I just graduated Westland (Class of 2030) and i will truly miss this school. Teachers are funny, kind, caring, charismatic, and openly care about student learning and progress. The teachers make class actually enjoyable and almost no one skips actively wanting to be in class. As a minority, the school has gotten a lot better with making us feel comfortable in school. With clubs like MSP, star lessons, and most admin, security guards, nurses being minorities themselves. At first, this school seemed scary, and at first it can be. But over time you really enjoy and open up to it. At this school it is as bad as you make it. The only people who fail and do bad are class clowns who actively take take pride in watching people enjoy them acting like a fool even if it means suffering academically. The students themselves do not care about class clowns at all, but they are motivated and hard working. Students and teachers often relate to one another as well. The school focuses A LOT and to some people it seems annoying but they focus on hate and bias and ways to counteract that. Being said the school also works hard to ensure people of all backgrounds get quality education. The students here are HIGHLY intelligent often preform well on tests and retain information. More importantly (well in my opinion) the grades and students form a strong sense of community and trust. To the point where you need something and you go to someone in your grade that you have never talked to ever in your life, and ask them for help they will treat you with their full attention,respect, care, like you have been their closest friend from day one. I would recommend this school to all future middle school scholars!

I am a former middle school teacher. I have a special needs son that is on the spectrum but he is adamant to be on grade level and treated like everyone else. He prefers to fly under the radar with his disability and has been very successful with masking behaviors. The teachers understand this characteristic, they respect it, and they really have helped him to reach his full potential. He is doing well in all of his classes, and he loves school for the first time ever. I am so impressed with this school.

my daughter went to this school and as a minority, I would not recommend this school at all I can't get into detail because my post would not get submitted but coming from the inner-city low income wouldn't recommend this school at all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This year was my daughters first year at Westland. She has always been an A student. First there are no books- No reference material or study guides are given for any of her subjects. I am an essential worker and I have to work 40 hours a week. Then when I essentially come home and try to help her /homeschool her there is no math book. I would have to also sit through all of her classes which I can not do. I have had my log in changed twice and has yet to work. I now just use my daughters. I have sent five emails to her teachers and have not heard back from one. I live and pay too much in taxes to allow my daughter to have a wasted year. Interesting that it is safe for doctors and the guy at CVS but not for teachers. I would of thought they saw themselves as essential.......I guess not.

My experience has been outstanding. Not only do my 2 kids enjoy going to school but I felt comfortable knowing the issues students were dealing with were being addressed.
The principal went above and beyond when she brought in an outside speaker Denise DeRosa from Cyber Sensible to discuss things we should be looking for while our kids are online. I cannot think of a more appropriate time than today. I actually reached out to Ms. DeRosa and set up a virtual presentation for a bunch of my neighbors. Some of my neighbors were so impressed with Westland and their children are at private schools.

The principal does an excellent job getting everyone involved. She brings in outside people to give us a great sense of what everyone is dealing with.

Although I know bullying can never be completely be eradicated I do feel that episodes have been addressed quickly and effectively.

I love it here at Westland! This is my second year here and I have already made so many wonderful friends. Many of the teachers that I have had have shown me why a lesson or subject is so interesting and have kept me engaged throughout the years. The community is so caring and I can't wait for 8th grade next year!

The teachers make sure to suit the homework to be students, so that it isn't too difficult or easy.

This is a fantastic school with extremely talented teachers and staff. I've been privy to public and private schools since 1978 and this school really raises the bar. The principal is amazing as are her administrators. My child child is so enriched by this school. Thank you.

This school is the best school that I have ever been to. The school is large, they have great teachers and counseling. Great place to make new friends and learn a lot! Highly recommend this school!

My son has been deeply hurt emotionally by this school, and of course physically attacked by a regular bully, whom the school always protects for unknown reasons. My son is an A student in every way, and always tries his best to please the teachers. But the principal, some staff and some teachers at Westland are not professionally trained, even dishonest at times, they often hurt the kids, rather than helping them. MCPS needs to do something to investigate this school!

There was a time when Westland Middle School was worthy of being the feeder to Bethesda Chevy Chase HS---the jewel of the cluster. But those days are long gone. Westland is now bursting at the seams and comports itself like an over-crowded school. Kids are not just lost-in the shuffle----they are buried. There is no time for teachers or administrators to care about students: teaching is done for test scores, and not to educate. Teachers and staff offer no support, mentorship, motivation, or leadership. If you want your child to get an OK education in a huge, impersonal, uncaring, and disengaged environment, then Westland might be for you.

Westland is great. Sure there are some annoying kids and bad teachers, like at any school but there are lots of really great teacehers everyone has a respect for one another it's diverse, unlike Pyle thats all rich white kids and everyone at Westland seems to be relatively content you should definitely send your child here.
