Our daughter had a great experience at South valley and enjoyed going to school here . I don’t know where all the bad reviews are coming from because that was not the experience we saw or what we saw or experienced going on while she was there. The staff was great and caring .

i am a current student at south valley middle school and im just here to say that i would not recommend this school at all, all though they do care about students mental health a little all they do a show one video about it throughout the whole school year. In my first year at svms i was bullied a lot and i know the teachers heard and saw it because they were looking and listening they didnt do anything about it. The staff lies to you, they will send your parents emaila calling them, they would tell you “its a safe space, everything will stay in this room” but then later call your parents getting you in trouble, the day after that they will act like your best friend like nothing happened. They will get you in trouble for recording your own safety and youll get ISS for it, they said “the teacher was there you didnt need to record” so they called the parents but the teacher didnt see anything, i was right next to what happened and another kid got in trouble for watching and he was blamed for it when it wasent him, so the teachers/bus driver no they dont see everything because they dont have eyes on the back of their head, you dont let us explain what really happened we still get in trouble no matter. The teacher’s favorite student so if you get in a argument with them for a fight, the teacher will pick their side no matter what you say. They are kicking my friend out of the school because one of her houses is in raytown and another is in the school district but they still kicked her out, when she cleared her locker and went to go tell her teacher a kid was making fun of her for crying that she got kicked out, the teacher didnt do anything about it and did not care whatsoever. The teachers wont care about what you say, they always think their right even if they arent, they wont let you explain your answer and if you amswer like “Hey your not supposed to be doing that” and the students gives them a reason why they should that student will get in trouble for having an ‘attitude’ and answeing a question of what their doing, that is what happened.

While I think this school is pretty decent education-wise I strongly feel that some staff should not be employed at this school, at least in the position they are in. Throughout my 7 years of experience with SVMS I have had two of my grandchildren have bad experiences with one of the principals. A few years ago I remember picking up my grandkid from school and she was quite upset about a situation where her principal was lying about something my grandkid said. Even after she corrected him and told him about 2 other kids that heard what she said he still tried to punish my grandchild for something she did not say, and I know she did not say what he was accusing her of because when we got to her parents house she showed me the video her friend had been recording on her iPad where they were discussing one of her teacher’s methods of teaching and the assignment they were doing. From start to finish of the conversation not once did my grandchild say something mean about the teacher, which this principal did not agree with. Another situation that sticks out to me is when the same principal called my grandkid “weird” for something he was doing in class that was disturbing the teacher at the time. To be specific, he was biting his nails. I know that we have to take what kids, specifically middle-schoolers, say with a grain of salt but considering my daughter (my grandchild’s mom) was on the phone when this happened, I did not. I have never met any of the staff at this school but based off the many stories I have heard, I would rather not.

I'm a current student here and I'm shocked that SVMS has as many bad reviews as it does, but they all seem to be from YEARS ago. So I thought, why not give a newer perspective? I had some issues with bullying in my 6th grade year, but they were handled by staff as fast as possible. It took me a while to finally speak up about my problem, and nobody seemed to notice what was happening during the actual bullying. All I had to do was voice my issue to a teacher and it was taken care of. A piece of advice i would give to future students is to not be afraid to ask for help. Bad things like this could happen to any school, but SVMS staff's arms are always open wide.

My daughter is in 8th grade and she started svms in 6th. I LOVE the staff! I feel like they go above and beyond our expectations! Middle school is hard, the teachers and programs they offer make is amazing!

Not very much. Maybe an hour a week. But, with kids busy after school activities, it's perfect for us.

They look for students modeling these traits and award them with a special breakfast and ceremony. They may do more, but this is what I've seen first hand.

My daughter is in her second semester of 6th grade. I had to leave a review because these comments left here could not be farther than the truth! We are loving the teachers and staff here! Technology use is great, lunches are good, students are happy, friendly and helpful! They go above and beyond to make sure all kids find their niche and encourage them to be successful academically and ethically with monthly award breakfasts highlighting achievements in both. They are trying to teach the kids responsibility and to take personal responsibility and because of such will not allow excuses, so kids will have consequences as they go through this process. However, that's part of getting them ready for high school! :)

South Valley Middle School is more concerned with processes than the kids themselves. The staff targets students, dishes out excessive punishment and has no regard for the emotional well being of their students. There are some very rude teachers and it seems like the leadership at the school all have attitudes.

This school is awful. The principals and most staff members do not seem to care for the students and the students do not respect the teachers whatsoever. From what I have heard the lunches are terrible, but that should not come as a surprise because it is a school lunch. I am glad my child will be leaving next year to go to Liberty North High School
