My son (elementary school - 2nd grade) was diagnosed with ADD and as being on the autism scale by a licensed psychologist and then by a psychiatrist. We went to the Queens Grant to have a meeting to get him accommodations. There were four Queens Grant personnel there and the panel denied him accommodations because his teacher said he was doing well academically and didn't have any behavior issues. Within a week, and for the next six weeks we received notices from his teacher about his behavior about every other day. No movement was made towards giving him accommodations or working with him even though that is exactly what we met with the school about. Because of his behaviors, he began to be called names at school, and no allowance was given by the teacher for his misunderstanding instructions and behaviors associated with his disability. He would come home in tears. His teacher was oblivious. After six weeks, we decided he, and my wife and I, couldn't take it anymore. We pulled him out and put him in a school that does what any school does - recognize professional medical diagnosis and give accommodations.

I have two kids who have attended QGHS and I have nothing but great things to say about this school. All schools have their issues but QGHS has been amazing for my children. The support from the teachers and staff has been exceptional. We feel so lucky to be part of this school and the experiences and opportunities it has given our children. If your child is willing to put in the effort they are willing to help. There are so many opportunities available to your children dual enrollment, online classes, being a TA. My children are not just learning the subjects but how to advocate for themselves , ask for help and so much more. We are so grateful for all that QGHS has done for our children.

The school is absolutely awful as Someone who went to the school for nine years just like my older siblings instead while my little sister is still attending the school its absolutely awful. The way they treat the Children with disabilities is absolutely awful and literal abuse. They dont do anything about bullying, The teachers even do it to the students, The entire staff Has a Overbearing control obsession, The only punishment they use instead of actually teaching the children is to use humiliation and bullying. Its disgustingly unsanitary and a horrible place for your children. I would like to say that its a little bit better if you just wanna put your kids in for like k-3 grade But even the teachers in that are absolutely awful to the poor kids, especially when it starts nearing middle school. If you genuinely loved your child, you wouldnt send them here

After attending this school for 13 years and starting college, I found I was very far behind and unprepared even thought the school advertises a Preparatory School/Education. After Covid hit and our school got turned into Remote learning the majority of core class teachers gave up. When we came back to in person learning it was the same case. Only packets, emails, and links to Khan Academy or other online schools were given to us and there was no in person classroom teaching/learning and we were penalized for class scores and averages. The teachers alone do such a poor job to get kids to understand material and handle classrooms awfully and unprofessionally, most of the time teachers arent even in the classrooms during learning time. The students that choose to cause trouble are not taken care of appropriately, students who were very unlikely to cause trouble were punished very harshly for first/minor offenses. Most teachers act more like students than teachers how they talk, act, handle situations and gossip with students. You receive no proper or appropriate education at this Facility and when any concerns or issues are brought up to the Principal, Dr.Swartzlander, he chooses to turn away or ignore it rather than reach back out to you or find a actual solution.

This has been a horrible experience! The teachers have one year of teaching and lack classroom management. A class of 28 poorly behaved students is too much for an inexperienced teacher to handle and control. Currently, based on 2nd grade state beginning of the year testing, 46% of the grade is below state benchmark levels. THE STUDENTS ARENT LEARNING. And the dean is a joke, doesn't take concerns seriously. My students are above benchmark levels, but are falling behind in the atrocious environment.

Leadership is very cliquish and are more concerned with appeasing the in parents than the students. Administration allows a set group of parents to dominate and run the school. A dean has brought a support staff member to tears over the way that she was addressed. Leadership does not consider individualism of students rather how they are grouped. This is apparent when a member of leadership a Dean stated that he has thought hundreds of a students name, not realizing that even though he has taught and dealt with hundreds of middle girls in that instance he had only dealt with that individual student.

