The ASL teacher disrespected the entire class talking about how she didnt like us-I overheard when she didnt mute. Sadly bullying and especially racist students in multiple classes. Cool how this school had the ASL class option. Good math teachers, but the platform math IXL is for certain painful.

My teens are a freshman and senior in Allentown, HS. The new principal has really enhanced the school for the better. He down to earth, level headed and brilliant. The guidance department has been extremely helpful in the college process, which is overwhelming and confusing. I feel the school is properly setting our students up for the real world and college with being held accountable for their decisions but with also showing guidance.
Block scheduling gives the students more options to get their core classes done but to experience more elective courses.
Im very pleased with the school and district.

My son has attended the Allentown schools and is a junior in the High School. The district is nothing but professional, caring and intelligent. They truly care for all children no matter their level of learning, financial status or race. The teachers are always available to speak about concerns, extra help or even to let you know how well your child is doing. My family went through a terrible tragedy. The school stepped in to help us and has not forgotten about us throughout the years. Because of how wonderful the district has been to me and my family, I have turned around and volunteered my time as a thank you. The community is wonderful and so is the school district.

My son attends the HS. This school has many programs and opportunities for all students if they want to participate in them. The teachers are friendly but for the most part are strict, trying to students be responsible for their own work and attendance. Accountability is huge.
There will be times as a parent you need to be the advocate for your child but for the most part they want the student to advocate for themselves.
Very happy with the education my son is receiving

I just really have to warn future parents and students about this school. I am speaking truthfully and from the bottom of my heart, and I have attended this school myself and have also had siblings who attended this school.
If you are the typical student, free from learning differences, and are from at least a middle class household, you will probably like it here. The teachers are knowledgeable and passionate, and the quality of education is great. Its easy to make friends and there are a variety of clubs to join. Learning is taken seriously here but so is fun.
If you are the atypical student, or come from a disadvantaged household, PLEASE reconsider. Some of the administrators are evil. There has been no support for any of us at all. I had to figure everything out myself to go to college and I feel cheated out of a better education as I was made unaware that certain programs existed and I really have not had much guidance. If they dont like you, they will be cruel to you. There are students who are wealthy or have great influence who do a great deal of illicit offenses ON SCHOOL PROPERTY and they will turn the other way but if you have any type of learning difference whatsoever and cant succeed on your own they will torture you. I have friends who were denied restroom privileges or any type of after school interactive activity solely because of their slipping grades that nobody does anything about. I have friends who were in special education settings who were denied a LRE and did not learn a thing. I have friends who were bullied by administrators literally bullied name calling, talking behind the back, etc. It doesnt matter how great a school is academically if you cannot support all of your students to the best of your ability. This is all an open secret. Everyone knows it but nobody does anything to stop it. I myself was a traditional student and Ive never gotten in trouble whatsoever but even when I needed help with things nobody was there to help me. I am pleading with you, if you have a student who falls into these categories go somewhere else. This will destroy your mental health. They dont care, which is really bad given that the teachers work so hard to be supportive and loving.

I would rate it a 10+. My two older children have graduated from college. My youngest is a Junior at AHS. He is taking AP classes that fully engage his intellectual capabilities. While AHS has comprehensive learning opportunities for kids across the learning spectrum, they also have outstanding sports, Academic honor societies and many other extra curricular activities that complement the total learning experience.

Ms Embley is a competent, well experienced professional leader. She provides a great balance of leadership, compassion and appropriate discipline. These attributes bring about an environment for higher learning in a safe and nurturing setting.

Simply stated, bullying has no place in Allentown HS. It is dealt with immediately, transparently and with great efficacy. AHS, doesn't really have a bullying issue.

AHS fosters great community relationships with its administrative staff and teachers who go above and beyond everyday. As a parent, you get the feeling that the staff really takes the time to get to know their students. Great staff participation at events with a sincere desire to be there. The academics are excellent and the extracurricular opportunities are amazing.

AHS is a wonderful school in general; the academics are great, there's an extracurricular activity for everyone, the teachers do care about the students and despite people saying otherwise, the students are all friendly and accepting and bullying isn't tolerated, which is great. However, HOWEVER, the principal is actually the reason I won't give it a 5/5. Vending machines are locked during school hours, cellphones are not allowed at all (which is a problem with the copious amount of emergencies we get), security guards EVERYWHERE for no reason causing us to be late for class, etc etc. I do understand the importance of establishing rules but this is pretty much crossing the line. I actually don't think she cares about any of us and I mean, we're highschoolers now, we do deserve the freedom that the other kids our age get in different schools. We're really just the equivalent to a middle school with older people, and everybody hates it. 5/5 for the school and it's staff, 0/5 for the rules and principal. A surprising amount of people do want to transfer out solely because of that, myself included. It doesn't seem bad in words, but trust me, it feels like we're in a prison.

My daughter graduated & went on to Marist College even though her guidance counselor suggested she should apply to Centenary & William Paterson as her best hopes.... She had wonderful teachers, but not so much support with guidance counselors... My son is currently there as a sophomore and enjoys the school. Bullying is not tolerated, and the atmosphere is one of acceptance and inclusion.
However, some elitist people wrongfully bad-mouth the school, & some mindless people accept the bad-mouthing as gospel.

Student of AHS Great school, I am currently enrolled here. The teaching staff is excellent (very friendly and we'll educated, minus parts of the administrative staff such as the principal (vice principals are nice). Overall this school has been a great experience for me, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for great high school years. 5/5 for the overall school -5/5 for the principal

My daughter is currently a senior at Allentown and she has loved this school every year. Excellent teachers, and no bullying tolerated at all.
