Sadly, many of the excellent teachers who worked at Speight have begun to find jobs elsewhere and are being replaced by inexperienced beginning teachers due to the failure of the current principal to retain quality educators. On paper, Valerie Budd looks like she truly deserves her new title as Principal of the Year mainly due to low discipline and zero retention rates, but this isn't because there aren't problems like any other school. It's because there's no record. Students fail and get passed along. There are discipline issues that aren't recorded. One data record that can't be manipulated this year is the current test scores, which plummeted after the exodus of almost every department chair. While Valerie Budd will blame the current staff for this significant drop, she created the negative work environment that caused so many great educators to leave after dedicating majority of their careers to establishing relationships with the awesome parents and students of Speight Middle School.

The teachers here love their students and truly want their students to grow and learn but since the schools administratives have started to pass kids that don't try and continue to make failing grades their have been more and more kids getting the "I don't care" attitude making it that much harder on the teachers to get through to their students!

The teachers are awesome! They give just enough to keep the brain running without being over loaded, and have time to have it done without much stress!

It's is unfair to not only the students that work hard, study and turns in all their school/home work but teachers as well to share a class with students that continually interrupt class fail to turn in their school/home work, fail their EOG's yet get promoted to the next grade with all F's making it that much harder on the students and teachers!

My child along with several other students are being taught that you don't have to do your work make F's throughout the year And be administratively pass to the next grade causing students to remain in 9th-10th grades for 2-3 years due to not knowing the work! I personally tried to talk to the principal and she in so many words said she could do whatever she wants! I've talked to a teacher and I was informed the teachers are too the point of not caring because they aren't being supported in the class rooms!! I 100% agree are being slapped in the face and the administration's that pass these failing students are failing the student body as a whole!
