I have been sitting on this review for over a year now. I didnt want to write a review in anger, so I waited. Even after all this time, I feel it is important to share how mgcs administration treated my family, if only to spare somebody else from sharing the same experience in the future. My child attended pre k 3s and had a wonderful year. His teacher was truly magical and to this day I think she is wonderful. He was the youngest in his class, so I decided to have him repeat 3s again the next year when we were invited to re-enroll. During the year he attended I received no noteworthy feedback about his behavior, I was not called to any parent/teacher conferences, and he never bit anyone (I mention this because its their only 3 strikes and youre out rule). The only feedback I ever received was that they recommend him be evaluated for speech therapy, which he was already doing and I told them so. Over the next summer I had my son evaluated for autism due to things that didnt seem to be affecting school. Out of respect and keeping everyone on the same page I shared the diagnosis with the school. They asked me to come in for a meeting to put supports in place for him to have a great year. I went to this meeting without my husband thinking it was just a supports meeting, and was blindsided by them kicking him out with less than a month before school was supposed to start due to concerns from last year. When pressed by me, and later my husband, about what concerns they spoke of, they could not or would not tell us. This very much leads us to believe that they massively overreacted and removed him from a place of ableism and discrimination. If there were truly concerns we would have been hearing about this during the year or they could have at least told us what they were when they kicked him out. As a multi generation Mgcs family we are hurt and disgusted. The way they handled this situation was slimy and not at all Christian. I would never ever recommend Mgcs to anyone again, but I still am trying my best to forgive them. I pray that in the future no family will feel the hurt and rejection they inflicted upon me so needlessly at the beginning of my motherhood journey. Do better Mgcs.

My child just finished his first year at Myrtle Grove Christian School, and he had a wonderful year. The teachers and staff are incredibly caring and genuinely supportive of each student's individual needs. One thing I especially love about the school is that everyone knows my child by name and truly cares for him. I've also noticed positive changes in him since attending. Most importantly, I feel confident knowing he is in a very safe and nurturing environment every day.

The overall experience Ive had at this school has been negative. Students are rude, disrespectful, and even cruel to those with differing interests, looks, personalities, beliefs, political views, etc. They will be more than likely outcasted and made fun of. They (students) are openly racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, etc. and it is never addressed. Offensive and degrading slurs are openly used by the student body, with little to no action taken. It isnt even reported, but even then, I have little belief that anything would be handled.

Teachers will not hesitate to bring their political beliefs and opinions into the classroom, which will then blow up into an entire debate where kids will gang up on another student just because they have a different political view. Once again, very little is done about these issues. Teachers will over-assign homework and overwork their students, then wonder why grades are dropping.

Bullying is such a major issue throughout the school, especially in 6th-8th grade. Rumors spread unbelievably quick and they do not die down. Once more, the staff do not do anything about bullying. You get prayed over and thats it. Maybe an after school. It got so bad that I know students who had their parents pull them out, due to how serious the bullying got.

Punishments are handed out unfairly, you could get an afterschool for asking someone a question. When you try to explain that, youre told off for back talking. Teachers are stubborn and do not listen to their students when they try to present a genuine concern and / or issue. Instead of punishing those breaking genuine issues within the dress code, they go after those wearing patterned jackets (stripes, dots, etc. No logos.)

Field trips are wildly unorganized and somewhat miserable, rather than being fun and a chance to learn outside of the usual environment of a classroom. Transportation is not organized and often rely on parent volunteers. Its more of a minor thing, but still an issue.

Overall, this is a school that has destroyed me and ruined any faith I once held. If you dont fit in with the students at the school, then it will be a very tough time for you. I would not recommend this school.

This school has disappointed me greatly. The teachers at this school do not motivate students to have a joy for learning, but instead rush through lessons in order to "get them over with." Very little is taught, so very little is learned. Excessive amounts of bullying, hate, and harassment occur, especially in the middle school, and hardly anything is ever done. Teachers put in extremely minimal effort when it comes making sure all students are included and that bullying/hate is stopped. The bullying prevention is so bad that fights will happen and kids will get injured and there are zero consequences because administration refuses to deal with the school's biggest issue. The school is very hateful when it comes to being of different ethnicities and political beliefs, and teachers do not hesitate to bring up their political beliefs in the classroom when they should be teaching. Students at this school are also very hateful towards anyone who is slightly different, and they are never reprimanded. Despite bragging about wonderful electives and fieldtrips, those amenities barley exist. Majority of middle school electives are students sitting in a classroom either working on homework or gossiping with their teachers. Teachers often cancel their electives or simply don't teach it because "they don't have enough time" or "their day was extremely stressful." This would be excusable if it happened quite rarely, but this is a common situation which happens in nearly every elective class. Field trips are poorly organized, to the point where this is no transportation for students and parents are needed to take days off from work to drive their children 4-5 hours away. Overall, this school is extremely disorganized, riddled with hate and bullying that is not dealt with, minimal education, and zero benefits that the website and staff boasts about. If you are looking for a school for your child to thrive in a Christ-like manner, and to be surrounded by love and positivity, this is certainly not the place.

If your child does not fit into their box, do not send them to this school. This school professes that they are a Christian school yet, they dont offer grace or compassion.

I am a former educator and have always been anti-homework (with the exception of studying for tests). They say homework should take a fixed amount of time to complete, but that has never been the case for either of my children. I dont bring my work home, why should they?

