Past student here, this school.. was terrible, at least for me. I was bullied during sixth and seventh grade, and the school did nothing about it. I was hit in the head with a laptop and I don't think the person who did it got in trouble. Oh, another thing. I jokingly tapped someone's shoulder, and he returned with a punch to my shoulder. And we got the same punishment, make it make sense. Also, the principal banned laptops at lunch, preventing any student doing homework, studying, anything. Now I am not sure if it's still a thing, but it still happened.

I'll do a quick summary of each category. Keep in mind, I enrolled in the school in 2024 as a 6th grader.

Learning: The students were definitely more eager to learn last year, as the teachers gave more energy, which was reflected in the students' atmosphere. As of this year, the students' eagerness has plummeted; almost nobody in any of my classes actually pays attention during the lesson, which, just as it did last year, is reflected in the teachers' atmosphere. To summarize, last year's participation was significantly better than this year's.

Teaching: Last year, it seemed like all the teachers knew what they were teaching and exactly how to prepare it, but as of now, the teachers' curriculum is all over the place and seems like mainly just a repeat of previous years. Teachers dont want to teach because students dont want to learn.

Social-emotional support: Personally, I have been denied help because of my reputation of "not being where I'm supposed to be". But as I've seen, other kids do get the help they need, just not me.

Special Education: I cannot speak much on this topic as I am not a special ed student, but it seems like they have everything together, and the students are learning just fine.

Safety: This school is very good at managing the students to minimize any trouble being caused, and they make sure they know where their students are, to, once again, minimize trouble.

Family Engagement: I, again, cannot speak much on this topic as I am just a student, but the school offers curriculum night, which is an opportunity to see what your child is learning.

My overall experience-

Personal Experience: I cherish and love the friends I've made here and the teachers as well, but changing to traditional had to have been their worst slip-ups yet. First of all, with the number of students increasing rapidly, the school was running out of money to give locks and agendas to each student. As of now, we all have locks, but no agendas. Second, all the friends I made, I now have to part with, because they split every track up into teams. Third, this school's structure was obviously made to be a track school, so now that it's traditional, there are far too many students. I do appreciate the longer break, but it's not worth it for all of this. And switching which students go on each floor was also a bad mistake; now I will never know what it's like to have class on the 3rd floor, and it's harder to visit old teachers now.

This school is amazing, they offer counseling to all students , which I think is a great perk. MOST of my teachers have a great humor and good teaching methods ( shoutout to Mr.Bouchard) . Lots of people complain about the food , which is reasonable, but the problem for most schools is their unenjoyable lunches; but that's my opinion. Some of the buses are sometimes late for example bus 12 which arrived at i believe almost after 8am. And my friend reported to me that her bus came at past 7pm and she had to carpool, that's just outrageous. This school has a great policy against bullying, violence, etc. . I did once spot a boy with a lighter , threatening to "light him up", at the moment it seemed like I shouldn't tell anyone , because i'm not snitch, but thinking about it now I don't why I didn't. On a more positive note , the school has an excellent piece of business for special-ed, like disposing of classrooms recycling and giving teachers coffee. Now, clubs, the school seems to force kids to sign up for clubs as they give them a random club if they don't fill out the form , on the contrary , some clubs are actually fun , like baking and art but others not so much.. my friend tells me that her club ( school beautification) is really bad , and having clubs that kids blatantly don't enjoy is not favorable. Field trips are good because they are planned at the beginning of the year and are made at least a little enjoyable for all students of a certain grade. Overall: Most teachers are very kind, the structure is nice, the overall students are pretty nice and not troublesome. I would recommend this school , i've never seen anyone get bullied , there often are only 2-3 troublesome kids , its tolerable. <3

Since the new principal has taken over, RMS has gone into a very fast downward spiral. The turnover since Angela Cooper has taken over, is incredible. All three assistant principals have even left the building since she took over.

My son was in the eighth grade last year and he spent 100% of the year without a science teacher. The school had a regular substitute in there that the students loved, but had no teaching degree or any science knowledge. He has always excelled in math1 and he ended the first semester with a 40% because the school had no math teacher. A little over half way through the year, they found a replacement teacher, but sadly, he was unhappy and left the school. He raised my son’s grade up by more than 40%. He also spent a good portion of the year without a history teacher. They went through a bunch of fill in teachers and eventually found someone to close out the year. My son also had no PE teacher all year. They had various people come in and teach the class that zero experience, but often there was no teacher at all. That left one teacher to handle sometimes over 90 students by themselves.

The size of the classes are way over what would be standard. My son told me that they had to bring more desks into classes, just to accommodate the crowding. Maybe because of all the teachers leaving?

They have also eliminated elective classes for this year. Your child will have the absolute bare minimum to choose from and will have to repeat a class at some point in their 3 years there.

The school is overrun by disrespect students. There are constant fights and bad language isn’t frowned upon. The school has a zero tolerance policy on cellphones, yet there seems to be no form of discipline when they are used. No gang activity, just no discipline, so the behavior grows.

That being said… Most of the teachers there are amazing people who are just doing their best to survive. Many of them are overwhelmed by the schools issues and having to lesson plan for other classes or just having to cover classes.

RMS is a wonderful school! As a student, the curriculum is well managed and the teachers are amazing at teaching it (aka Mrs.Bunn). We are learning alot with technology because they're are smart boards in every classroom and ipads and computers are available as well. Overall, this school has it all! And its all thanks to our wonderful Mrs.Lassiter!

My two children attended RMS and both had great experiences in school and with extracurricular activities. The teachers were top notch and there were plenty of activities for them to participate in, both during and after school. The athletic programs are on the rise, with Boys' Basketball winning the division last year, volleyball going 7-1, baseball just missed the conference championship, softball only lost a few games, soccer is extremely competitive and both boys and girls track won meets.

My son has excellent teachers. I would have rated 5 stars, but I am somewhat disappointed with the decisions administrators made in hiring coaches that were both inexperienced and incompetent. Neither the football nor basketball coach had the slightest clue as to what they were doing. Not the way to begin the athletic program. It was a disservice to students who participated. I also was not pleased by the school's failure to notify parents when class schedules for the following school year were being developed. My son was placed in classes and I never saw nor signed a schedule.
