We moved into the area at the beginning of 2025, so I didn't find out until later from the locals that this school has a terrible reputation. I had 3 children enrolled in this school at the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year. 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade. The school had toured so well, and I was really excited to send the kids there. The tour was misleading. The administration is an unorganized mess, that does not communicate well with families nor care. The dean they had was particularly terrible. The punishments were dolled out across entire classes or grades for just a few children misbehaving. I watched in carline once as my daughter (and the rest of her 3rd grade, had to walk laps for 30 minutes in silence). I found out from her later that a few kids at a different lunch table had been disruptive, so the whole grade was punished and had their recess taken away. This type of punishment across the board started happening a few times a week. When I reached out about my concerns they were tersely dismissed. My kids started dreading going to school. Not just the normal kid thing where they always whine that they "hate" school. I'm talking crazy meltdowns, and almost panic attack type dread.

To be fair, 5th grade wasn't as bad, my daughter had a great math and a science teacher she absolutely loved, but the school culture was so toxic she still dreaded school. The 3rd grade and 1st grade teachers we had were truly awful. My kids are straight A "good kids"- the kind that listen, get their work done, and are usually not in trouble, yet they were scared of their teachers because they were so mean and disrespectful. They told me they didn't want to go to school because they were always being punished for things they didn't do, even though the teachers knew they hadn't done anything. I pulled my kids mid year and homeschooled until I was able to get 2 of them into wake prep. The difference was night and day. The kids were so much better off, and anxiety improved drastically. Stay away from this school unless the admin changes and the school culture improves. It was terrible.

Last year was my first year here, at first everything was going normally. As the days went by my reality changed since I began to see that teachers do not have enough patience to teach or treat children, nor do they provide any support for children who are in special needs. They scold and sanction bullying victims and do not punish and draw attention to children who do so. Classmates don't help either, every day it's a novelty about bullying and very bad behavior in the classroom. The rules within the school do not make sense, and what should be worried about such as the well-being of the child and education do not. Definitely the worst school year.

Needs a much better school environment, it is toxic. School caused my son extreme anxiety. His teacher was a bully and would embarrass my 7 year old in front of all the students and tell him to stop crying wolf and then ask the class if they think he was crying wolf. Very unprofessional and was not safe for my son. Also seems like my son wasnt the only one in the class with anxiety due to the teacher and school environment. His teacher took recess away almost everyday due to one kid being bad. I know in NC that is not allowed. School took all fun events away and the principal dismantled the PTA. There where no field trips anymore. No more parent volunteers in the school which says you are hiding something. Thats a big reason we went to the school loved the idea of volunteering especially in the class. My son always said how afraid he was going to the school. Social worker didnt help and made it worse. Since pulling him from the school he is much much happier and excelling in all classes. No more anxiety and enjoying learning again and having fun. This school environment is extremely toxic for kids and taking him out was the best decision we could have made for him.

We just pulled my son in January. He is in 2nd grade and was in the school since kindergarten. Kindergarten was good but after that the school started going downhill more. They got rid of all the fun things and it is strictly just school work. My son got his recess taken away everday do to kids that have behavioral issues in his class. They do nothing fun for the kids anymore. The school was supposed to be voted on being renewed in January but that got postponed because they are under an ATSI Additional Targeted Support and Improvement. So they cannot official get renewed until they show improvement. If they dont improve they can be at risk of being shut down. My son had so much anxiety in this school where we couldnt even get him out of the car cause he kept saying how he was afraid. I believe the school environment is not good and toxic to the kids. The schools makes it look good from the outside bit in reality we dont know what really goes on all day inside. A lot of his friends where also pulled this year that he knew since kindergarten for similar reasons. The school made it look like they were helping him but seems like the opposite. They took away all the parent volunteering in the classrooms. Which was always a big benefit with charter schools. Sounds like they dont want parents knowing whats going on inside. Which was a big reason we originally chose this school. We liked you can volunteer a lot. But not anymore. And there is no longer a PTA to put together any special events. The principal took that away because of one person. So now no events get planned. The principle has pretty much taken away everything for kids to enjoy the school days. They no longer do field trips for the kids either. Some of the teachers did try an really help my son. But his own teacher and the social worker and principle didnt help much. Eventually they told us there was nothing they can do, but They allow other kids to nap in the classrooms and do not discipline the bad kids. When my son tried to take a 2 minute break because ELA is 3 hours without a break. The teacher told him to get back to work and got mad. Meanwhile the other kid was napping in the class. The good kids are the ones that seem to get punished for what the bad kids do. One kid who has behavior issues in his class was supposed to have an aid all the time. The school wouldnt provide one and he would flip desks and hit the teacher. Not a safe school.

