My son attended this school for two years before we moved to get away from this school and their sad excuse for leadership. My son was the victim of violence on several occasions at the hands of the same aggresor. Every time I brought the incidents to the Vice Principal, I was given the same answer, they would talk to the children. Every altercation was instigated by the same child, and nothing was ever done but the Vice Prinicipal had high hopes, that by doing nothing something would change... As time went on it became very difficult to get my son to go to school. He did not feel safe there and I can't blame him. I can't stress enough how disappointed we are by the lack of action of this administration. I've never said this about a school but I HATE this school and I am so excited to leave this community in the past.

Honestly this school needs to be under review, with Montgomery County having a new Superintendent I pray that the staff at this school is reevaluated. There is no order in this school, under staffed, and lack of supervision. I will definitely continue to advocate for our children to be in safer environments, Takoma Elementary has proven to not be one.

My son loves it.... it's great schools and learning environment for kids. The principal is. Dr. Gadsden is an outstanding leader with almost all her staffs. The assistance principal and a few members need to avoid favoritism and need to be professional in their communication with kids and parents.

Bullying is a problem there. Some staff plays favorites with the children and it shows.

We are lucky to have this school in our neighborhood. What I have observed is that great schools have great leaders. Dr. Gadsden is an outstanding leader with an outstanding staff!! I enjoyed working with her while my children were there. They go above and beyond to help all students learn. Children come first at TPES.

There are typically 10 classes per grade, but since TPES is a focus school, class sizes are small (20). Also the number of students for grade, makes it possible to offer differentiated math and reading that goes above and beyond other public schools in the county. Finally, the primary STEM magnet program also provides additional enrichment opportunities.

I am very happy with TPES. My son has ADHD and Aspergers - but he is happy and thriving at this school. He gets support from special educators, but spends most of his time in his regular class - where he has friends and is doing very well academically. I especially want to commend the principal for always going the extra mile to do the best for our son, even when MCPS bureaucracy made this difficult.

I have two kids at TPES. We travel a great distance for my son to go to school for the "magnet" program. If my older son didn't love TPES so much and the teachers, administrators and support staff were not so incredibly dedicated, we would not do the commute. The magnet program has lost a lot of funding, but there are still a lot of high achievers, who push each other. It is challenging for teachers to provide instruction for such a wide spectrum of ability, but I know that my kids are still getting a superior education while studying among a diverse population. There is much more to an education than learning the material presented. I want my children to learn how to work within a population which is diverse in almost every way. At TPES each student is unique and recognized for who they are, not just a number. They are more encouraged to perform than pressured to conform.

We LOVED this school! Staff is great. My daughter had a wonderful and challenging experience there. Can't wait for my son to start kindergarten this year.

This past year TPES had larger classes and a dedicated science teacher. The teaching staff was excellent. Our daughter had the same sub for the 1st 4 months of the school year and thrived. Other parents we spoke with were also pleased with the education their children were receiving. However, most of us agree that there were problems with the principal.
