first off, the phone rule is ABSURD. it removes our safety and is completely too strict. theres absolutely no freedom as a highschool student, which doesnt prepare for the real world. the bathroom rule is maybe even worse. 2 people out at a time is absolutely unacceptable. mind you this school has kids from 14-18, old enough to use the bathroom like normal people. including hall monitors aswell is just abusive. dont get me started on the people who work main office. they are SO mean making the highschool experience worse then it already is. also stalking our screen on the chromebook while working is giving middle school. if i choose not to do my work, that only affects me. there is no reason for a teacher to spend time looking at screen instead of grading or something important. now the guidance counselors is bad but could be worse. changing your schedule is top 3 hardest thing to do. its the most stressful aswell. treating 14-18 year olds like children isnt helping ANYONE. they care about the phones more then ANYTHING else. i get not wanting people to use their phone while the teacher is talking, but if that student doesnt listen or complete work, that is only on them and no one else. dont get me wrong there are some fantastic teachers at shawnee, but some teachers are SO mean that it makes the entire school day bad. there is more mean teachers then there is average teachers. the worse thing that comes out this school is the bullying policies. dont even worry about reporting bullying because it will get you NOWHERE. they say they care about mental health when they do NOT at all. having a wellness room doesnt solve anyones problems at all. adding in real quick the 20 minutes only for the wellness room defeats the whole purpose. 20 minutes helps NOBODY. the amount of bullies at this school is crazy, because they get no consequences for their actions at all, not even a phone call home. i highly do not recommend this school, especially if you, or ur kid, is one to get bullied because this will make it 10x worse.

All this school cares about is numbers. Student safety does not exist here and the staff( principal) only cares about pushing its bullying reputation under the rug

I have 3 children going through Shawnee. Its an excellent school! Teachers are dedicated and hard working, students are just normal kids, very few extremes. The curriculum allows for a variety of levels of rigor. I have one kiddo who needed college prep classes and my other kiddo who is headed off to college pre-med that needed AP programs. Wherever your student is at Shawnee will meet them there

While I have a few major differences with the schools policy, like their inability to teach LGBTQ+ sex education, their stance on student feedback, and their attendance policy, it is a very privileged school in comparison to schools on lower income areas. In addition to these differences, we also have a rigid administration that separates itself from the students, often leading to decisions that create a stressful environment. We have a staff full of quality educators and a school filled with opportunities. The teachers here are wonderful. I only wish that they would make a few key changes to enhance the environment of Shawnee High School.

Teachers often assign homework over religious holidays, like Yom Kippur. This leaves little time for people of that faith to practice their religion.

Although we have a good alternative learning system for those who need it, developmentally disabled students in traditional classes are often only tolerated and overlooked by the teacher. The students needs and accommodations are occasionally set aside. This is a teacher by teacher basis, of course. Most of the educators in the school are accepting of each students differences.

They keep parents out and run the school like a boot camp. My daughter lovers her teachers, but the administration is rigid and detrimental to students that don't fit their version of ideal.

Shawnee was one of the main reasons I succeeded in college, and now as a professional. Although I was not one of the best students in High School, Mediocre at best, Shawnee had prepared me for all that I was to encounter in life. I do agree that the honor students, and athletes are praised above the average students such as myself. However, there were those educators who went above and beyond for all of their students no matter what. Two of which Mrs. Lyras the German/Spanish teacher whom I had taken for 3 years. She was not only involved in every way possible, but she worked tirelessly to engage all students and to help them succeed in their goals. The other is Mrs. Serdynski. I had taken Mrs. Serdynski for Freshman Science, and throughout my four years at Shawnee, she was always the friendliest of faculty members. Even after not having me for three years, was still interested in me as a senior, and what I was doing. Thank you to both of you. You are inspirations to me in that I only want to be as passionate with my career as you two are about yours.

We just recently moved to the area and my daughter is in her first year at Shawnee. She really seems to like it. Maybe not the best, but certainly one of the better schools in the area based on the reseach I've done.
