The staff at metro school Very rude unprofessional also safety issues for students I was worried about my child all the time also pick up time at parking lot the stuff works they have zero respect no sympathy for the students and there parents they are yelling all the time no matter what the situation you dealing with your child’s they don't let you put your child properly in the set yelling screams on you to with in a second I didn't recommend this school for any one

My daughter is so lucky to have the best teachers and teachers assistance. The school has so many activities.

Teachers don't model it. The principal is a bully and so are many of the staff. The teachers are only modeling the behavior of their leadership.

Worst experience of my life! I had several IEP meetings to get them to raise my child's goals, since he accomplished everything they listed, years ago. They didn't care what I had to say about it. They flat out refused stating my child hasn't proven to them he can do it. You just met my child, what happened to asking the parent to familiarize yourself with their child? This staff spent every meeting taking turns explaining the same things over and over. Not one of them were open to hearing what I, as the mother had to offer. You are NOT part of the IEP team at this school. I have NEVER been so disrespected and disregarded when it came to my child's needs. They knew my child for a few weeks and spoke as experts and treated me like I was a liar.

My child can talk, eat, walk, socialize, etc, and was placed here due to his IEP stating separate school. Metro is not the same school he attended in Missouri. I wanted him placed into the neighborhood school ASAP. The bus picked him up at 5:15 AM, which I had to wake up at 4:30 to make sure he was ready. He didn't get home until 5:30PM. I begged them every meeting, even called every week, to please contact the neighborhood school, which they told me over and over the school was full and not accepting new students. Then they lied and said even if they wanted to I would have to wait until January for them to get to know him better and decide if an outside school is better. Long story short, I decided to homeschool, since they convinced me there was no other way in NC. When I showed them my homeschool license on and said I was pulling him out, suddenly they called me the next day stating they had great news, the neighborhood school now has an opening and he could start on Monday. Really??

These people are control freaks. They treat the parents like a nobody and basically act as if they own your child. They have absolutely zero compassion to your child's needs. My son started pooping on himself DAILY, which he hasn't done since he was 3!!!!!!!! He also started laying around on the floor in a fetal position at home - never did that before. My mother said get him out of there now because he's trying to tell me something. Since pulling him out all of those behavior were gone immediately.

Would I recommend???? Only if you don't care about your child and would rather trust strangers to make every decision concerning them.

The students are not the bullies, the principal is a bully who hires teachers to bully. They are still working there, so I would say they do NOT effectively deal with bullies.

Treats them all the same. No matter how high or low functioned, they will all get the same lesson. Which doesn't meet the students where they are academically.

They taught at the students rather than to them. Wasn't an effective approach to teach the same way ignoring the level of the students. They also don't separate the ones who have a higher chance to excel and work with them to improve. Basically just getting credit for teaching, but totally missing the goal, that the students learn.

Curriculum was always the same as children without special needs. Most of those kids paid no attention to the lesson. More time should be spent on them learning how to read, write, math, life skills. Not worried about American History or Science projects that they are only present in the room but not mentally "there".

If you are looking for a "family oriented" place...Metro isn't for your family. We have had run ins time and time again with the administration. The world isn't perfect, but it is round. In the administrators world it is flat. They are uncompromising. Our kids our special needs - this isn't a MILITARY SCHOOL. I agree with all the other comments below.

Lots of things wrong with my school. It is not the same as when I arrived. It is sad to see teachers leave by the dozens. Since the current principal arrived at Metro we have 9 teachers left since the switch. We have over 30 teachers. That was three years ago! Teachers are unhappy but afraid for their jobs. Students suffer the consequences. Administrators won't listen to the parents or even work with them. Its a sad state of affairs at Metro - people are vocalizing need for change but nothing done. A petition is floating around for change, the media came to do a story, Metro needs a change. I just saw the news story at WBTV or metrofixit.com.

I second the parents comments in September 2014. The principal and her staff are rude and will not answer direct questions. They refer you to the legal department. I have never seen this kind of rude behavior at a school in my life. It is sad that this principal casts a negative impact on our children. She bullies the parents...I can only imagine how the staff feel. It is sad because special needs students lives are impacted. Keep asking direct questions pertaining to your child to am administrator. They will refer you to Valerie Todd. Valerie will refer you to the legal department.

As a parent of a child enrolled at this school, it is very disturbing to me that we are never allowed inside the school during operating hours. I understand for security reasons that people should not be permitted in without reason, but as a parent, I feel I have a right to see how my child is being educated/cared for while she is there. This makes you feel like you are living under some ridiculous government regime where you have no rights. The whole situation makes me wonder what goes on that they don't want parents to see or know about. I have two other children who went all the way through NC public schools and never encountered this kind of treatment where the parents are totally disregarded and stopped at the door.

Great school - the special needs students need this school!!!! There are not many in the US like this and it should be celebrated as such!!! The students and staff are wonderful - it is great to see a place for our kids.
