While the education itself is actually good and students can succeed academically, the environment completely ruins the experience. From my experience, there is a serious attitude problem among both staff and students. The vice principal and a 7th-grade English teacher consistently come across as dismissive and unprofessional, which makes students feel unheard and uncomfortable speaking up. On top of that, the student culture is extremely negative—racism and bullying are common, and kids are often openly mean to one another without consequences. What makes this worse is that the administration is aware of these issues and still chooses not to take meaningful action. Instead of addressing the racism and bullying, it feels like they would rather ignore it, which only enables the behavior to continue. A school should be a safe place for students, but this environment feels hostile and unsupportive, especially for those who are targeted. Even though the academics are strong, the level of disrespect, lack of accountability, and failure to protect students make the overall experience disappointing and honestly disgusting.

Im a current student at MRMS as a 7th grader, Marvin has good achievements and good education, but what happens in the school is the complete opposite of what they label themselves as the best school in the county. BUT So much racism, bullying and homophobia happens, i'm a personal witness i happen to overhear a lot of kids saying the N word HARD R on the buses, in the cafeteria and in class like its nothing and the assistant bus manager kept looking over but yet he did nothing about it. and their whole “Anti bullying program” is complete nonsense because they do nothing about bullying at this school. When you have unique interests people consider it as “weird” things and kids constantly pick on you. And i personally seen people bully kids with disabilities YET the administrators still do nothing about it. And overall my experience at this school has been terrible. I don't feel safe at this school and if you have a teen of diversity ETC dont send them to this school i want to transfer so bad

Two of my kids have been to this school and it has been a great experience for them overall. The school have lot of good programs to allow student to grow at right pace. While there are few exceptions like most schools, most of the teachers are great.

Awful. I pulled my 6th grader out before he even started there just based on the conference held with administrators. I then transferred my rising 8th grader out due to lack of unresponsiveness of administrators and very rude teachers and staff. The pandemic has given them even more reason to shut the doors on parents and to use the kids as their political shields. My children are happier in the private school they now attend in Charlotte. AND they are actually learning because the teachers, not the parents who work, are actually doing their jobs. And they care about the students, not the scores on the the standardized tests.

Our experience at MRMS has been great so far. We have boys that just finished 6th and 7th grade. The teachers have been wonderful with our kids and you can tell that they really love their students and their teaching jobs.

Unfortunately I would rate this school a 0 out of 5. My daughter has been going to counseling weekly for the past 8 months because of sexual harassment and bullying. I’ve made several complaints to the staff but only til I pressed criminal charges they did something about it. The bullying continues to this day.

We've been very pleased with MRMS (current 8th grader; average student). It's middle school; it's a terrible time for most kids AND parents. Are you going to get tons of kids who LOVE MR? No. But, if you look at most middle school reviews you see the same themes emerging. Overall, this school is safe, the majority of teachers care about the students, leadership is adequate, there are tons of ways to get your student involved, academics are outstanding, the 6th grade transition is top notch, and most parents are active and supportive.

My school is awful. I've been bullied everyday and the teachers and staff do nothing about it. I only have 2 friends, both of which are in none of my classes and the opposite gender. The education quality is great, but I get bullied way too much and the administration and teachers do nothing about it. I also have a disability and because of this I'm stuck with the bullies of me who have learning disabilities. I can't wait until the end of next school year where I can get out of the hell called MRMS.

I have one child at this school, 1 in an elementary school, and 1 in the high school. My experience with the high school and elementary schools have been fantastic but the middle school has been subpar at every turn. I have a child who is academically gifted and involved in an elite training program after school. The school administration was very slow to put my child in more challenging academic classes even when the teachers and testing indicated that she needed it. The administration is extremely rude and certainly acts like the parents are idiots that are bothering them. They also are antiquated in their approach to students involved in elite activities. The principal expressed to me that he thought my child should give up her elite training and focus on academics when I asked about getting her out early for some rehearsals and performances. My child has a 95-100% average in all of her classes so I am not sure why he thinks she needs more academic focus. Seems to me, she is not challenged enough in school and I am glad she has something else going on in her life to keep her from getting bored.