In the beginning we loved the school, but unfortunately we have experience a sharp decline in our experience with the school over the years. We started in Kindergarten through middle school and unfortunately this will be our last year. Overall we are unhappy, with how the school is being ran. Certain parents have too big of an influence. The principal needs to be replaced. The only decent admin in the school is Mrs. Schie. The ladies in the front office are rude in the manner that they address visitors. It is no surprise that there is a mass exit from the school after the 18-19 school year. 6th grade has been without a math teacher this year, and had a horrible math teacher in 5th grade who has since been replaced, and 4th grade this school year has had a turn over of 2 teachers in the same classroom.

I tried to push for an IEP for one of my children but I was shut down. My child had a major medial need, so I knew it was important. I do not think they are equipped to deal with special needs. I would choose a public school before a charter because now knowing this. They just don't have the resources or staff necessary.

Teachers do deal with it if you make them aware, but it seems like they are so overwhelmed with classroom size that they don't see issues. My child would tell me things that were very concerning, and I'd have to approach the teacher a lot. When I sat in at lunch, I saw it first hand.

Kindergarten was great- they taught my child to read! But it was high stress and testing started happening more, along with homework. By first grade, the testing was so intense my child was getting physically ill. Elementary schools today have lost their way in helping to nurture and develop children.

A lot of busy work is assigned as homework for younger students, and my six year old child was told they would only be able to do well if they spent time studying when they got home from school. It was disturbing they did not encourage family time or play after a long school day.

Teachers seem overwhelmed with classroom sizes. We had an amazing kindergarten experience but we could tell too much was expected of the teacher with the student/teacher ratio. I sat in a lunch for 1st grade and the students were extremely out of control. I was surprised and wondered if she had to deal with disruptive behavior daily. I'm not sure if it was teaching skill deficit or student dynamic.

Few teachers here care about their students. Having gone here from Kindergarten all the way through eighth grade, I learned that if you are labelled as a temperamental or misbehaving child early on, teachers will be prejudiced against you for the rest of your span there. My Kindergarten teacher was clearly showing sexist behavior towards the boys, yet it took many years for the faculty to act on it. The discipline was very biased towards girls. If a group of girls was caught talking they got four warnings before being put on yellow. Meanwhile, many times, the boys would immediately get put on red after so little as one warning. There are a few good teachers here, Daniel Myers is the best teacher at this school, not succumbing to prejudice and not listening to teacher gossip. He is very friendly towards the students, and cares about them and their goals.

The schools prejudice towards certain kids and influence from Momocrats makes their monthly moral focus tree nothing more than a sham for involved moms to make their kid feel good about themselves. The kids not given mother input get given compassion awards during April. Sensitive kids are treated the same as trouble kids, and kids often dont understand why theyre in trouble. Sometimes, entire classes would have their cards turned from the bad behavior of a few, this made children cry, as their perfect behavioral records are now tarnished by the actions of others, disguisting. Teachers, at times, segregated the good and bad kids in a classroom, and wrote, on the white board, the names of the good kids and bad kids, based on their GRADES, no less! Of course, all the children of the Momocrats were places on the good side, what a coincidence~!

The involved parents at this school essentially run it. If your last name isnt Joyce, Ubriaco, Sprague, or Lawson, you might as well not even bother. Involved parents have way too much say and spread gossip about the children, influencing kids to be put in certain classes with teachers they like more, or ones that will treat their kids like royalty. School giveaways are clearly rigged towards children of involved parents, having these children always win the schools giveaways. Its a Soccer Momocracy, through and through. In 2010, the teachers sent out an email telling parents to give positive reviews on greatschools. Causing a flood of positive reviews from involved parents on July 8th and 9th, 2010.

I am happy with Queens Grant. I think that the teachers are outstanding. I love the class size and the way they pay special attention to the students progress. I am very happy with the way that they have personalized tutors for students that need a little more help in certain subjects. I would recommend QG to everyone and plan on my child attending at least until high school.

My daughter has been at Queens Grant since kindergarten. We absolutely love it! It's small, everybody knows the kids by name and family oriented. The fact that they instill the different moral focus virtues in the students sets them apart from the normal traditional schools. The only reason I didn't give QG a 5 is bc there's no cafeteria. Other than that, it's an excellent school.

