My child was at J. Paul Taylor Academy for one year. The administration is caring and do their best to provide an inclusive environment. However, they are severely under-resourced in the area of special education, lacking in social emotional learning (SEL) and not equipped to help neurodiverse children thrive socially, emotionally and academically. They have one special education teacher who manages all caseloads for grades K-8. Note that this educator, as of the school year 2021-2022 this SPED teacher was not licensed, or rather did not meet the definition of "Highly Qualified Teacher" is currently seeking their license through the states Online Portfolio for Alternative Licensure (OPAL) program. The school recently added a social worker to their staff who is knowledgeable and kind, but lacking experience. The knowledge of drafting an Individual Education Plan (IEP) was lacking and oftentimes, critical mistakes were made and causing concern and distrust in the school's capabilities. SPED services are not implemented consistently and sessions are not logged. This school has no consistent "crisis control" strategies for children and educational assistants (EA) staff is not trained in crisis interventions. From my experience, teachers are also lacking in knowledge of working with children who are neurodiverse.

The school's okay and everything, but as a student, nasty rumors spread around real quick, which sucks cause then the whole school might acuse you of something you didn't do.
