My experience at Tilden Middle School has been really frustrating. The school feels overcrowded, and the hallways get so packed between classes that it’s stressful just trying to get anywhere on time. The cafeteria is loud and chaotic, and the food usually isn’t good. Classes can feel crowded too, which makes it hard to focus or get help when you actually need it. And also peoples here are raicist and cyberbullying and bullying in real life. And also this rule for putting backpacks in lockers is bad because i want to have my backpack out and also there are some students that can easily get into your lockers so i do not like it. And also this rule for having to take off your hood during PE class i do not like it because sometimes there are students that have bad haircuts or just wants to have there hoods and and there forcing them to take them off so i do not like that rule

Another problem is that the rules sometimes feel inconsistent, and it doesn’t always seem like students’ concerns matter. Some teachers try their best, but overall the environment feels strict and not very enjoyable. Honestly, the school feels so disorganized and frustrating that it doesn’t seem like it could improve much at all. overall i do NOT like this school i do NOT recommend it to your kids or cousins

2 kids has a spectrum 6 grade and 8 grade
Victim of rasisem bullying and they both have IEP and didn't mean anything
serious concerns regarding the safety and well-being of my children at school. Both of my children, in the 6th and 8th grades, have been victims of racist and bullying, which is unacceptable. Despite having Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in place, it is disheartening to see that their safety and emotional well-being are not being adequately addressed.
As a parent, it is distressing to hear that my children are facing such experiences at school and that their safety is compromised. Every child deserves a safe and inclusive learning environment, and it is evident that this is currently not the case for my children.

My son entered sixth grade. White, but with curly hair, he was harassed by other boys throughout his time at school. When I told him to ask for help he said he had already asked and no one did anything, when I said I would communicate he begged saying it would be worse. He suffered physical and verbal aggression for 1 and a half years until the day he retaliated and hit another boy. He got a suspension and I was sure at that moment that the prejudice against immigrants came from professionals who aggravated what children already bring home. A structural problem that needs to be resolved and this can only be achieved with efficient management prepared to care for teenagers. Bad experience for my son and other immigrants who suffer from the reality at Tilden.

If you care about your child, don't put him in this school! Management omission, my son was bullied at this school for 1 year, nothing was done, he has depression, anxiety and panic attacks, he is taking medication, therapy, he developed nervous gastritis. We are changing addresses, changing schools, spending horrible money on doctors and hospital stays for my son.
They took away the beautiful smile my son had, he is traumatized.
I hope that the management of the school is changed, because knowing that there are still children suffering there makes us very sad.
At the MCPS meeting there were only Tilden mothers, very sad!

My son sis for second year in this school. We came from European country and the education here and in my country is completely. the first year was very hard for my son and my, without english, without friends and any information for the school system. But the teacher and the staff are very nice. They help me and my son a lot. The Communication with staff and teacher is great. We got emails for everything that it will be at school. The kids have time for fun and learning. This year me and my son Love our teacher. She is yang and very creative, she is send email every Sunday with all information about the next week. The only think that I don't like is that only book for homework that we have is only for Math. And i never know what actually my son studies in his English classes, his Science classes, his social study classes. And I felt completely uninformed and isolated from what was studied in school. My son he does not speak with me about his classes and I am uninformed about what they studied there. If i can offer them just to give the parent more information class by class what the kids study in every class. The community is very nice.Big families, nice location, it is close to a lot of parks, a lot of shops, restaurants and etc.

I graduated the original Tilden (Jr High) in 1978, so now I'm older than most of my teachers at the time. Teachers at the time were extremely dedicated to their craft.

Some of the school staff, teachers do not show respect, patience to students and parents. Behave mean and rude.

My child went to this school a few years ago, first coming there for a program in which a 5th grader from a feeder elementary learned a more advanced level math at Tilden, and then started full time as a 6th grader. The first year, my daughter's math teacher was the one to really make an impact on my opinion of the school. The teacher was amazing, 'fully qualified as an instructor' and also generally a 'good teacher' that the students actually liked. The principle is also wonderful, although so far I haven't been able to become very involved in my child's education.

My son attended Tilden and we generally liked this school. It is a little stiff on the discipline and isn't shy in placing kids in the detention. Still excellent learning opportunities, very international crowd and interesting curriculum.

I'm in eighth grade, and I like this school a lot. Bullying is pretty much unheard of in my grade, and everyone, both teachers and students, are welcoming and friendly. The teachers are also really excellent, and often check up on individual students to make sure they are doing their best. I do the drama productions at this school (so excited for Cats this spring!) and can say that they are pretty awesome. Mr. Shaw, the director of the shows, is...........well... he's unique. You kind of have to meet him. He's an excellent teacher, though, and he really cares about his students. So... yeah that's about it. I recommend this school.

Tilden Middle School is a terrific place. The teachers and administration are very supportive, smart and focused. The children are nice. The quality of education and the personal attention that the children get is very high. They have a terrific program for children with Asperger's.

As middle schools go, this one is a winner. The curriculum, the activities, and electives offered are top notch. The staff is supportive and really cares about the students.

  • What did you dislike? They are in the process of building a new school as the current building is very old. They have a plan in place to build a new school but it will take a few years.
