We are thrilled with our son's education. We are grateful to have found such a warm and welcoming school that also challenges our son academically. He joined MFS in 9th grade and has been exposed to so many opportunities - both in the classroom (AP, Honors, leadership roles) and within the school community (School Ambassador Volunteer, Spirit Week, Robotics/Science Olympiad, Multicultural Events). His experience with administration, teachers and peers is positive and supportive.

We are thrilled with the education our son has received since joining MFS as a 6th grader (now an 8th grader) but more than we are overjoyed with the life our son has been able to live as a community member at MFS.

Baseball, robotics, theater, the Spanish Affinity group. Aside from baseball, these are all things that our son wasn't involved with before coming to MFS. Robotics and theater were completely new...and now they are interests that he intends to stay involved with beyond school and his appreciation for them continues to grow, making him a well-rounded young man.

There are rigorous academics at some other schools, sure. But the teachers, administration, etc. have dedicated themselves to nourishing inquisitive, curious, thoughtful, student-citizens who can see the beauty in the world while contemplating its imperfection and the ways they could contribute to remedies.

MFS is a welcoming, diverse community with phenomenal parent support and teachers and administrators who care about students and seem to love what they are doing. The facilities are excellent and the special subjects offered even to the youngest students are incredible (coding for three year olds! time in the beautiful library learning about books! art and music with skilled instructors!). We live in a town with fantastic public schools that people move here for, but MFS is a step above even that (and is more diverse and welcoming!). I had a preconception that a private school might be a bit uptight and that is not at all the case at MFS.

Our son has been at Moorestown Friends School (MFS) since pre-kindergarten, and now, as a sophomore, hes thriving academically, socially, and emotionally. MFS has provided an exceptional environment for growth from day one.

The academics at MFS are outstanding. Small class sizes and dedicated teachers give students the personalized attention needed to excel. Our son has been encouraged to think critically, work independently, and collaborate effectively. The curriculum balances traditional rigor (Honors and AP options) with hands-on learning like coding, early language instruction, and wood shop. Its been incredible to see him develop into a confident learner.

The MFS community is another reason we love the school. Quaker values of integrity, respect, and equality are woven into the culture in a way that feels meaningful and authentic. These values are evident in how students, teachers, and families interact. MFS prioritizes character development as much as academic achievement.

A standout experience for our son was an intensive language trip to China, where he explored the countrys culture and history while practicing Mandarin. He visited iconic landmarks, stayed with local families, and gained a broader perspective on the world. This experience inspired him to prioritize study-abroad programs in his college search.

Beyond academics, MFS offers diverse extracurriculars and community service opportunities that build compassion and civic responsibility. Though the school doesnt have its own rowing team, they supported his passion by awarding a varsity letter for his involvement with the Moorestown Rowing Club. This flexibility and encouragement have meant a lot to him and to us.

What sets MFS apart is its focus on the whole child. The goal isnt just college prep; its nurturing thoughtful, well-rounded young adults who are confident, resilient, and kind. Our son has flourished in this environment, growing into someone whos not only academically capable but also an empathetic, well-rounded person.

We've had 2 children start in preschool, the oldest is now a college and the youngest is in high school. MFS has been a great experience for our family. The school offers many academic and extracurricular activities to help students grow in the classroom and as people. The teachers are enthusiastic and dedicated to developing their students. The academics are impressive and prepares students well for the next steps. Both of our children have learned to be independent thinkers, capable of leadership, able to communicate their ideas.

My children have been at MFS since age 3 (Preschool), and absolutely love it. We have been very happy with their educational journey, but more importantly, our children are happy and excited to go to school every day. We have deep connections with the teachers and other students and families, and appreciate the schools approach to developing the whole child.