I have gone here since 5th grade, and I would say that my experience certainly has its own ups and downs. Learning wise, this school is great. The teachers teach in an understandable way, and I would recommend this school for education. Teaching-wise, the teachers do raise their voices and get unreasonably angry. We are expected to have our shirts tucked in and be on our best behavior.

The lunch time in the school, well, for at least middle schoolers, is pretty short. We have a 30-minute lunch period in which we sit down and eat for about 10-15 minutes. After the school realized it was a problem and the scholars told the teachers, I would say it has increased by around 5 minutes. In the social-emotional aspect, this school is great! Scholars encouraged their peers and helped them if anything was wrong. In the special education aspect, all scholars are very supportive and act with great kindness towards special education students. In the safety aspect, the school has hired people who don't meet the standards of education. As a matter of fact, there was a teacher who had been arrested for identity theft. Drills are conducted accordingly and neatly.

As for the family engagement aspect, I would say it's pretty good. The school has encouraged parents to come to the parent-teacher conferences. After reading the reviews, one important thing that I noticed was that the problem was the carpool. The carpool line is extremely slow, but you must keep in mind that this is a K-8 school, meaning that students throughout K-8 will be dismissing during this time. If you come at, for example, 3:15, the line will be very long, and you'll get out at around 3:40. My guardian comes around at a later time, near 4:00 (which is when carpool is about to end), and it gets super fast by then because no one is there. The school lunch, in my opinion, is pretty solid. Good food occasionally, some days it might be bland. I have read a lot of these reviews, and there have been frequent mentions of bullying. In my experience at this school, I have not witnessed bullying. However, I'm going to be completely honest and say that bullying is often not obvious, so I can't give a good opinion on it.

If you're planning to send your kid here, good luck. You'll need it. Here, you have to solve a math problem. If you get it right, then you pass. If you don't, then well, you know what happens. No- I'm kidding about that part. Overall, great school, but everyone's experience differs. -8th Grader

This was by far the worst school my son had ever attended. They gave everyone computers and hardly taught without them. They weren't locked down at all either. The principal avoided talking to parents and even ignored the head office of NHA when complaints were filed. It was a weekly occurrence that a parent was upset and couldn't get in to see her. The assistant principal was better about communication. The carpool situation was horrible all year and just run poorly. An substitute teacher threatened my son because her daughter and he didnt get along in class and after waiting over 2 hours to talk to the principal, she was shocked when I said I wanted the teacher to apologize to my son, and the teacher refused to do so .

We couldn't get away from this school fast enough.

Weve been at this school for 2 years. At first we were excited about this school for our child but weve been constantly disappointed. The communication is horrible. Teachers respond half the time and the principal never wants to talk to a parent. They also are very centered on technology, even when they dont need to be. They dont care about student safety and cover up everything and keep it quiet from parents. This past year they dont even want parents to volunteer and have taken away 90% of extra curricular activities. The current principal is bringing the school down and the teachers are leaving left and right, even throughout the school year. It should tell you something if teachers don't wait until the end of the year to leave and the school is still accepting students when all the other schools have wait lists up in the 300s. I really wanted to have a great school for my kids but unfortunately Im doing a disservice to them by being here.

