to class, and leaves a unpleasant slime on the floor, the staff treats him like a normal student. They have also lowered the sodium content in the cafeteria which has really helped with his skin rot problem.

I rated this school as "Great" because the Principal puts the children first. He demonstrates great leadership skills and has fantastic hair. The best in Silver Spring.

My son has been here since Kindergarten we are so happy to have have him attend this great school. The principal and staff are outstanding ! always there for the children. My son absolutely loves his school, he gets up every morning with a big smile on his face. My son is in third grade at Glenallan Elementary School. His teacher, Mrs. Ghee is extraordinary! He has made so much progress academically and best of all he wakes up every day excited to go to school. Glenallan is a great school with great teachers!

My child has been at Glenallan for two years now. We had reservations before she started but are very happy we gave the school a shot. She has been really happy and learning a lot.

Both main teachers and all of her "specials" teachers so far have come across as really knowing how to work with the kids and make things interesting. Lots of field trips, special events at school or just neat class activities that all help make the school an enjoyable place.

Dedicated and hard working staff, strong school leadership and a small community of very active families have all contributed to this being a great spot to have started school at.

1st grader has an average of 5-10 minutes a night plus daily reading. Seems about right as this comes to a total of about 15-20.

Last night I attended the Glenallan talent show as a community member. I do not have any children at the school, they both graduated a few years ago. The spirit of this school is extraordinary. The offer students opportunities to be individuals and highlight talents and intelligences that often remain hidden. When I look at the rating for this school, I do not understand it. My students have been gone for a couple of years but the momentum of the Glenallan community is rolling in the direction of being exceptional. As my children say, once a gator, always a gator!!!

Glenallen has done a complete 180 in the last 2 years. The new principal and faculty are amazing, the new building is beautiful and technologically advanced, and the STEM program is among the best in the county. Last year's 3rd graders beat out the rest of Montgomery County on the math assessment, which was a major feat in itself! These changes are right on time for our kindergartner and soon-to-be kindergartner. Love this school!!!

My son loved attending this school!! We were very sad to have to move in the middle of the year. His first grade teacher was awesome, he was very hands on and dedicated to his work and students. We moved quite abruptly and was unable to notify the teacher right away. After a few days, we received a call from his teacher checking in on my son, wondering where has been the past few days. It was very nice to see that personal touch and such raw dedication and genuine care for students well being. The administrative staff is awesome and the principal is a very stand up guy, charming and really friendly. I really miss having my son here.

The change in leadership and the brand new building have made ALL the difference in the world between my rising 5th grader's experience v. my rising 1st grader's. LOVE the principal and assistant principal; they are fully engaged and committed to every child's success, excellent partners with the parents, great communicators, great administrators, great people.

Glenallan is an excellent school! My son is going on his fourth year here. The Principal and Assistant Principal are energetic and committed leaders, the teachers and staff are highly dedicated, and my son has made friendships to last a lifetime. This year they have a brand new, beautiful building, they instituted the STEM program, they now have an engineering club, and a student council. You really don't get a sense of how unique and inspiring Glenallan is unless you visit the school and meet the students.

My grandson attended Glenallen Elementary School. I really liked this school and it's curriculum but most importantly, I really loved the teachers. They are professional but they also treat every child with respect and love and it shows that they love their jobs.

GREAT SCHOOL AND GREAT STAFF! I have had the chance to volunteer at a number of Glenallan functions and am amazed by the wonderful administrators and teachers. The new principal is doing a great job. The whole staff is very devoted to the kids at Glenallan.

My daughter attends Glenallan and is in the third grade. I must say, the staff is nice but no nonsense, the teachers are very competent and overall, the school environment is welcoming and wonderful. We just got a new principal this year and he seems qualified and is doing a great job so far. The school has an excellent curriculum and a plethora of school activities as well as extra-curricular activities for the students. Anytime I had a complaint or concern is was handled in a professional matter and all issues were resolved. I love this school.

Great School!!! My child enrolled at Glenallan after having a terrible experience in private school. The teachers are caring, thorough, and really enjoy what they do. They worked very hard with my child and got her up to grade level in reading and math with in 4 months!!! Save your coins and give Glenallan Elementary a try. I'm sure you will be as pleased as I am. Also, they now have a new principal and I can't wait to hear about the new and exciting ideas he has to offer the school.
