Millard South is not the best at communication. Every year there is an incident impacting the safety of the children. There are some good teachers, but there are some who do not care in the childs success, they just teach it and assign plenty of homework. Millard Souths administration is also not the best, as they focus more on punishment of children rather than supporting the child and their success.

The MSHS school community is as active as you allow it to be. Faculty is engaging with students. Teachers genuinely care about students in my experience having three children (so far) attend with two graduating (so far). Can they do better? Absolutely. Do they try to be the best they can be? Yes.

This school does not take actions about bullying, they talk big on being kind however they turn a blind eye to sexual harassment/ touching.

My son was bullied relentlessly when he went to Russell Middle School (a feeder school to Millard West). Although we attempted numerous times to get help, help never came. He ended up under the care of a psychologist as he had become suicidal as a result. During 8th grade year, it was suggested that he may be more successful if he changed schools. After much deliberation, we decided to enroll him at Millard South, vs. his home school of Millard West. Our older son went to Millard West and liked it fine. Our youngest opted to go to South. He also chose to enroll in ROTC which was a great way to make some friends and begin building confidence when he first arrived at High School. He struggled to pass classes at Russell and is an A/B student at South. He still in ROTC as he hopes to join the military after graduation, but his main priority is football, weight lifting and baseball. He has a huge circle of friends and has gone from being a bullied suicidal kid in junior high to a popular athlete in high school. We hoped to help him SURVIVE high school, we never anticipated he would THRIVE the way he has. He LOVES school and looks forward to going every day, now in his Sophomore year.
Having now put two boys through high school, one at West and one at South, I will say that I far prefer South. The kids are more down-to-earth. There seems to be less judgement surrounding money. I don't feel like I have to buy my son a brand new BMW for him to fit in! There is more diversity which I appreciate. I really struggle to understand the low rating for this school.

My children have opted into Millard South for a number of reasons including: strong AP program, diversity of student body, school administration that 100% supports student success, access to the Early College Program, UNMC alliance program, and numerous academies, competitive athletic programs, etc. My children's experience has been fantastic!

My experience at this school is horrible. Everyone bullies me, and the teachers don't help me to learn or challenge myself.

They give me packets and packets of homework and never go over the content. It is like I am teaching myself.

The teachers tell me that the color of my skin will determine my ability to be successful when I leave school. They never encourage me to challenge myself because they say that I will always fail.

I graduated from Millard South in 2011. I can confidently say that attending MSHS was one of the best choices I have made. I had the option of choosing Creighton Prep, Mount Michael, or Millard South, to be honest I was apprehensive at first to the idea of attending a public high school. However most of my friends where going to attend Millard South, so I decided to give it a try. At first It was not ideal, it took a while to get used to the layout of the school. After the first semester, everything turned for the good. The teachers are FANTASTIC, the administrative staff is AMAZING, and the extracurricular activities are the best part. Just like every school, there are students who do not involve themselves. They treat school like prison, make bad choices, and blame everyone else. The academics challenging enough for every student (From low-level to AP scholars). Teachers are willing to spend 1 on 1 time with each student in need. Advise to students: get involved, meet everyone, take nothing for granted, treat everyone with respect. I would not be as successful as I am today without the preparation that Millard South passed on to me. Thank you!