Highly recommend! Our son, age 5, is currently in his 2nd year at MFS and we could not be happier. When he first started in PK (last year), we immediately felt welcomed by the wonderful administration/teachers/staff led by (the very approachable and involved) Head of School, Julia de la Torre. The overall school atmosphere is like something out of a fairytale. From pick up to drop off, we are greeted with smiling faces, kind students, friendly parents and an overall feeling of inclusion. Academically, we were impressed with the curriculum at the PK and K levels. In addition to his normal class schedule, our son has two special-subject areas each day; one being Coding (taught by the amazing Rachel Kaplan). All special areas are wonderful, but as I understand it, MFS is the only school in NJ to teach Coding (which is the future) at the PK and K levels. We are planning to start our younger son, age 2, into the PS program next year as he will be old enough to enroll (age 3) by September.

Moorestown Friends is an amazing school community. The teachers are dedicated, highly skilled, creative, and impressive. As a parent of two students who attend Moorestown Friends, I am eternally grateful for being a part of this incredible school family. The school offers great leadership opportunities and fosters a supportive environment where students can grow, thrive, and succeed. I am in complete admiration of the schools administration and leadership team. The level of passion to support the children and empathy to help them develop is outstanding. Our experience at Moorestown Friends School has been nothing short of amazing. Our daughter has been there for two years now and has thrived. MFS instills a sense of education, community, purpose, empathy and well-roundedness in all its students. Moorestown Friends has been a wonderful educational experience for our two children, who have enjoyed very different experiences. One child is quite strong academically and was challenged and supported and is now thriving in college. Our other child is still at the school and has become very independent and focused with his schoolwork which wasn't the case a few years ago. Both also had great athletics experiences and found it very easy to take advantage of clubs and other extracurricular opportunities Both had GREAT teachers throughout Lower School and Middle School, and this continue through Upper School where the advisor program plays a much bigger role in supporting the students.

Save your money, unless you have money but arent humbled. The bullying never gets addressed, the parents of the kids that do bait and bully are just as bad. The school does nothing about it. Some teachers were nice, some were insanely pretentious.
Seeing my daughters personality change was heart breaking. Shes in a better environment and with more like minded souls. We suffered with the bullying fir three years.
The best and the straw that broke the camels back is when certain children would tell her they dont know what its like to suffer and be someone of color. Yes, living in a nice suburban town paying 30K a year makes you look like you suffer.
Please do your research before giving them your hard earned money like I did.

My daughter began at MFS as a freshman during the fall of the first year of the pandemic (2020). Although she was disappointed to be on remote for a while, she still received a quality education. The teachers taught lessons as if the students were still in school and rigor remained in the curriculum. They weren't on a half-day schedule, but a full day schedule despite being virtual. Unquestionably, all of the teachers she has had have been great! Her current science teacher has study sessions on Zoom at night before tests to make sure that everyone understands the material (I've yet to meet any other teacher who is at school in the lab at 8 pm tutoring students for free...now that's dedication!) Even the art teacher sent home supplies so that the students could still complete the same projects that they would have if they were at school. All schools have been hard hit during the COVID-19 pandemic and most have had to scale back time in class, the number of days per week in class, and water down the curriculum to fit "the most important aspects" into the truncated amount of time that the students have in school. This is not my opinion. I speak as an administrator; this is my 25th year working in public schools. My husband and I are happy with our choice to send our daughter to MFS. They have remained dedicated to providing their students with a quality education despite the difficulties of the times in which we live.

My son attended this school from 6-12th grade, graduating in 2021. He truly loved MFS. He received an excellent education, enabling him to score in the top 1% on the SAT and gain admittance to many excellent colleges with very generous scholarships. The work load was challenging, but not overly so. On average he spent about two hours per night on homework. The teachers were supportive and encouraging. He enjoyed the classroom discussions and learned to express himself and support his opinions.

This is a small school so there are not as many students or activities as are in a large school. Nonetheless, he found a group of very close-knit friends and found many activities that interested him. He participated in sports, theater, academic clubs and social clubs. There was more than enough available to have fun, round out a resume, and develop leadership opportunities.