Love this school. My son will be going into his 3rd school year in August. He has been at wake forest charter academy since kindergarten. He has grown so much with the help and support of the staff. He loves all his teachers and has learned so much in his time at the school so far. It is also nice that they also allow a lot of parent involvement and it definitely helps to get to know the staff as a parent. This school as been the best school for my son and I cant say enough great things about his learning experience and support he has been given. The teachers And staff definitely care about the childrens education and push them to do and be the best.

My son has been at wake forest charter for 2 years. It has been an amazing experience. I feel alot of people do not understand charter schools. If you want your child to succeed It is a 50/50 partnership between you and the school. My son has had so much support with the staff the last 2 years. Even when he has a down time or may get discouraged the school has stepped up and helped my son through. As parents we are very involved in my sons learning and communication with the school which has helped my son tremendously. There is always going to be issues at every school no matter how great the school is. Its how the school handles it that is important. Our experience with wake forest charter has been nothing but great and we definitely have the teachers and staff to thank for it. Principal Barringer has been a great addition to the school this year. She is firm but very fair and she gets the job done. She knows how to operate a successful school and make sure the students are getting a great education and also keeps them safe!

I hate writing negative reviews, but I truly think it's my responsibility to do it. Please do not subject your child to endure the damage that this school creates. We are trying to reverse all the damage caused by this school at the moment. I read the reviews before taking my child here and I thought that this simply would not be my child's experience. It turned out that I should made a wiser decision and stay away from this school. My child was broken in every way possible. Bullying is a REAL experience here. From students AND teachers. Huge learning loss happened and emotional damage that we are now struggling with. Every school has issues, but this one is truly problematic. Stay away. Do NOT think your experience will be different. STAY AWAY. Home school if you must but do your child a favor and STAY AWAY. I do not want another parent to make the same mistake as I did. (I can not give a review for special ed because we did not use this service) We are so happy that we are leaving. My child feels so much relief that this part of his life has come to a close. I promise to never put my child through an experience like this again.

In my experience this school is amazing. Since I came here I have only gone here and want to stay here, but sadly it only goes up to 8th grade. The teachers are kind, very helpful, and rarely ever harsh. There is only at max 1 bullying accident per year if there are any. In just my 7th grade class there are 25 students doing high school level things(there are 30 students in my class).

Me and my kids are happy with this school I dont know why there is a lot of negative comments. I want to say something about bullying once my kid was bullied by a student so i didnt get involved i let the teachers, dens, and the principal to take the decision and they did the right thing my daughter said she never saw that kid again in the school. Do not send you child to this school if he or she has an IEP. I unenrolled my child this year after a series of run arounds, refusing to provide accommodations, and suggestions of "this school not being a fit for my child". The school had the worse and unresponsive administration. The school is also made up of substitute teachers.

My child has been attending elementary school here for a year, and so far, no issues. She always speaks positively about the school and teachers, and I am satisfied with what I have witnessed. Do not send your student here. The school is incredibly insufficient on the majority of fronts.

Your student will be bullied by others, with little to no intervention done. Especially if they are in any category of being "different". You as a parent will not hear about it being an issue until your child has a meltdown or nervous breakdown because they want it to stop.

If your child has learning disabilities or special needs, expect them to not get what they need. This school cannot hold onto a special education teacher for more than two months. They've gone through three special ed teachers this year alone. Your student will just wind up sitting in the principal's office instead of, at the very least, being in their class. Not to mention the fact their IEP is so poorly crafted and implemented, it makes you wonder if they even try. The ONLY exception to this is the Speech Therapy teacher who gives you proper outlines for where your learner is, what they are working on, and where they are in terms of their goals. ALL OF THE OTHER rubrics are just based off of imaginary percentages and accuracies without identifying what the student's needs are. In our case, my learner is reading at a grade level below his own, which impacts his math scores because the majority of problems are word problems. Beyond that, even after your IEP meeting and if any discussion is had on Extended School Year (summer school) services, they will just say no. Meanwhile we see his regression.

