The staff genuinely does not care about the students or families.
My kid was having bullying problems and we asked to switch classes and they said no. Assistant principal’s exact words “We can’t keep an eye on everyone that goes around your child” you’d think they’d have an alternative…nope.

I've had 5 kids go through this school and even though there have been issues, it is overall a very good middle school as middle schools go. I would recommend it. Pretty much the whole school feeds into Hoggard, which is one of the best High Schools in eastern NC. The kids have all been prepared for High School which is the main goal of the middle school. Considering the schools age, it supports a ton of quality extra curriculars, such as Orchestra, Lacrosse, and Drama. The auditorium is a very valuable asset that many middle schools don't have.

Had 5 kids go through this school. It has had its ebbs and flows, however overall every one of my children have come through prepared for High School, even through Covid. The renovations have helped and the set-up of the campus is good for an older school. Ms. Nalepa is returning as Principal in the fall and is well respected. There is a good future for R-G.

No wonder the public's been outraged, and the school's plunged even in spite of changing times and serious remodeling since I last saw it when I was there years ago. I was in the times seeing students study how germy the bathrooms were, how petty the kids were in picking shame fights with each other, how restless they were in school and how begrudged they were from things even out of school, and teachers shouting at and scolding and reprimanding kids and even each other out of their own exasperation, even over slights. We didn't get along, lessons weren't regarded as important except to get people out of the county with the company it keeps, or be more delighted going forward in the future while being oblivious to how and where that would work. I'm genuinely not surprised, Roland-Grise is just an example of the limbo New Hanover County's, from the ousted faculty during COVID to the shooting on another school campus I had to read in news reports! I mean, people, have a problem with it all, but response and resolve it all realistically and with considerate collaboration with everyone involved who direly needs support and assistance and cares to make the best out of the worst.

if ever there is a kid that they just don't like or flat out refuse to help, they just boot them to J.C. Roe. (and even that school is better than RGMS)

they just ignore bullying for most kids, but the kids that kiss up to the teachers bully everyone and then act like the victims when the kid being bullied retaliates.

this school deserves a flat out zero out of ten. the principals are power hungry and don't understand that every human being is unique and needs to be treated as such, the bullying goes under the radar, a lot of kids either smoke weed or nicotine, there are plenty of pedophiles in the staff, most of the teachers claim that every word that comes out of a students mouth that remotely disagrees with them as disrespect, and they never try to do any form of rehabilitation, rather just choosing to send kids straight to ISS without a fair shot at explaining themselves.

Teachers at this school are not encouraging to students. They do not provided a safe environment for child to Excel in.

some of the teachers are very good with the students are great teachers and really care for their students and others need to go ! Mydaughter has a teacher who breaks down in tears at least a couple times a month saying she just cant handle this anymore and some who jus dont care about anything.

their is NO compassion at all from students to other studentst ,NO Integrity being shown or being taught!Respect Ha even the counselourMr Francisco has no respect for his students or the parents so why wyould the kids have any!! Heck if a sudent comes to get help for himself about bulying...he asked me both times my Daughter came o him for help she as being severely bullied he :after not doing anything cuz the bully denied it, then proceeded to ask me why was she making it up!And knowing she has been in therof bullying at this school and nothing was done thn Therapy since last school year because of being bullied then too!!

NOT IN ANYWAY SHAPE OR FORM!!Mydaughter has awlays been a very happy and positive child in on year she is now in therapy severely depressed ,so much so she as cutting! She is currently in the hospital due to all this bullying and they do nothing!!!

If they would get it together and not blame the victim hen being bullied and do something about the HUGE BULLYING problem they have and get rid of a counselor who doesnt care it would be a great school!!
Also they knew ,the counselour and the school nurse that my daughter had began cutting due to all the stress and did NOT tell us for @ MONTHS!! Their are A LOT of kids cutting right now at this school due to bullying and other issues and they have not done a damn thing about it!!

I am a parent and I serve on the PTSO Board. The previous reviews complaining about our new principal, Dr. Pinto, are ridiculous. When reading them, please observe that they were written mere days after the start of this school year, before the effectiveness of any changes could be measured. Dr. Pinto has done a remarkable job thus far, particularly in her efforts to increase communication with parents and students, to improve the safety and effectiveness of drop-off/pick-up and to enhance the quality of curriculum and programs available to our students. She absolutely values the feedback of parents and students. Roland Grise is a wonderful school. The teachers and staff are phenomenal. We are quite pleased with the experience that our student is having. Go Knights!

Things have definitely changed with the new principal. We were looking forward to a great experience, esp when it came to the AIG program, but it's gone. Replaced by what they call "clustering", meaning they try to attend to students with different needs in one classroom, rather than grouping them separately in any way. Extremely demanding of the teachers, yet way less effective than what they had before. At the same time, the foul language, bullying and negative attitudes of some students on the buses, during recess, and also in the classrooms are alive and well.

Dr Pinto walks in and changes the curriculum without giving parents the opportunity to pursue open enrollment at another public middle school or move our children to a private school. By combining children in 1 classroom with different abilities and different behavioral issues, we are certain to fail the educational goals of most if not all of the children, as the future test scores will likely reflect this misguided attempt. Great job taking a very successful school and turning it into a disaster. This experiment was tried before at RG and FAILED. Using this model, all students who try out for a sports team at RG should be allowed to play - no sense awarding positions to players who are the most talented. We all miss Mr. Hatch. This could possibly be another self-serving deal orchestrated by Dr. Markley at the expense of our children.

I have two children at Roland Grise. My oldest is an "A" student .My Youngest started the year A,B,C, D, student.He is currently holding A and B average.It is my job to make sure my children get there work done and study.I find that it is very convenient to blame the school for our children bad habits and grades.How we could possible blame the school for our children's social habits is beyond me.I have noticed most of the complaints have come from families new to our community.Get back in your car and point the front bumper north.We have a great thing going on in New Hanover county.

Great teachers and staff, old building, don't like office staff. This school is great, except it was built in 1966, so it is a bit old. Also, the office people are grumpy whenever I go in. Amazing, AIG and gifted services.

I love Roland-Grise. MY daughter was slightly behind when we moved here at the beginning of the school year, and the teachers went above and beyond to help here get caught. They really encourage parents to get involved and help out.

RG is a great middle school! We have been very pleased with all aspects of her education. All middle schools can be challenging but I think the administration does a great job keeping each grade level apart from others. Things seem to be just getting better as the years go by. We currently have 2 children attending.