During COVID-19 the school basically followed the state guidelines. Our family found the pandemic response to be appropriate, although our son really missed being there in person when the state recommended at-home learning and, as a small institution, we would have preferred to see the school take a few more risks. Of course, the pandemic was a bit of no-win for the administration. Half the parents wanted classes and half the parents wanted the children to be home. We felt they did the best they could.

The only thing we would change is the college counseling program. We felt there should have been more assistance picking schools that a child would like and more help in the essay writing process. College counseling should start in earnest in Sophomore year but it really did not start until Junior year. (I should note that half of Junior and all senior year occurred during the pandemic-colleges counseling may have been more hands-on for other classes).

Deciding whether to send our child to private school was not easy (or cheap) but if we had it all to do again, we would choose MFS in a second!

Our child has just graduated from MFS and has been at the school since Kindergarten. I can say from experience that this school is a perfect choice for your family if you love being treated with contempt by school administration, if you love spending $35k a year to have NO sense of partnership with your childs school and if you love feeling a sense of helplessness in your childs education.

The new head of school has an overwhelming obsession with COVID restrictions to the absolute exclusion of all else during the pandemic.

COVID obsession aside, you can expect nothing but perfunctory updates on school activities, with no true communication between parents and school. Whatever sense of community used to exist here is long gone, replaced by a feeling of being locked outside the gates and no way to see inside.

The new administration appears to be stripping away or paring down many of the traditions that once made this school a special place to be. There was very little attempt to foster community during the pandemic, and parental attempts to fill the void were met with indifference and roadblocks. One question posed by the school was why is it necessary for students to have organized social activities? The answer seemed so obvious I was rendered speechless.

There are many excellent teachers, coaches and mentors here, but they can be overshadowed by the schools inability to hear parental concerns or any sort of criticism. I stopped trying to voice my questions or concerns as they were always met with defensiveness and essentially no interest in what I had to say.

How sad that school administrators dont value community. How sad that parents' opinions are not welcomed and not respected. How sad to end my childs 13 years at this school with such a sense of frustration, exclusion and bitterness.

My children have attended MFS through all three division (LS, MS, US). I have noticed a decline in the quality of education and a shift in focus from education to activism. The writing curriculum is significantly lacking and has led to poor outcomes on standardized testing metrics for grammar, writing mechanics, writing concepts, and skills. Specifically, the ERB testing has repeatedly places MFS students significantly below average compared to their peers. The turnover for teachers at MFS is very high and likely a result of the stifling administration. The current head of school has a micromanaging approach which discourages collaboration and leads to a very myopic approach to education. The college counseling does not begin until winter of Junior year, far into the college process, and children are often discouraged from applying to more competitive schools. They children are often told grades do not matter and the focus should be on personal growth. Unfortunately, when college application time comes along kids are often told they don't have the grades to apply to the schools they would like to attend.
The school spends a significant amount of time on Critical Race Theory, but would deny doing so. The majority of assemblies are in some way about white privilege, black victimization, equity and inclusion. Which in theory sounds noble, but many children feel they are either a victim or oppressor and this message permeates through the school creating a very divisive atmosphere. If I were to start over with my children, I would save money from the very costly tuition and place my children in a more academically focused environment that encourages individual growth as well as a cohesive environment.