The grades you get at the end of the year are not indicative of what their actual progress is. The teachers will say they're getting A's or B's meanwhile their state scores will leave you unimpressed. If my learner is getting A's in class but only scoring a 26% on the state test in that same subject, then something's wrong and someone is lying. The dishonesty is the most apparent thing. On top of that, when you get your student's grades at certain times they will make sure to include flyers for donations and to pressure your kids into asking you to donate.

The school also wastes time by teaching a "moral focus" where your learner will see a word like "compassion" or "kindness" instead of learning something actually useful. The advertisements also push how they outscore everyone in the district, or they offer a plethora of programs. My nephew who is falling behind somehow didn't qualify for extra help and tutoring the school was "offering" saying he "didn't qualify". Just don't go here.

This school is full of bullies and kids with behavioral issues that the school simply refuses to effectively control. There is a tremendously high turn-over rate of teachers and the upper administration wants to blame them for their lack of dedication. Its the upper admin that has ran off all their dedicated and devoted teachers with their total over-saturation of work and zero support. The teacher student ratio is excessive and theyre still accepting new students half way through the year! Many teachers rule by instilling fear and talk to their students like dogs. Dont let the facade of uniforms and high test scores fool you. This school only cares about checking boxes and looking good on paper. Do your kids a favor and look elsewhere.

My son is in middle school and transferred from a private school in a completely different county. I found the transition to be very smooth. Admittedly I was on high alert and was not sure what to expect moving from a small private school. The teachers were very approachable and any issue I had was immediately addressed. There was quite a bit of turnover due to COVID and salary issues but fortunately my son kept all of his teachers. I did notice a large number of parents not supporting teachers. For example when COVID numbers were high teachers required children to take home Chrome books in the event virtual school occurred. Many parents were upset they had to keep (parent) children off of the internet at home. Some children were unruly and distracted from the environment and I felt more discipline was needed.

This is a trashy school. They have janitiors but if they never clean why have them? When we had a home basketball game we went to the gym and were warming up. There was dust everywhere. No janitors were to be found. There was food everywhere on the floor, dust bunnies and trash.

Terrible school. No leadership. Bullying. Physical violence. Moral focus doesnt mean anything because teacher are contradicting what they preach. We had to transfer and it was the best decision. A lot of behavioral problems in the classroom on a daily basis and nothing is being done about it as teachers have no snitching rule. They dont seem to want to get involved and keep kids safe. The worst experience we have ever had in a school.

Overall as a student my experience has been a good one. I am a one week from graduating eighth grader whose been here since fifth grade and I can honestly say this school is a good one. If you want a school dedicated to your childs academics yet at the same time who cares about your child and wants to give them skills to take into life this is the school for you. Yes, as in any fairly new school there is much growth to be made but I can honestly say the school is headed for great places and I am proud to have been apart of paving the way for that.

I can honestly say I have never had better teachers! They care very much for each and every student. Many of my teachers have taken an entire class period every now and then to discuss with us what is going wrong and what they can do to try and fix it! I love them so much and they put up with way more than they are paid for.

There is definitely good and bad. As a student from observation on the inside I would say our principal focuses way to much on pep rallys and special lunch rewards that she does care about her teachers and students. She definitely did better as a dean. On the other hand the deans are overall helpful and easy to work with, sometimes correspondence can be difficult but they are busy people so I understand.

I would say teachers try very hard to keep a handle on bullying but there are of course cases that slip through the cracks. Personally the school has felt with bully pretty well. For instance I was cyber bullied via an Apple Watch during school hours and by the next year a ban on this type of technology was in the handbook because my friends and I brought it to admin.

They are pushing online only homework to prepare them for state testing. This is dumb. Not every thing in life is a test or on the computer. They need to use real books and write things down along with using technology for homework. Be more well rounded.

