Horrible school and horrible district
-not responsive to parents
-dismissive to student needs
- not willing to give students with special needs support services
-principal mr o’connor doesn’t return calls
-computer teacher who supplies plenty free time so she doesn’t need to support students with learning needs

It appears our child is thriving. It appears our child is being treated fairly and treated with respect and decency. It appears our child is enjoying themselves and connecting with other decent kids. But appearances can be deceiving and therefore will be on the lookout for obvious flags based on the feedbacks and reviews on this site.

Sorry. Effective leaders would support their teachers and enforce discipline. Effective leaders would listen to the concerns of a teacher and try to come up with ways to help, not push the problem back onto them with questions that hint that the teacher is at fault or otherwise acting ineffectively. Effective leaders would state a policy and mean it. Not give warnings and threaten loss of school trips or other events, and then not follow through. Effective leaders would realize where problems lie, and work with teachers to help remediate (hallway, bathroom, and lunch chaos, namely).

Teachers follow the IEP and 504 plans, attend the meetings and support the students.

Kids think it's funny to throw around the sentences "he's bullying me!" and "he's harassing me!" which as we know means the teacher needs to file a report and send the kids to guidance. However, the actual cases of bullying or harassment are not typically dealt with quickly or effectively.

I personally enjoyed the first half of my experience here. There are some wonderful staff and students in the building which make the school a nice place to work. Then I realized that teacher work loads were nowhere close to equal -- some teachers had significantly more duties than others, some teachers were denied PLC, some teachers were given preferential treatment with less classes, more preps and no duties... some administrators were helpful, and some were pretty hurtful. And so after raising concerns and trying to enact change, I realized change would not happen. So I left.

Homework is useful to extend the amount of time your brain works on internalizing a concept, and the teachers realize this. Often times students and parents will complain that they don't have time to complete the homework, citing the fact that they have six other commitments that night or that weekend. However, over committing your kid to participate in travel teams (or what have you) is not an excuse not to complete schoolwork.

I mostly agree. Being a former teacher at Beck myself, there are plenty of great educators in that building. However, there are also many teachers at Beck who are crazily unorganized, or speak to their students disrespectfully, or allow chaos in the classroom.
This is not to mention that some teachers require administrative support to squelch student misbehaviors, and are not backed up (BECAUSE many CH parents don't allow for discipline of their child). Therefore, if a teacher cannot count on the higher ups to support their disciplinary decisions - because of fear of parents - what can that teacher do?

They have a morning RAP which is meant to act as a character ed period. Many teachers do not teach the lessons they are supposed to, or they don't teach it with the right attitude to help their students get on board with the lesson. Beck was just named a national school of character last year, but what you don't know is that they suspended their top three jerks for the day the surveyors came in to see what the building atmosphere was like.

Leadership at this school is nonexistent. The staff are more concerned with their budget than providing a quality education for their students.

Absolutely not. This school is VERY divided on race and religion and if your student doesn't fall into a certain group, they will be severely bullied, often physically.

I had a horrible time with this school. My 7th grader would come home bruised from bullying, the teachers couldn't care less, and even the "advanced" classes are far below the basic standard. Many students are bussed to this school from miles away as a way for the state to close demographic gaps but our students are suffering from it.

The homework at this school is excessive and often useless. They'll have assignments like "read a book for an hour and write about it". Often its not challenging to accommodate students.

Teachers at this school are ineffectual, never communicate, They tend to be masters of sarcasm and make no attempt to build relationships with the students.

Cherry hill in general doesn’t know how to handle bullying. I was bullied by three kids. They bullied me because of my ethnicity, weight, they criticized my parents and said that I was nothing. This really hurt me and my Russian and Jewish family.

Eh mostly true. You will find jerks everywhere. There are kids bullying Russian children for their clothes and their pride in being Russian.

The staff and administration are compassionate, kind, and very knowledgable. This is an amazing place for students, in an atmosphere that promotes mindfulness in education and character among students and staff.

Beck Middle School is the BEST! I could not have asked for better teacher or more attention on my kids. Very pleased! Be PAWSITIVE!!!