Queen's Grant (K-8) has been a great school for our family. My children have thrived academically, socially, and morally under their guidance. The staff and leadership are caring and compassionate. The school partners with parents and hold students accountable as well. I love this school and will continue to support them in my children's education.

My family's experience at QG community school (K-8) has been amazing. Our kids have grown to love learning beyond their natural childhood curiosities, matured in their confidence and developed a deep sense of citizenship and responsibility. As parents, we are thankful for the school-wide focus on moral virtues. The teachers, leadership and staff are incredibly dedicated to student academic and emotional growth. Even as 2 working parents who wish we could volunteer more, we have personally witnessed countless staff going "above and beyond" in our 5 years at QG. We can't offer any comparisons to CMS or private schools because we have only known QG. But we can attest that we have chosen to stay at QG (depsite being closer to a CMS 10 elem school and being accepted into private schools) because our kids LOVE going to school every day and they continue to achieve significant quarter over quarter individual growth. The latter is especially important to us because they are in the top 5% of their classes. The teachers are loving, fair and fun. The deans and principal have always been friendly, responsive and professional. We are proud to be a QG family.

Queens Grant is a good fit for anyone who is in the market for a military school. The class sizes are huge and NHA, (a for profit company,) has decided to boost profits by cutting the art, music and physical education staff by half. The principal and board are closed door and parents have zero input. My child's teacher should have retired 10 years ago when she discovered she hates teaching and children.

I am unsure of what some of these parents are talking about, is it the same school I sent my son too!! Queens Grant has been nothing but nice to my son and I when I have gave them multiple reasons not to be. Like feeding my kid for weeks when I was unaware there was no money in his account and me pulling my kid out of school 2 hours early 5 days in a row, or how about when I was short with Mrs Lisa at the front but she took the time to realize I was probably going through something. My Child's behavior has improved since attending this school because of Ms. Adams. I drive 35 40 minutes everyday twice a day just to bring my child to school here and I will keep doing it till I have the means to move. This is An Awesome School that is doing an awesome job. And they invite the Parents to join in and volunteer ALL the TIME!! I am always getting emails from the school and his teacher on how I can get involved.
I mean I guess everyone can have their own opinion but lying about about what the school does and doesn't do is wrong. Like today when I dropped my son off I asked a staff member to walk him in, to make sure the front desk got his lunch money and they did just that. When she could have said alright and then walk away from him. But she didn't. I love this school l, the only thing I can say about the school is that I wish they had busses but at the same time it makes for more parent and child reaction to know what's going on day to day instead of just put your kid on a bus everyday. So I really have no complaints. Queens Grant is the best place you could ever send your Child without spending a fortune somewhere else. I knew before sending my son there that he was very smart and they are just helping him fly and aim higher and higher, but what I really am looking forward to see is my daughter coming there next year who is not as advance and watching her gain some of the skills that chase has. Manners, respect, determination, willing and wanting to her homework. To end this note. I am so glad my children have this opportunity at Queens Grant and I wouldn't change it for the public school (2 minutes from my house) anyday.. It's a long drive and it takes a lot of gas to get him back and forth to school so we had to let a few things go like our Direct TV in order to afford the gas but like I said it is very very very much worth it.

I have had two children in QG, one I withdrew today. One is still there. The ONLY reason why one is still there is because he was FINALLY put in a IEP program (no easy task, the school failed him for a disability, but going through my Dr. Finally helped and they do give him the help he needs..... Now )
I can count maybe 2 staff members who made me feel welcome the 8 years we have been there. The principal has never smiled, not once even. The school is dark inside,the classrooms are small. The student never leaves the room hardly. They have to eat at their desk.
If you are like most normal families who have to work and can't be at the school every waking minute, they aren't nice to you. Don't involve you at all. Your children are also treated based on how involved in the school the parents are. The children there aren't normal, they don't know how to act when brought around kids in public school. If your child doesn't fit in the "in" crowd then they are shunned. I've been disgusted by the treatment of myself and my children. Their test scores suck if you do your research.
If you have the opportunity to but your child in a good union county school, do it.
Don't waste your time here unless you stay at home and can revolve your whole being around a school.who thinks its elite when its really not