Definitely disappointed in MRMS. While most of the teachers are capable and have your child's best interest at heart, there are some that truly do not and unfortunately the administration fails to see what is right in front of them. Bullying is also a huge problem and unless you can prove it, i.e. a teacher seeing it....again there is very little accountability and it continues without reprimand. The front office staff is unfriendly and they seem "bothered" when you enter. Overall, I would choose a different school for my middle schooler, unless of course, you prefer a school that cares more about social status than your child.

At Marvin Ridge, teachers are truly caring, helpful, knowledgeable and fully dedicated in teaching students and helping them mature and grow. This is a phenomenal school.

I am a 7th grader at MRMS, and I can't say I've fully enjoyed my experience. It often seems that teachers couldn't care less about me. I understand the student-teacher ratio is not a good one, but many teachers seem to do little to try and help students at all. Some teachers also give extreme amounts of homework, and I often am kept up all night on said homework. It is true, however, that there is little to no bullying at this school. However, cliques rule the school, and new kids are immediately kicked to the curb to fend for themselves. The counslers are no help whatsoever either, as if you come in for whatever reason, they quickly accuse you of doing something wrong. The principal is very distant and doesn't really interact with the kids. But what annoys me most, wishing to be a manga artist upon growing up, is that in this school, study of creative arts/he arts is shoved under the bus. You can either take band for your elective (45 minute per day class) or switch between a chinese-spainsh-art-drama-chorus. You can't do both. The curriculum only focuses on EOG test scores and nothing else, preventing learning growth. If I could, I would honestly switch to a private school.

Beautiful campus, but the majority of the staff could care less about you child. Teachers would rather give a student a zero on an assignment than communicate with the parent or student. Directions are vague and communication from teachers rarely occurs. Most teachers will not even respond to an email and students are afraid to ask questions in class for fear of being written up or yelled at in front of the class.

This school PTSO, Sports booster club, teams are run by a priveleged community. While the support to these programs seems second to none, it also is so political and not serving of the whole school community. Many kids are preselected on their parents merit or donations of time or money. Fact is we have the population to field many teams that would be competitive, but a handful of preseleted get chosen over and over. Too many cliques are an intimidating distraction. Other kids get ignored for no good reasion except their parents didnt know the right coach or live in the right neighborhood. Behavior problems and bullying is ignored and consequences are minimal. Several jock bullies who barely make the grades to pass, often are still allowed to play these sports with such poor grades. How sad is that when the school prioirty is sports over academics. If you arent the richest or the absolute best, you might want to find a community school that will be more balanced and offer your child a chance to succeed. We are cotemplating moving 10 minutes East or South to be part of a much friendlier Union County school community.

I have a daughter in this school and she is doing well in all her classes. The academics are average or above. Unfortunately the administration is below average. The front office staff is rude and not considerate to parents. There is no helpful atmosphere and the principal(Broome) and vice principal(Petus) are very protective of their working enviroment that they tend to be less than genuine in their actions. In my opinion the staff needs to be more respective to parents who are trying to help thier children and the principal needs to be more open to the parents concerns and not so isolated.

I went to Marvin Ridge for half a school year. I absolutely loved it! Every one of my teachers were very supportive and encouraging. Unlike, what another person wrote bullying is taken care of very well. I don't shop at expensive stores and i'm not a cheerleader or football player. When I was at MRMS, we had a whole anti-bullying week. There were even "bully boxes" if there was a problem. I fully recommend MRMS!!

Marvin Ridge Middle is a great school Union county public schools have good teaching I went to mecklengburg county and I lacked school I almost failed and then I moved and when to Marvin ridge middle I got the best grades and I tend to improve
