This school has been the worst school that I have ever been to, and I have been to more than six schools. This is the least welcoming school, and almost impossible to make friends unless you do dumb things for people to laugh about. The counselors do not care about whether you have a problem or not because they have too many kids to deal with. The school has so many things happening in a month that they can't deal with them in a proper way. Every few weeks, there is a lockdown because something happens. I have never had to walk outside to get to my classes at any other school, and I walk about 4,000 steps each day just to get there. They cannot figure out the transportation system; my bus stop has changed, and my bus is running for no good reason. The worst part is just the hour-long bus ride in the afternoons. I have to wake up at 6:00 a.m. to barely make it on the bus. I have only had a fw decnt days, and those were mainly at the beginning of the school year. I sit alone at lunch each day; nobody allows me to sit at their table or invites me to. But I understand some of these things are just part of high school. I should have gone to Park Hill High School because I am 20 minutes closer to there than away from Platte County.

Platte county was one of the worst schools I’ve been too we we’re constantly in the news for some racial thing or a school threat, most teachers there were jokes, if you are considering moving there, don’t the only good thing I will say was our football team but that’s it

This school has really good people in it, however, that can be said for most schools the staff and the rules are ridiculous and they can't seem to get anything done correctly. There are drugs and lots of bullying everywhere in this school. Most of the students are in little gangs and they bully and hate each other. I moved here in 7th grade and it seems to be a problem with the whole town. In the end, there is no support little to no diversity, or fun. People here are mostly awful and mean. So yeah avoid this school like the plague its horrible!

I can't speak for everyone's experience, but I can speak from our own. This school system comes from a small town atmosphere, where frankly everyone sticks to themselves and can be either closed off, standoffish, or stuck up. It is really hard for the students to connect to others in this system unless they either play sports or know lots of people. Plan on getting really involved in this town if you want to be accepted. The teachers in the high school do not care much about the students success here. My child asked them for help several times and felt like the teacher did not help them efficiently and even didn't care; even said one of the teachers said they were just teaching there to coach(which I heard was why many teachers were there) My child said they seen a lot of drug activity in this school. There are a lot of instances where the children feel depressed in this school. Many of the students do not like it there and put up with it to get out. I would find out the drop out rate of this school. When I did speak to the principle about my child's struggles and I do feel he did a good job in trying to help them fix them. But overall, I do not think it is the principles fault, kids fault, or maybe even the district. I just feel this school is very disconnected with the teachers, each other, and the students. Overall, I think they need more structure, work eithic, and variety of things they offer to bring the school together in a more positive way. Its a shame really their motto is platte pride but you really don't feel any here.

Waited 2 hours in the lobby even though I had an appointment with the principal. While waiting 2 other parents left with similar issues. This is not a school to send college bound children, this school is primarily for children who want to be small town football, band, cheerleading stars.

Small town mentality if you aren't prom queen or king the principal doesn't know your name even if you are a bright flight student.

I spoke with the principal about bullying by students and its teachers indifference to the bullying and nothing happened. One of the students bullying my child gave a speech at graduation.

The school implements programs to teach students about bullying behaviors and what to do if you see bullying happen. The have proactive class discussions to try and stop bullying before it starts.

I have 2 children who attend Platte County Schools. After temporarily moving away we choose to move back specifically BECAUSE we loved the school district so much. The staff and administration are amazing. My kids will go no where else.

Be very careful before moving here. Read the actual test scores for these schools and compare to others in the area. The district sugar coats the information as much as possible. If they rank last in the area on a certain subject they just don't publish it. If there score is high they put it everywhere. As of 2012 the kids at PCHS do worse in some subjects than the state average. We just noticed this after it was brought up in one of the local papers. Platte County is a nice area but DO NOT move here for the schools. Many other options with in KC area with much better schools. UPDATE for 2016 state test scores the district did not test students who they thought would not pass in Math. Raising Alg I scores from 72 to 96% making it look like they are doing better than they are. 50 students were not tested. They quit testing in Geometry and Am History as several subjects were at or below State averages. Academics are the same but they are learning to manipulate the system and rankings like the ones on this website.

As in all schools you have good and bad teachers. There just seems to be more of an emphasis on having good coaches that teach instead of good teachers that coach. Especially in Football and Wrestling.

Homework only now counts towards 5% of the total grade so students blow it off.

Wont get your moneys worth. District just went over 90 million in debt with just 3800 students. Great football program, great wrestling program wonderful band. To bad kids don't make a living in these areas. Chemistry I class for 2014-15 school year no labs. Per previous comment a check of all area schools shows that only one district does not test Algebra I in 8th grade with one district testing all 8th graders. Double check excuse makers. Starting to be a waiting list at the few private schools in the area. Great school district ten years ago. Decline started about five years ago hopefully it will get corrected for the sake of home values.

PCHS is a solid high school that performs well academically and offers a top notch fine arts program. The academic ratings provided by great schools and referenced in another comment are basic and very limiting. For example, PCHS looks to perform below the state avg in Algebra 1. This is only because the district offers Algebra I at 8th grade and more than half the 8th graders take it there.....so their scores are not registered at PCHS. Most districts in MO are too small to provide algebra at 8th grade.....so PCHS is "penalized' for doing a good thing for kids. Do your own research. You will find they are much better than a "7". They also have solid improvement plan. They are good and getting better.

We moved here 2 years ago. I have a child in Paxton and Siegrist. There is a need to consolidate buildings or build new in the district. With so many buildings there is too many administrators bogging down the ability for the district to adapt quickly to new and current educational learning for the kids. These two school do not have technology class as a special. They are VERY behind in teaching technology compared to other districts. I have noticed also they are teaching subjects and topics at least a year behind our previous districts back east.
