School is filled with activities and the education options and standards are very high. The teachers are often masters or PhD holders. The athletics shine.

When I attended Eastern, I enjoyed it. I played sports and did well with my academics. It was a great community overall. The toughness with the classes definitely prepared me for college. The teachers are also great role models and approachable.

Administration is extremely inadequate and incompetent. Letting competent teachers go after 4 years of teaching, only for their own agendas. And without the courtesy of a viable reason.

Leadership at this school is a joke! Even the teachers in the school do not have much respect for the principal and have verbally said that to parents. It's sad how he could be so effective yet, he's so ineffective. My kids tell me he spends a lot of his time checking ID badges in hallways,...REALLY? How about spending time on unifying the programs?, how about the technology platforms, developing protocol for curriculum or character building?

Where?...Between the fights or overcrowded hallways? I don't see any activities that focus on building character except in extracurricular clubs.

Many teachers give homework for the sake of homework. I think it's because they don't teach in the classroom so they want the kids to learn it themselves by giving homework. My kids are up until very late doing what I call busy work.

My kids currently go to this school. It is very overcrowded. There are approximately 2300 kids, (not 2000), at this school from 3 sending towns. Many fights break out in the school with little to no supervision. Recently the school changed to a stacked schedule which rotates every 4 days. The effectiveness of this schedule is yet to be determined. We moved to Voorhees for the education and loved the lower schools. I believe the high school was great years ago and is riding on it's prior reputation but has gone down. With the amount of taxes paid you would think it would be a better school. Even the mayor and council folks don't send their kids to Eastern! That says a lot about the quality of the school. Several years ago the Voorhees school district, (which is separate from Eastern), initiated an Ipad program for all students. This was a wonderful program. With kids going into the high school there was significant concern by parents to continue the program. Under pressure, the Eastern High School District complied and all incoming freshman were issued ipads. The problem with the situation is the teachers were not trained and don't use them! Essentially they've become another electronic toy for parents to manage. In the frustration to become electronic, (in an age of digital kids), some teachers began using google docs to transmit information to students while others use Edmondo and others use Showbie. The problem is the principal or superintendent, (don't know which is worse), will not develop a protocol for technology. The poor kids search for their homework and assignments on different software platforms because there's no synergy amongst the faculty, (for those who use technology!). The rest of the teachers don't believe in technology! At Back to School night last week, I had a history teacher proudly say, I don't use technology. They got rid of my chalk board and gave me a smart board but I won't be using it. Please tell me why this teacher is still teaching??!!! It is sad, but I feel like the school is a cattle shoot to push kids through. The ones at the front of the line can get an education but Lord help you if you're in the middle or back of the pack! If you came from Philly as we did, (Stay on the PA side!) at least there are more school options.

How you rate a school depends on what other schools you are taking into comparison. If you compare EHS to other Camden County schools, it rates a 4-5. If you compare EHS to Camden County and Burlington County, then it is 3-4. The HS school reports will bear this out. Check the local papers. I gave the school a 3 for several reasons. Our kids have been out for 5-10 years, so we've been able to see how well they and some of their peers do in college, and early career. My kids were able to overcome the shortcomings of the school with regard to academics, and are doing very well. After reading the other comments, I have to agree that too many teachers at the school were below average. That was unexpected. Also, there was a lack of respect, which some call bullying. Teenage years are critical, so choose wisely. If I could do it over, I would have bought a home in Burlington County. We had many opportunities to evaluate kids at those schools, and my opinion is that Burlington County residents get more for their tax dollars.

We moved to Voorhees, as my husband got a job in the town. Before moving, our main concern was our kids education. We researched on the high school as my daughter was entering in high. We found the Eastern High School's ratings very good. Frankly, as my daughter started in the school, slowly and gradually, we came to know wonderful things about the school. I liked the idea to select your own honors subjects at the high school. If the student has capabilities, they can select honors from the very beginning. The teachers are exceptionally doing great job to encourage more and more students to work hard and move forward. Each student is given excellent support by the teachers and counselors. With regards to the extra curricular activities, school has loads of such. Even it was very last moment admission, my daughter was given all the possible options to select extra curricular activities she would like to get in. She selected "Drumline". The training for the drumline was regorous. The instructors worked very hard. As a result of the same, the school won 1st position in its level. In the end I want to say, that "East or West - Eatern High is the Best."

As an Eastern alumni and young professional I can't thank my Eastern enough for helping develop me into the person I am today. I had a great relationship with most of my teachers and appreciate the time they dedicated to my education (as well as some laughs shared during and after class). My best life example showcasing the excellence of Eastern showed itself during my freshman year of college. I found that I was much more competent than my peers at completing tasks and adhering to standard submission based standards like MLA formatting and technology/multimedia presentations (I was NOT an honor student while attending Eastern).

I was a student here and my experience at this school was not pleasant. There is a lot of bullying in this school and there needs to be more teachers in the hallways to monitor what students are doing. in addition, the school is extremely overcrowded. some teachers at eastern are not flexible in their teaching and act almost as immature as the students.
