We had a few amazing teachers, otherwise I'd give this school one star.
One teacher screamed at kids, made fun of them, and had this demeaning behavior chart on her board. Kids who were in the "green" all week got a prize. My child knew he struggled to sit quietly, so he was often in the "yellow" as were most of the boys. What boys sit quietly at 7 years old? Not many...
After a particularly good week for him when he was green all week, he went to get his prize and she laughed at him in front of the class and told him to go away. He's a high schooler now and he still remembers how ashamed he felt that day.
The emotional trauma your kid will experience isn't worth the language skills they'll pick up. Their written French will be so bad they'll still have to learn it all in a high school class anyways.

We have been a family of Academie Lafayette for 5 years. It has been a wonderful experience for our family. The teachers have been warm and kind each year. My children have learned about other cultures because their teachers have such diverse backgrounds. The French Immersion has been amazing to see transform my oldest throughout the years. She is nine and fairly fluent in the language.
There is sometimes a breakdown in communication (mainly due to may teachers not having English as a first language). Leadership also falls into that.
We often have to rely on parent: parent to figure things out, but those bonds become strong. We really are a community.

We have had an exceptional experience at Al over the last three years. We have found the teaching staff to be excellent and the leadership and communication is 2nd to none. We are excited to have our son there next year as a Kinder. Excellent school

Our experience has been outstanding. This school is not perfect. None are. But over the past 5 years we have had stellar teachers and a kid who does not resist going to school. We have been very impressed with the school's efforts at managing education through the pandemic and are happy to have found a school home that will take us through high school graduation. We highly recommend the education and experience.

Sadly, I agree with everything the original parent wrote. I would love to keep my child at this school if it weren't for my concerns of depression and anxiety setting in due to the very insensitive, critical teaching style. Yelling by the teachers is accepted as is shaming students and encouraging students to do the same.

Some teachers give an amount of homework that is so developmentally inappropriate for the age of the children they teach. While not all teachers will do this, there are no guidelines set, meaning that different classes of the same grade level will receive very different amounts of work.

There are some absolutely amazing teachers, but we also had two horrible teachers. If you get a good teacher, count yourself lucky. If you get an ineffective or mean teacher, don't expect the administration to care at all. Some teachers bully and make fun of kids in front of the entire class. Expect anxiety and fear from your child, although he/she might get those coveted great test scores.

When teachers belittle and make fun of children directly in front of the class, what message does that send? Boys, especially boys of color, are not treated the same as the girls.

Academie Lafayette used to be an amazing school, but the leadership here is ruining it. Sadly, the school board does not care that they need to get rid of the head person and some of the principals. They look good on paper, but the reality is very different.

This is a one size fits all experience. If your child learns they way they teach (sit down, be quiet, do a worksheet - or 10) then your child will have a good experience. If your child has special needs, don't expect much. If your child is gifted, expect that he or she will sit there teaching other kids. If your child needs to do something a different way, don't get your hopes up. Modifications might be suggested, or even required, but most of the time, this doesn't happen.

Bullying is everywhere, and nothing is done to stop it. Certain teachers make fun of kids, so what model does that set? Kids get away with terribly mean things, because the adults ignore it and tell the bullied kid just to ignore the others.

We had a few amazing teachers, but anxiety and self-doubt were a real issue. We had a teacher who regularly screamed (not exaggerating) at our 6 year old child. At 6 years old, children should love their teacher and love learning, but this was not our experience at all. There are some truly loving and amazing teachers in the building, but we have seen a large staff turnover. Often the teachers we hoped to get quit, sometimes replaced by lesser quality teachers.