My children attended MFS for many years and none of them are returning. In recent years, MFS has re-defined their values and their idea of academic rigor. Due to what seems to be an intentional lack of transparency, they keep communications on changes very vague. Sadly, it is no longer pro-student and has become increasingly joyless. The academics in Middle School and Upper School are average. Most kids who do exceptionally well either joined in ninth grade or spend their summers taking their classes at a college before taking them at MFS. If a student is struggling or wants to get ahead, they hire a tutor outside of the school. In US, it's difficult to get the AP classes and electives you choose as it's very small and in most circumstances they only have one section of each class. They focus a lot on new programs and clubs with catchy names that have little educational value and generally divide students rather than bringing them together. The school heavily pushes narrow political ideologies in most classes with no regard for how stifling or demonizing it is for a lot of students. My children found the classroom environment anxiety inducing and at times hostile. Leadership is increasingly disconnected with the students and even more so with the parents. Communication is very poor. Many times it takes 4 or 5 days for the admin or head to respond to simple questions. Their responses are often vague or condescending. Fortunately for us, we knew some families as we had been there for years. However, the school does not initiate any community building and the families who joined or Middle School or later are basically strangers. The students have small groups of friends and even though the class sizes are small, they really don't have any opportunities or encouragement to expand friendships or care about the community. Bullying is handled very inconsistently as they don't seem to have a protocol. If they do, it isn't followed and leaves a lot of kids feeling that they are treated unequally. It's a shame, but not a surprise that teacher turn over is high and students are moving onto to other schools.

Moorestown Friends Lower School has been a mixed experience for our child. After researching the core curriculum of the public schools we decided MFS would be a better fit for our academically advanced child.

The academically challenging curriculum is not across the board at the Lower School. Mathematically, the curriculum was lacking. After multiple conversations it was clear that nothing was going to change. The Lower School does not practice any differentiation with students and I found this to be particularly frustrating. I was told repeatedly that fifth grade is where things become more challenging.

If your child is right in the middle academically, MFS Lower School should be a nice fit. If you need differentiation on either side of the middle I think your experience will be similar to ours.

Outside of the mathematics curriculum our child was happy with the teachers. The "extra" teachers (music, coding, computer, science, etc) are really wonderful and I think the students are very lucky to have such diverse choices.

The community of MFS is friendly but not necessarily seeking strong friendships. Participating in pick up and drop off was helpful to get to know the parents. It was hard to schedule play dates outside of school because so many of the children have activities every day after school. We did not start with most of the children in kindergarten so there were was a group, parents and children, that was difficult to "get in" with because they had such a strong bond. Eventually our child found a few great friends. If I had the choice to make over again, I would have waited until one of the natural transitions (middle or high school) occurred so that socially it would have been easier.

Overall, our experience with the Lower School has been very mixed. We ultimately decided to leave the lower school due to frustration with the curriculum.

In my research for the Lower School I didn't find anything that talked about positive and negative sides of the Lower School so I hope this will be helpful.

MFS provides an amazing community with a unique perspective. Kids are well prepared for the challenges of any Ivy League university. They are encouraged to think independently, write clearly, and communicate with poise and confidence in any setting.

Wonderful teachers, campus and program; unfortunately I can't say the same for the students in the Middle and Upper Schools. Many of the boys constantly curse/use foul language and regularly disrupt the class and the girls are very snotty to newcomers. There are some nice students and parents but most of the parents are stuck-up, rude and self-absorbed and the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

This is an incredible school and an incredible community. I checked out many schools before sending my daughters to this one. The teachers are incredible. All have degrees from top notch institutions, with most having impressive resumes in their fields. What's more important is the love of teaching and students that these teachers display. My daughters have been going to MFS for 6 years. I have yet to meet a teacher that wasn't excellent. All faculty and administration are extremely responsive. The parents are also very involved in their children's education. More than anything else, the children feel that they are part of a community that will be with them for the rest of their lives. If you want your children to have the best possible experience throughout their formative years, choose this school.

MFS is a fantastic school and I was lucky to be a student there for many years. The education and academics are top notch truly prepare the students for college - critical thinking, writing, group work, etc. There is nothing, absolutely nothing, negative I can say about the academics at MFS. I can't even find enough superlatives that would do the school justice as in my mind it is a superior academic institution. The only problem I have with the school is that it has become a bit of a "prep school" and some of the students who attended are very snobby. I know some recent alums who had horrible experiences with bullying and cliques. Even the parents can be cliquey. I guess that's a downside to a private school. If you get a bad lot and get stuck with mean classmates, you don't have a lot of options. So, hope you get lucky with a great group of people because many people make life-long friends at MFS.