The school has become nothing more than a public school with no buses and no cafeteria. All they look at is the passing percentage of the students and not how well the actual students are doing. When I addressed the issue of advanced students being ignored to the cooperate office also I was told that I need to tell my child to just deal with it and give him extra work at home. I can't rate the school yet because my child won't start attending until this coming fall. However, I've been reading these reviews and I just had to chime in. My goodness - some of you parents are worse than the children! I mean, we're probably all in our 30s or so. Are we really complaining about other parents (especially those who volunteer) behind an anonymous post on a website?? Maybe some of the parents need to grow up.

Fortunately, I don't pay much attention to the majority of reviews, except for the honest, well written ones. To those parents who are complaining that their "above average kid" is getting the "encouragement or push" they deserve, or those parents who feel they aren't part of "the click" that runs QG --- maybe the best solution is to look at your child and/or yourself. That's most likely the real cause for your concern.

Below average test scores. Teachers NOT held accountable. Administrative disconnect with parents. Weak middle school. Once a child is labeled it stays with them throughout their time there.Deans were outright rude to parents. Teachers showed favoritism. The principal takes lock away in her office and let's Deans run the school. It's past time for a change.They put too much pressure on kids for State & EOC. Kids are passed out packets of work to keep them busy. Some of the teachers speak harshly to kids in front of the entire class. Classes have 28 students -no teacher assistants. The special need students are being babysitter and not taught. No be mislead that a smaller school is better. Biggest pet peeve is that each year a class list of each student and their parents, yes parents are rated as helpful, high maintenance or not involved is circulated to the next grade level teachers. This causes an impression of the student before they even know them. What if your child had a year where you asked for a meeting about a teacher and from then on you were rated as high maintenance or your child. You never get off the list for simply being an advocate for your child.

my son is in the first grade at queens grant and ever since kindergarten, he has thrived and grown not only academically but socially as well. he has a few medical issues and i can't say enough about how the staff and administration has made us feel safe and welcome. they have always treated us as if they care about us as people and have offered us whatever help they could above and beyond what goes on in the classroom. i admire the discipline,rules and structure that is in place i was told from day 1 that the goal of the school is to get kids ready for college from from kindergarten......the work is challenging but done in a fun learning environment.....parent feedback and participation is encouraged and my son loves it there.....my plan is to keep him enrolled at queens grant through high school and highly endorse the school wholeheartedly

This is the second year that my child has attended Queens Grant. I am totally satisfied with this school, which I believe was a much better option than the CMS public school in my area. Both teachers, have been great!! Both parents work full time in our home, and I feel good knowing she's at Queens Grant (her second home) while we are at work. They are very transparent as to what is expected from the students academically, and give ample opportunity (parent/teacher Conferences) for parents to evaluate their child's progress. My child has excelled academically, and socially and she loves going to school each day. We Love Queens Grant!!!

We were in CMS through 9th grade. It was a constant struggle with bullying and discipline in our "prestigious" HS. All the attention was given to the children who excelled. It was all about the image of the school, not the individual child. QGHS has been a Godsend for us. The staff is caring and works with the child to help them do their best. Disrespect and bullying is not tolerated. Dr Smith is a hands-on principal and very personable. My only regret is that we didn't find this school sooner.

There is a very fine line between having involved parents and having another parent knowing my kids test scores and discussing it with other parents!! No privacy, too many kids to a class, no encouragement or push for above average kids, teachers work load is overwhelming for them and they get no help. This school is not what it says it is. Valuable teaching time is wasted on long assembly each morning. Some assemblies are very long and boring for the kids.