My children have done well at MGCS, and I think they received a lot of love from the staff. They were well-behaved and had no areas of struggle, so I can only speak from that perspective. Their goal is to be an environment of love and grace. With that comes challenges, both from the perspective of helicopter parents, who are never satisfied, and the rest of us who just want our kids to be well-educated, taught to love others as Christ loved, and expect that the same standards be applied to students of all grade levels.

The price of the preschool is significantly more than most preschools in the area. So that being said, I do not feel the love I was hoping to feel there. A lot of the teachers do not look happy to be there. The academics are average.
* My child brought home a lot of coloring sheets.
*I was hoping the PreK class would have a little graduation ceremony at the end of the year, which most preschools have.
*The music program at the end of the year was sweet, however, you can't hear the childrens' sweet voices over the music vocals.

Beware of applying to this school if your child is ADHD or on a 504 plan. I was assured that it would not be a problem getting my son in. I was completely honest and upfront about his 504 plan, ADHD, and depression issues (which were resolved)

We were supposedly declined because of "serious behavior issues" and bad grades. The only bad grade he had was a 72 in an advanced placement class. His behavior issues were extremely minor. Tardys, late work, a small confrontation with a student that had been bullying him since the previous year. He was with some friends and said the f word which a teacher overheard. All these were served with no more than a lunch detention.

I never could get the principal to talk to me which really screams discrimination! He couldn't confront me and this is supposed to be a Christian school. My son's assistant principal got back to me and wanted to call them and let them know my son has had hiccups,but nothing major and he was a good kid. Which he is and we are happy to not be attending Myrtle Grove. Just beware of staff and admissions "committee".

I want to start by saying my goal in writing this review is just to inform others when they are making a decision of where to send their children to school. I will make this review as unbiased as possible.

This was my experience at MGCS:
My child attended Myrtle Grove Christian School as a new 3rd grader. The class sizes are small. There were two 3rd grade classrooms with approx. 17 kids per class. My child had a hard time making friends because it seemed everyone was already in established groups/cliques. Everyone had been going to the school since Kindergarten. The girls in 3rd grade were not welcoming or friendly aside for just a handful. Later, I came to realize that the parents of the unfriendly girls were the same as their kids.

For us, the disadvantage of small class sizes is that if your childs friend is absent from school or they happen to be on the outs your child has no one else to play with because of the cliques and simply because of the small class size.

MGCS does not accommodate for AIG children or children with learning barriers. I was told that my child would be given accommodations for AIG but at the 6-month teacher conference the teacher told me that she just couldnt give one child special accommodations.

I was naïve to think that kids would be nice, friendly and welcoming at a religious school. I have come to the conclusion that no matter what type of school you send your kids to, there will always be: mean kids, jealous kids, teachers who pick favorites, stuck up parents, and unwelcoming cliques. I experienced this at MGCS and public schools. Nowhere is perfect, you just have to choose what works best for your child.

One positive thing I will say is that academically my daughter learned a lot (she is a self-starter), but socially, she suffered at this school.

We have sacrificed greatly to send our grandchildren to this school for years and without question it's the best investment we've ever made. This is a highly credited Christian school which provides exactly the environment and quality of teaching we desired for our grandkids. Their knowledge of the Bible astounds me and challenges me at the same time. If need be, we would mortgage our home, do anything at all possible, to keep them in this wonderful school. It's the best foundation we could possible give them to prepare them for the uncertain future we all face.

I feel it is excessive. As a former teacher, I always felt if I did my best teaching in the classroom, there was no need for two or three hours of homework every night. Only those who are behind or not grasping the work should be given regular homework, assisted by their parents. Those who do well need time to play after school, time to relax in the evening, and time for Boy or Girl Scouts, church activities, or many other extra curricular activities offered by the community. The amount of homework required by Myrtle Grove seems like an effort to impress parents that gargantuan amounts of homework indicates the school is providing a far better education, when the reverse is actually true. Most homework is busy work, like crossword puzzles, word games, etc. which is a worthless wastes of time and makes our kids go to be exhausted.

We have 3 children and planned on making them a mainstay at MGCS through Middle School. Our 11 year old went to MGCS pre-k and kindergarten then on to Coddington. We tried to return him to MGCS and was turned down because our child who scored 5's on his EOGs and was selected for the Duke TIP program (95 percentile) was not smart enough to attend. Needless to say to have a child come to your school at 11 years old and spend a 3 day evaluation, get his hopes up, and then just drop him, shows this school cares nothing about children. They care only about themselves. Highly respected local educators warned me that this school was not all that, and I wished I listened.

We love this school! Our daughters have attended since they were in preschool; it is an environment marked by kindness and encouragement. It has an excellent and rigorous curriculum taught within the framework of a biblical world view.

Be prepared to sign an agreement that would exclude your student from attending the school if your family is deemed to have a "non-bibical" homelife. There have been public protests against this policy at the school.

This school is extended family, not too big, but plenty of activities to get involved in. The administration and staff are incredibly genuine, love their students, and want them to succeed. I am now friends with many of the teachers and parents. I cannot imagine sending my kids anywhere else.

I am a former student, now in college, and I loved attending MGCS. I can not thank my parents enough for enrolling me in this school at the age of 2. This school gave me a wonderful moral base and taught me about God and has kept me strong in my faith. I strongly recommend this school because it was so enriching and i miss it truly.
