Wentworth is NOT what is advertised ! It is a place where a student can achieve a diploma if there are no other viable options, if the parents can afford the costs. Student accountability is performed almost hourly. Drug and pregnancy tests (for an additional fee) are administrated monthly. The library is poor to non-existent. The teachers are poor to fair (largely) but there are a few good instructors. The enrichment activities and clubs are pictures in a yearbook. The college admission tests scores are equivalent to a low-income urban school. The colleges that some students do go onto attend are generally third tier academically / scholastically. The credit hours do not easily transfer, thus often trapping a student until the graduation course work is completed. The school was more of a top drawer academic and sports institution 100 years ago, to which the student recruiters often reference.

Me moved our daughter from the local schools and Wentworth has been great. In her case she wanted a better education than the local schools could provide to assure she get s into the college of her choice. The only challenge we have had is on the military side of the house since she has no plans of joining the military. The instructors are great and the class sizes are small. Overall we are very happy.

My son began atteding Wentworth last year and now he is going to finish 11th grade in another military academy. It is the best thing it could happen him. The school is simply mediocre. Mediocre classes, teachers, facilities, sports, barracks, almost about everything. The school is definetly not as nice as it is shown in the pictures of the school brochure. There are only two sports one can attend: football or physical training (where the only thing you do in classes is running). Highschool students can not go to the gym or swim. Teaching system is no good. Barracks need painting, the heating system is bad. And there are so many stories that assure the school is haunted, this is known by all students. Please look for another choice for your son. Mine is doing great in the other school, simply no point of comparisson.

Our son is one of those troubled kids. Because we live far from town and we are very strict he not gotten into any serious trouble prior to sending him to Wentworth. He had always functioned well in highly structured situation so we thought military school might be a good choice for him. Wentworth however was not. We hold our son responsible for everything he did to get kicked out of Wentworth, 100% responsible. Our complaint is that there was too much unstructured, unsupervised time, especially on a co-ed campus. The school does not communicate with the parents about behavior problems. Unless the behavior led to a medical concern (then we would get a call from the nurse) we were frequently not informed for days or even weeks after the incident. I firmly believe that this has more to do with the wording of the contract and that they are more concerned about money than they are the welfare of the children in their care. We cannot recommend this school. There is no discipline. If your child needs a more structured learning environment continue your search. Academics are fair, though there are a couple of teachers that I believe are outstanding.