I concur....while not blinded totally by this school, my daughter spent her first 6 years in the local public school system and graduated 5th grade with a 3rd grade reading level. We were accepting into 6th grade at QGCS and she thrived and has excelled way beyond our dreams. Now a high school senior at QGHS! Parents that complain about discipline not being followed up or teachers that do not care, need to go to the expense and go to private school....my son started in 1st grade and now in 7th and we have always found the staff to be caring and quick to react to any concerns or problems with students or teachers. There is ALWAYS bad apples anywhere and those are weeded out on a case-by-case basis. My son personally had bullying problems with an older child and I feel that it was handled immediately and properly to full resolution. My son love his school and cannot imagine going anywhere else. I hear the horror stories coming out of CMS schools and can't imagine either of my kids still attending pulic school. Agree that other parents can become too involved, but again, that is everywhere and if you don't like it, become involved yourself. LOVE THIS SCHOOL!!!!!!!

I was just reading thru some of the other reviews and they made me so sad! Overall, Queens Grant is a great school. Yes, they have problems like public schools and like $25,000 per year private schools as well. NO school is perfect. We have been so very happy at this school. My daughters are thriving. I am a working parent, and I feel like I am treated just like the stay at home moms. We have had a teacher or two that haven't been wonderful--and they are no longer there--so yes, teachers are held accountable. I recommend this school to others often. I am a CMS employee, I could send my kids to ANY CMS school--I CHOOSE to send them to Queens Grant instead. My daughters have been taught great moral values at this school, and I know they are keeping up academically as well.

Regan Adam is the only individual at this school worthy of five stars! She is worthy of ten! Unfortunately, the rest leaves a lot to be desired. There is little disciplinary action for both students AND teachers who act out. The teachers are overwhelmed and do not seem to be supported by their administration unless they are part of the in group. Communication is lacking. My child was challenged and thrived in Mrs. Adam's class... after that, I may as well have put him in CMS. We had high hopes, but, in the end, Queen's Grant failed to impress as a whole.

Queens Grant purports itself to be head and shoulders above the CMS public school system. It is not. There is a lot of complacent behavior among the staff. Parental help in the classroom is begged for; if both parents work, then those parents are not on the same level as the parents who think QG is their home away from home. Busybody moms have waaaaay too much input and involvement at this school. Most staff members act professional, but those that do not overshadow the others. Don't get it wrong: a few run this school, their way. The academics are just average. Because it is a "charter school", and has a lottery for openings, it creates a false sense of prestige. This does not compare to a private school, in any way. One unruly student with behavior/cognitive issues can ruin the day for other students. Imagine that EVERY DAY for your child. Discipline is not followed per the handbook. We bought the fluff initially, but time and experience has removed the blinders.

This school is run like a junior high clique. Why do parents receive emails about the class from another parent who volunteers at the school? Surely the teachers should be in charge of the class. Too many power tripping parents!!! Professionalism in the staff could greatly be improved.

My child has been at Queens Grant for two years, and I've been extremely pleased with his teachers and academic experience. I'm looking forward to my other children going here in the future.

I'm glad that someone noticed that the PE teacher is a Bully. She would have been fired if she was at a CMS school. I have seen her bully and threaten kids. When you try to tell administration they will just tell you that she can seem abrasive, BUT she loves the kids. Anyone who loves kids would see that it is just WRONG to pull a child and push them or point out that they need to lose weight, or ask why are you mean to the PE teachers child. She is always bullying kids and the PE teacher went into her childs classroom and threatened the other kids that they should leave her child alone. Please be aware that she walked into another teachers class and because there was a sub in there, this PE teachers thought she could say whatever she wanted to the class. The Sub had a responsibility to report this and never did. The administration only again talked to the PE teacher or wrote her up.The teacher should not be there. Is the administration afraid to take action?One day a parent is going to report it to someone outside of the school who can truly investigate and not be afraid to hold this teacher accountable for her actions.The students are held accountable, but not all of the teachers