Since the new principle took over the school has been going downhill. You can feel the morale depleting amongst the staff and the kids are slowly learning to hate going to school. The atmosphere is just degrading and they're losing staff regularly and can't get substitutes anymore because they don't want to "deal" with the principle.

They talk a lot about moral focus but they expect the other students (kids) to deal with the bad behaviors of the few problem students instead of dealing with them effectively. The bullying is ramping up every year because the kids know there aren't any real consequences.

The middle school program at Wake Forest Charter Academy is a disaster. The school lacks proper resources to handle accelerated students. The administration is ineffective when it comes to dealing with disruptive and disrespectful students. The teachers and administration are disorganized, fail to respond to parent concerns, and are difficult when asked to complete high school recommendations. The school delayed sending information and nearly cost my child their future. The principal, dean, teachers, and board of directors ignore emails and refuse to communicate with parents except on a school-wide level. The administration regularly interrupts the academic day for announcements and "pep rally's." Bottom line, they might be a decent option school for elementary students, but as a middle school, my child says the middle school is a "joke" and a "waste of time."

My son is in 2nd grade and he absolutely loves it ! He has been going to this school from its first year. The teachers and staff are great and the principal is totally passionate and very involved with the administration and with the kids. They have well thought out events through out the year and have been getting better every year. They take safety and security of the kids very seriously and ensure only authorized people enter the school at all times. And their car pool process is a total breeze !

The school does an excellent job at communication and I love their moral focus curriculum
While I do love being at WFCA, I have completely mixed reviews between my two kids. My current 1st grader has had an exceptional experience for both Kindergarten and 1st grade. I could not have asked for better teachers either year. My other child, a current 3rd grader has had the opposite experience. We went thru 3 teachers in both 1st and 3rd grade before finding the right fit. I do feel that the school finally got the right teachers in place but it was a stressful experience

My favorite parts about our school are the sense of community among parents and faculty, communication from faculty and leadership, the happy learning environment and our teachers are the best!!! I feel blessed to have my kids at such an awesome school that places emphasis on their moral character too.

If being able to communicate with your child's teacher is important to you than you won't be disappointed. This is our third year at WFCA and reaching out to the teachers has always been encouraged and easy to manage.

Wake Forest Charter Academy has taught my daughter some invaluable life lessons on how to respect herself and the world she lives in. One of the main reasons we chose WFCA is because of the emphasis on moral focus. With the guidance of the school and following through at home she will be a positive asset to her community.

It is best school like private school, all the employee are very carrying, friendly. My child always wants to go to the school, teachers are great.

Just plain awesome!!! So glad our son got accepted into WFCA. We were skeptical at first since it was a brand new school with no history. We couldn't be more pleased with the superb staff and wonderful kids he goes to school with. He now LOVES going to school everyday!! Thank you WFCA for being awesome!!!

When I walk down the halls of this school, I'm grateful that we left our former school. Principal Perfitt is repeatedly on the forefront- working hard, smiling, talking with and giving us parents the information we require for our little ones. He sets a great example for his team and they follow his cues. The teachers approach you. They are friendly. They introduce themselves. They care about your child's safety and academic progress. They are proactive. They thank you for being involved and invite you to come back! These things may seem like minor or easy feats , but they're not things I personally observed with my child's other schools. This excellent administration has created a safe, happy and positive atmosphere for students and parents alike...and I am grateful my daughter is a student at Wake Forest Charter Academy!

Absolutely LOVE this school! My child has special needs and requires love and a strict curriculum. Teachers are very caring and on top of EVERYTHING! They go above and beyond! The Principal is very connected, caring and protective of the students. They also teach Moral Focus which I feel is a plus. The Principal holds a "meeting" with the children about once a week and you will also find him outside in the morning shaking hands with the students to teach them the importance of making a good first impression. I could go on, but not enough room to express how happy I have been here!
