They love your kid during count day but don't advocate not offer any supports or responses when they need faculty. They will push your kid along to adulthood uneducated and unskilled. The teachers are under-educated and the other employees are trying to just pay bills. This is by far one of the worst and passive virtual schools in Michigan. Call Lansing so they can shut it down. BEWARE!!!

It's a joke!!! Our daughter was bullied horrible and the school did NOTHING!! All they did was move pods and that was it! Oh and the bullying was by a teacher! No help for her IEP...I sent in paperwork for her IEP and they lost it. We got fed up and moved her to a different online school. Do yourself a favor and RUN from this school! It's not helpful to the students. They pass kids that have failing grades...how is that helping kids? This used to be a good school...but not now!

First, I'll say my son has an extensive IEP. We moved, so our K12 school option changed. My complaint is not with K12 but with this particular school.

The number of classes daily was 5 hours or more and the coursework was challenging compared to our experience with a brick-and-mortar school (they state this up front).

My issue is the support we didn't receive with my son's IEP. He was not offered any accommodations or exemptions and I was excluded in communication emails between the teachers and my student. Two weeks before school ended, all of the work was closed. Typically in the past, my student was able to work at a slower pace and have time extensions due to the IEP.

If your student needs extra help, more accommodation, or a bit of leniency with workload and they have an IEP, I would suggest you look elsewhere.

Thank God for K12 and Michigan Great Lakes Virtual Academy. My daughter is in 4th grade and for the first time, absolutely loves school. She loves her classes. She loves seeing all of her assignments completed daily. Shes excited to login everyday. I've seen such a dramatically positive change in my child and her education. We were at such a loss with the traditional education options available to us, and I can't thank these platforms enough for the beautiful opportunity given to our family.

This school is a joke! Attendance policy is not enforced. They allow our son (that is 18 and chose to leave home, yet I am still his learning coach) to not attend classes at all and is allowed to turn in assignments late consistently. After many times of expressing our concerns to the school about his attendance. We have had no resolution. How is this helping our son learn that you must work hard to be successful in life? They will no doubt allow him to graduate undeservingly. Maybe reporting the school to the state might do something. I am beyond disappointed and frustrated with MGLVA. Its just so wrong to put school funding before the actual education a child.

Let us start at the beginning. We looked into MGLVA after having had a very bad year at Insight school of Michigan (another k-12 school). After talking with the admissions at MGLVA they assured us that what happened at Insight would not happen with them and that they were dedicated to helping and lifting up students that did not fit the regular public school model. Well like the old saying goes" IF IT SOUNDS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE...."

My child has an IEP my child was told by her teachers what course work needed to be completed to pass the class, so my child worked really hard and put the effort in to get it done only to have the Principal of the school override the teacher and fail my child!

Believe it or not this is not an isolated case. After talking to other parents that also had students with IEP's or special ed needs it seems that this is a K-12 inc problem not just a school here or there. What is even more outragous is that K-12 inc. gets extra money for every IEP or special ed student they have so they actively recruit students and parents in need to boost their bottom line.
Were is the oversight! Were is the Inspector General going over the books of K-12inc and making sure that if they are receiving extra money from the tax payers that the money is being used to help the students.

Stay away from any and all K-12inc schools if you have an IEP or have any Special ed needs.

Before you sign up for a school make sure you talk to other parents and get a real picture of the school.
Just remember "IF IT SOUNDS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE......"

I enrolled my son into the 6th grade classes the second semester last school year and my daughter into the 10th grade due to bad experiences with the school system here. In the beginning I felt I was in over my head, I did't know how to find my student number, log into required links and class connects so I called customer support quite often! Each time they were helpful ONCE I learned what numbers I should call! All our teachers answered all question asked and provided helpful resources when needed. The class connects can become a bit over demanding more so for high school kids HOWEVER they can be adjusted if you notify the teachers in advance. There are options for field days, students can join clubs fit for their interests (first time my kids had this choice) and I feel over all they are getting a better education with MGLVA then they have in past years. There are groups on social media where you can talk to other learning coaches to gain further information and ideas from those who are currently or were enrolled in one of many k12 programs.

Took way too long to set up! I finally set forget it and put my kids into traditional school! The phone support isn't very helpful either, every time you talk to them they give you a different start date. I moved to Michigan from Illinois and this program wasn't helpful AT ALL! I started the process in sept and was still getting yanked around in Nov! 1st start date was Oct 20th then the 27th then the 3rd of Nov and finally the 10th of Nov before I told them FORGET IT!

My name is Sharhonda and my daughter is just starting 2nd semester 6th grade. So i'm writing based upon our enrollment process thus far. I will post again later. So my daughter starts Jan. 13th. I read a lot of bad reviews about the K12 program now this was not necessarily from michigan reviews. However, I am in michigan and my daughter is starting with Michigan Great lakes Virtual academy which is a new school withing the K12 system for michigan. I must say K12 has been very informative. I was also apply ing for Michigan Connections and through the process I liked things about both programs but preferred MC academy because of the grading and a teacher for each subject. But I found MC to be not as informative on my questions and the curriculum. K12 always answered my questions with great enthusiasm and honesty. They even got back with me and called me during my enrollment process. So I enrolled in both schools leaning toward MC however, they lost all my paper work and asked me to re-fax. MGLVA received all paper work right off no bumps smooth sailing. I paid 13 dollars to fax over that paper work so i did not care for that so we enrolled in MGLVA. MC never apologized either.
